Express Menu: Test and evaluation of premium ready meals [review]

If you read our articles regularly, you will know that an absolutely integral part of a healthyhealthy lifestyle is not only getting enough exercise, but also eating a high-quality and balanced diet. And that's what many athletes, from regular recreational gym-goers to professionals, whowho strive to keep on top of their intake of all the important micro and macronutrients, take up a huge amount of time. But industrially processed supermarket foods often have very poor ingredients and cost a lot of money. But how about the EXPRES MENU, which many of you may know from various advertisements? Is it worth buying? That's what we'll look at in this review.

At the outset, it is worth adding that this is a completely independent collaboration. In the past, we have reviewed the similar Adventure Menu, for example, which focuses more on hikers and outdoor food. But now back to today's review.

Ordering and product delivery

As part of our arranged cooperation with EXPRES MENU, we were given the opportunity to choose ten arbitrary products from the company's range. However, we did not check the ingredients beforehand or compare the products with each other so that we could remain completely objective in our subsequent review. At the same time, it is fair to say that we did not limit ourselves to typical fitness foods such as porkmeat with carrots, but we also looked at how EXPRES MENU is able to cope with typical dishes such as dill. So we chose the products and the subsequent delivery via We/Do to the chosen address was absolutely seamless. In terms of product selection and subsequent delivery, we have nothing to complain about at all. Now, however, let's take a look at the specific products we were given the opportunity to test.

What did we try?

As we mentioned in the previous paragraph, we got our hands on ten products as part of the EXPRES MENU review. Let's take a closer look at them and introduce them in terms of composition, taste and price.

Bolognese sauce with tempeh

The first product we got the chance to try was the Bolognese sauce with tempeh. What struck us about it was that it is a completely vegan product and that is a nice change for us in our relatively meat-heavy diet.

How do we rate the ingredients?

First of all, it's worth saying something about the ingredients, because the bolognese sauce really does have that. The product is free of any ethical substances and in the list of ingredients you will find sterilised tomatoes at the top of the list.tomatoes (47%), tempeh (21%), tomato paste, root vegetables, onions, rapeseed oil, salt, sugar, garlic, oregano, cumin and pepper. This is an absolutely first-class composition that is equivalent to homemade bolognese sauce. And we can't fault it.

How do we rate the taste?

Unlike, for example, various dumplings or other solid ingredients, bolognese sauce with tempeh has no heat. The bag can be simply dumped into a pan, heated for a few minutes and served on a plate. And the taste? The taste is simply fantastic. The combination of tomatoes and root vegetables works very well and we have to admit that the whole mixture is well-flavoured, so it lacks nothing. The food is not over-salted at all and the quality ingredients are of course reflected in the taste. So we have nothing to complain about this time either.

Final evaluation

We received the Bolognese sauce in a package of two servings and for 189 crowns, which this package costs at the time of writing this review, you can easily feed two diners. Even in terms of price, we have nothing to complain about. Easy preparation, first-class taste and a good price to boot. We definitely recommend this product.

Borscht

In case you are not so much into whole meals as soups, you can also choose from EXPRES MENU. We were most impressed by the borscht, which is of course a healthy snack full of meat and vegetables. And we were definitely not disappointed!

How do we rate the ingredients?

EXPRES MENU's borscht contains exactly the ingredients you would probably use if you were making this soup at home. The base is beef broth, beef front meat, tomato paste, cabbage, beetroot and pork. However, you will also find cream, rice and corn flour, root vegetables, potatoes, sugar, onion, smoked bacon, lemon, salt, paprika and bay leaf. Again, we have nothing to complain about.

How do we rate the taste?

The borscht from EXPRES MENU is simply fantastic. Although we were initially slightly apprehensive about it, all the ingredients are represented in an absolutely ideal proportion and the flavour is thus perfectly harmonious and balanced. Thanks to the cream, the soup is mild, but at the same time all the herbs and spices are still pleasantly present. If you don't have years of experience in cooking borscht, we dare say that you can't even cook as good as EXPRES MENU.

Final evaluation

Borscht is by definition not a who knows how filling dish, but you will absolutely love the taste. And the lower purchase cost is of course reflected in the price - for two servings of this soup you currently pay 109 crowns, which we consider perfect.

Beef with horseradish sauce

Beef with horseradish sauce perhaps needs no further comment. Some people love it, some people hate it. We belong to the former group, and that's why we simply couldn't resist it.

How do we rate the ingredients?

You might be thinking that beef with horseradish sauce doesn't quite fit into the fitness website's selection. But in fact, we have to rate the ingredients used here very positively - the basis is beef front and beef broth, to which cream, milk and, of course, horseradish have been added. Sugar, salt and vinegar have been used for seasoning, and the sauce is thickened with corn and rice flour and also contains butter.

How do we rate the taste?

