What is NMN?

NMN stands for a substance called nicotinamide mononucleotide, which is a substance very similar to vitamin B3. In our body, NMN functions as a precursor to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+), which is found in every cellin every cell of our body and which acts as an indispensable compound for the functioning of a number of enzymes. Although this substance is relatively new in this country, in the United States it is being used across supplements, it has been around for quite a long time and, it should be noted, has been the subject of a number of controversies.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) there even officially excluded the substance from the list of legal dietary supplements at the end of 2022. However, this was not because of any significant potential harmfulness, but because NMN is currentlycurrently undergoing clinical trials as a drug and cannot be sold as a dietary supplement due to this conflict.

This research may well support the idea that NMN supplementation may be beneficial against aging. However, it should be noted that further research is needed and at this stagestage, we should not have too high expectations of NMNs.
