In the modern world, one could find a whole range of substances that have theirin Ayurveda and other traditional medicines that are finding renewed popularity. Many people today can't get enough of turmeric, guarana, brahmi or even ginseng, which we mentioned in our article on the best smartdrugs. Recently, however, shilajit has also been experiencing quite a boom. We got the chance to try this supplement from Zen for Life, and in this article we'll tell you more about it.
What is shilajit?
Let's first take a look at some basic information for those of you who haven't heard of shilajit. Sometimes you can also find it under names like mumio or mineral wax and it is a substance that has the consistency of a resin and was formed in high altitude mountainous terrain by the gradual decomposition of plants. The Tibetan Himalayas are considered to be the home of shilajit. The main reason why shilajit is so popular today is the content of a number of potentially interestingsuch as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, antioxidants, terpenes and fulvic acid. The shilajit from Zen for Life that we received for review boasts that it contains more than 80 beneficial substances.
What do the studies say about it?
Despite the fact that in some magazines you can read about shilajit as a sensation and a miracle that to solve all your ailments, there's not much research at the moment. Some studies have concluded that the substances in shilajit could slow the development of Alzheimer's disease, increase or even slow aging or increase sperm count. However, there is certainly not enough research to take a completely clear and unwavering position.
How is shilajit taken?
Shilajit is generally sold either in liquid form or in capsule form. And while, for example, Vilgain or Brainmax rely more on capsules in their supplements, Zen for life offers liquid shilajit. This is then simply scooped up with any wooden utensil (metal is not recommended). It is not recommended to use shilajit, so chopsticks can be used) and dissolve a 0.2 gram dose in lukewarm water. However, products are also made in drop form, which are then taken depending on how concentrated the product actually is.
What does shilajit taste like?
In terms of taste, we can't say that we enjoy shilajit in any major way. Given its specific content of various vitamins and minerals, it makes sense thatthat shilajit has a very atypical aroma, which may seem to resemble sulphur. Taste-wise, there is also not much to go on, but on the other hand the specific taste after a while you get used to the taste and it doesn't seem so strange anymore. If you don't want to suffer from the not-so-fantastic taste, the capsule version, which is made by Vilgain, for example, might make more sense for you.
How much does shilajit cost?
There are, of course, very different grades of quality within the shilajit products and definitely it is impossible to say how much shilajit should ideally cost. Very cheap products are offered, for example, by the aforementioned Vilgain, which in addition (on the basis of answer to the customer's question below the product) tests for heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, arsenic and mercury. This is not commonplace with many competing products - as is the case with kratom, for example, which we wrote about in a previous article. One packet of this shilajit in capsules costs about 280 crowns. Zen for Life offers its shilajit for 1,250 crowns (again, this product has been subjected to laboratory tests, according to available informationm), but of course there are other products that can cost thousands of crowns.
Does shilajit work?
In order not to construct our article only on the basis of our own experience, we decided to participate in theto share the various experiences and reviews of other people who have tried this product. On various discussion forums you can come across users who recommend it very often and can't get enough of it. Some of them, however, don't forget to include a link to the specific product they are recommending and their reviews can start to lack credibility. Some users, on the other hand, openly admit that they have no interest in the product.and if they did, they don't know if other supplements are responsible. The results are thus highly inconsistent. And the best option is probably to try shilajit for yourself and see if you notice any effect or not.
