What to replace Nutella with? We have 5 healthy alternatives!

Even the most experienced athletes, who are used to following a very strict daily diet, are often overwhelmed by cravings for sweets. A little bit of indulgence from time to time doesn't hurt anyone, but it definitely shouldn't become a habit. What to do if you have a sweet tooth but need to watch your diet? You have no choice but to look for healthier alternatives to your favourite sweets. This article will help you with that. Because today we're going to look at some healthier alternatives to Nutella that taste great but have better nutritional values.

For the purposes of this article, we have only selected porducts that taste like Nutella. Thus, we have eliminated all products containing non hazelnut nuts, as the distinctive nutty flavour is characteristic of Nutella. However, it is worth mentioning that many manufacturers offer butters made from other nutsHowever, when combined with chocolate or cocoa, they also taste absolutely delicious. Find them in our comparison of the best nut butters.

Vilgain Hazelnut Cocoa Spread

Nutritional values per 100 grams:

  • 618 kcal
  • 8.8 g protein
  • 29 g carbohydrates
  • 50 g fat

Taste-wise, Vilgain Hazelnut Cocoa Spread is absolutely perfect. It combines a distinctive nutty and cocoa flavour, which is very much reminiscent of Nutella. I would even dare to say that Vilgain Hazelnut Cocoa Spread tastes slightly better. But that is of course a matter of personal preference. Although there is nothing to fault it taste-wise, this nut butter falls a little short of the competition with its composition. It does not contain a very high proportion of nuts, which does not affect the taste, but it does mean that the rest of the composition is made up of other substances. This is also why Vilgain Hazelnut Cocoa Spread doesn't quite have the best nutritional values.

Looking at the nutritional table, you'll see that Vilgain Hazelnut Cocoa Spread contains even more calories than Nutella itself. On the other hand, it's fair to say that it also contains only 8.9g of sugar compared to the 56.3g of sugar in Nutella. Although there are healthier alternatives, it is still a preferable option compared to Nutella.

Powerlogy BIO Nougat Cream

Nutritional values per 100 grams:

  • 560 kcal
  • 12.6 g protein
  • 32 g carbohydrates
  • 43 g fat

Another great choice for all Nutella lovers is Powerlogy BIO Nougat Cream. This contains up to 60% organic hazelnuts from Italy, which give it a really fantastic taste. In addition to the nuts, it contains cane sugar, cocoa powder and cocoa mass, and all the ingredients are BIO certified. As such, there is really nothing to fault with the ingredients. The same goes for the taste itself. That being said, the butter has a very distinct nutty flavour and overall tastes like nougat. It is also worth mentioning that the butter contains pieces of hazelnuts, which give it a perfect texture. On the other hand, it is true that nut pieces may not suit everyone.

Compared to Nutella, Powerlogy BIO Nougat Cream has a much better quality formula, although both products contain the same amount of calories. Nutella, however, contains about twice the amount of sugar and, of course, considerably less protein. For more information, read our separate review of Powerlogy BIO Nougat Cream.

Conclusion

There are many products on the market that taste like Nutella, although they have a much better quality formula. While some of the butters listed above may contain more calories, the use of only high quality ingredients and low sugar content, they are ultimately healthier alternatives. However, that doesn't mean that you can eat as much of them as you like. To maintain an appropriate energy intake, you should always look at the total calorie content of a given food. The fact that some products have a better composition does not change the fact thatthat excessive consumption can cause weight gain. The old adage that too much of anything is bad for you applies here as everywhere else.