Taste-wise, we have to say that the beef is really beautifully tender and crumbles nicely. The sauce is very well seasoned and we dare say it will not offend anyone. I'm sure there are those of you who would like to use more vinegar and horseradish, but the former is not and horseradish is better for most people to use less than more. For our part, we were again satisfied and have nothing to complain about.

Final evaluation

The beef with horseradish sauce is absolutely delicious and since it doesn't include a side dish, you can modify it to your exact preference. If you're not after the best nutritional value, you can use dumplings (homemadeor from the supermarket), but it also tastes great with boiled potatoes or rice.

Dill with eggs

If you're used to quick meals that are easy and simple to prepare, you probably avoid dill. With EXPRES MENU, however, the preparation is of course without the slightest problem and the taste is worth it again.

How do we rate the ingredients?

Milk, water, cream, sugar, rice and corn flour, butter, dill, vinegar and salt. And of course the eggs, without which it wouldn't be dill. The sauce is just like the previous product without the side dish, so it's up to you what you serve it with.

How do we rate the taste?

Dill sauce is one of those sauces that everyone makes completely differently. And while some people use more vinegar, some people prefer more sugar. We really enjoyed the dill sauce, but we have to say that it was a little sweeter on us.

Final assessment

If you like sweeter sauces, EXPRES MENU's dill sauce is perfect for you. It's a little strange that the package contains two servings but only three eggs, which of course necessitates having to split one egg between two people. As a side dish you can then use, for example, potatoes, but again it depends on you and your preferences.

MLS Carrot cake

EXPRES MENU can come in handy even in situations where you are hungry. Their MLS is available in several variants, and we were intrigued by the Carrot Cake pocket.

How do we rate the ingredients?

Although the name Carrot Cake is a bit misleading, it is actually a paste made up of carefully selected and surprisingly healthy ingredients such as fresh carrots, raisins, hazelnuts, oatmeal, lemon juice, salt and vanilla. So if you have a craving, for example, MLS will reliably satisfy it without any added sugar. We therefore rate its composition very positively.

How do we rate the taste?

When it comes to taste, MLS is indeed reminiscent of carrot cake.It is pleasantly sweet, but at the same time it tastes completely natural and all the ingredients work quite harmoniously. For us, it's a great alternative to commonly available sweets.

Final evaluation

MLS is a tasty snack with a good composition. And thanks to the fact that the pouch is 120 grams right away and is practically packed, you can take it as a great snack on a hike, for example. It's filling and you'll still enjoy it, which is the ideal combination.

Buckwheat porridge with apricots

EXPRES MENU can also serve breakfast in pouches, in addition to classic dishes, soups and desserts, where you can also choose from a variety of options. We were most impressed by the buckwheat porridge with apricots, which is a relatively simple dish even for aHowever, since we sometimes have no energy in the morning, we thought it would be a good idea to try the EXPRESS MENU.

How do we rate the ingredients?

As you may have already gotten used to after reading the reviews of all the previous products, the ingredientsthe EXPRES MENU buckwheat porridge is the same as if you were making this dish at home. Water, buckwheat, apricots, coconut milk powder, sugar and salt. These are the main ingredients you will find in this porridge. And we can't fault that at all.

How do we rate the taste?

We were really impressed with the buckwheat porridge. It is smooth and the combination of buckwheat and coconut milk tastes really great. At the same time, we must appreciate that it is not unnecessarily sweetened, so it will be with the greatest...for those of you who don't have a sweet tooth.

Final evaluation

A delicious tasting porridge that contains honest ingredients and is free of any unnecessary preservatives and other additives. One serving comes out to 79 crowns, which is not exactly low, but on the other hand you have practically packed foodfood that you can take with you, for example, to the camp or anywhere where you don't have the opportunity to cook.

Reviews and ratings of Expres Menu

Tomato sauce with beef

Another of the classic dishes that many of us have associated withis tomato sauce with beef. That's why we decided to taste it in the EXPRES MENU. And we don't regret it this time either!

How do we rate the ingredients?

The basis of a proper tomato sauce is of course beef broth, tomato paste and root vegetables. And all of these ingredients are also found in the food served by EXPRES MENU. The meat component is taken care of by the beef front, which we must appreciate is really lean and you will really enjoy it. Once again, we rate the ingredients as excellent.

How do we rate the taste?

The EXPRES MENU knows how to use first-class ingredients and, moreover, season them to perfection like professional chefs. This is especially true in the case of the tomato - even at first glance, so inconspicuous ingredients such as cinnamon give the tomato sauce a pleasant taste and you will really enjoy this dish.

Final assessment

If you're looking for a product from EXPRES MENU to try out and don't know which one to choose, reach for the tomato sauce. It tastes absolutely wonderful, the meat is tender, lean and crumbles nicely on the tongue, the sauce is seasoned to perfection and the ingredients are really honest.

