Their advantage is that they help you to supplement only those substances that you actually need. The second option is multivitamin supplements, which contain a combination of two or more vitamins together. This allows you to supplement all the substances in one product. The last group are supplements containing not only vitamins but also minerals, which are also extremely important for the human body. The risk of overdose then, of course, depends on what type of supplement you take.
Do athletes need higher doses of vitamins?
It is a widely accepted fact that athletes need to take in all nutrients in higher amounts than the general population. The reason for this is, of course, the increased physical stress and greater demands on performance. By the same token, it is not uncommon for strength athletes to eat much more than normal during the day. But what about vitamins? Is there a recommended dose of vitamins set specifically for athletes? Although it would seem logical, this is actually not the case. However, the general consensus is that even athletes should not take more than double the recommended doses of each vitamin in the long term.
There is one thing to note about excessive vitamin use. High doses in no way promote athletic performance. While it is true that a deficiency has a negative effect on performance, the opposite extreme does not work in practice. Therefore, taking excessive doses of vitamins cannot actually do anything for a person except potentially cause health problems.
Is it possible to overdose on vitamins?
In order to address the issue of vitamin overdose, we must first be clear about how vitamins are divided.