Try EXPRES MENU

Pork with carrots

We will continue with the light meals at the end of our separate review, because we decided to try the pork with carrots as well. And as you are probably already used to from the reviews of previous products, this version is also without side dishes, so when you can prepare, for example, boiled potatoes or mashed potatoes, you get a great and light meal.

How do we rate the ingredients?

In terms of ingredients, we have nothing to complain about this time either. The vast majority of the product is made up of carrots and pork shoulder, and only butter, lemon, salt and pepper were used for seasoning. In addition, the product also contains rice and corn flour, so once again we can only say that we have nothing to complain about.

How do we rate the taste?

In terms of taste, the pork with carrots is also excellent. It retains good nutritional values, yet is definitely not dry, the carrots melt pleasantly on the tongue and the meat is really lean, which is the ideal combination. Again, we can only recommend it.

Final evaluation

What to say in conclusion? Perhaps only that this is another successful product from EXPRES MENU, where good ingredients meet great taste. And again we have not a single reservation.

Ratatouille

Do you feel that in our selection we reached for heavier dishes so typical of our Czech cuisine? Don't worry, in the EXPRES MENU menu you will also find such typically light dishes as ratatouille. And we can guarantee that you will enjoy it again.

How do we rate the ingredients?

As you may have noticed, we had no complaints with any of the EXPRES MENU products. However, their ratatouille is just a combination of peppers, tomatoes, eggplants, zucchini and onions in olive oil seasoned with salt, Provençal spices and pepper. This is, in short, a dish that is bound to please any lover of light dishes.

How do we rate the taste?

At first glance, there may not be much to spoil or improve on the combination of different vegetables in olive oil. However, we must once again highlight the way in which the ratatouille from EXPRES MENU is seasoned, because even such subtle ingredients as Provençal spices, salt and pepper can flavour the vegetables to perfection.

Final assessment

Of course, by definition, ratatouille isn't exactly a meal packed with a hefty serving of protein. But it's a light snack that you'll really enjoy and that tastes great on its own or as a side dish with some meat, for example. We were absolutely delighted with it and recommend it just as much as we recommend other products from EXPRES MENU.

Chicken broth

Broth is not just an ordinary soup that takes several long hours to prepare. If you like to be in the kitchen, you know that it can be used as a base for a whole range of other recipes. That's why we decided to try it out.

How do we rate the ingredients?

The only item you'll find in the ingredients of this product is chicken stock, which has been pulled for 15 hours and there is, of course, a hefty portion of root vegetables. For us, the perfect soup for the chilly autumn seasons and as a helper to save you time in the kitchen a lot of time, because it can be used as a base for various homemade soups or sauces.

How do we rate the taste?

The broth from EXPRES MENU is really honest and just strong enough. If you like weaker soups, you may need to dilute it slightly with water, but for us it tastes absolutely delicious. As with the other dishes, we have to appreciate the good seasoning and the fact that the broth is not unnecessarily over-salted.

Final evaluation

Great ingredients, honest taste and a wide range of uses. The broth from EXPRES MENU simply and simply is also worth a try.

How did we prepare EXPRES MENU?

Just as the EXPRES MENU products themselves have a wide range of uses, you can also choose a variety of ways to prepare these dishes. The easiest way, of course, is to reheat the food in hot water. You can use a water bath for this, but you can also use a kettle. If the food stays in it for around 10 minutes, it will be just right to heat up. For us, it's better to leave the bag in the water for a little longer than to risk that the meat, for example, won't be hot enough. warmed up (not for health reasons, as it is a ready-made dish, but rather for better taste). The other option is to tip the contents of the bag and reheat it depending on your options - in the microwave or perhaps on a griddle, this is quick and convenient. But if you're camping somewhere, you can also heat the food on the fire.

How do they last so long?

If you've never heard of the EXPRES MENU, you may well feel that it must be really loaded with all sorts of preservatives. But that's not true, and the food from this company, like the food from the aforementioned Adventure Menu, really is free of unnecessary ethos. That's thanks to a process called CTP - continuous thermal process - which addsthe food is cooked, then sealed in a bag and sterilised. This is followed by shock heating to a high temperature and subsequent cooling. The food will thus last up to ten years at room temperature.

Worth a try?

As you have probably gathered from this review, we have been extremely satisfied with the products from EXPRES MENU. Of course, you have to take into account that their purchase price is not always the cheapest, but it still makes sense for us to get them. For us, they will definitely play an important role in situations where, for example, you don't feel like or time to cook, or simply when you need to prepare a meal quickly. At the same time, you can keep them in the office for emergencies and then quickly prepare them in the kitchen if you have one available. In addition, they can also be used for various trips to the countryside. And due to the extremely long shelf life, you really don't have to worry about the products going out of date. So for us, they really make sense and we recommend giving them a try. The range is so wide that there's something for everyone.
