Detailed analysis of the best supplements with chlorella
The first place in our ranking was taken by Pure Chlorella BIO from BrainMax. This is chlorella in powder form, which you can add to your favorite smoothie or even to a spread. The advantage is the premium quality and also the great value for money.
Benefits:
- High quality
- Convenient price
- Pure ingredients
- Proven manufacturer
Disadvantages:
- Some may not like the taste
About the Manufacturer:
The Czech brand BrainMax was founded with the goal of producing dietary supplements that are based on the latestlatest scientific findings while providing the natural power of nature. The company focuses on supplements that support brain function and productivity. Therefore, its range includes high-quality vitamins, minerals or even less common products such as blue light goggles. For example, the Sleep Faster sleep enhancement complex from BrainMax has proven its worth, but with additionalother products from this brand you could also meet in our list of the best pre-workouts.
Ingredients and recommended dosage:
- The product contains only pure chlorella vulgaris
In the BrainMax Pure Chlorella BIO package we find only pure chlorella vulgaris powder. This is specifically chlorella from China, which is generally considered to be the only pure chlorellaconsidered the most polluted because of the poor air quality in mainland China. However, unless we know the specific place of origin, it is difficult to estimate the pollution status of this particular product. BrainMax's chlorella has gone through a process of gentle cell wall disruption to make it digestible for the human body. The manufacturer recommends a dosage of one teaspoon per day, which is equivalent to about 4 grams of powder. Such an amount corresponds to the norm within which most chlorella use falls.
Final assessment:
Pure Chlorella BIO from BrainMax is a very high quality product, where great emphasis is placed on gentle processing. This is the most important aspect for the end customer. The origin of the chlorella may be slightly questionable, but as I wrote earlier, if we do not know the specificthe specific place where the algae was grown, it is difficult to draw any conclusions. As far as price is concerned, BrainMax's chlorella performs very well compared to the competition and comes out almost the best in terms of value for money. This is a really big plus given the high quality of the product.
BIO Chlorella from MedPharma offers the best price per pack size of all the products in our ranking. At the lowest dose limit, a 900-tablet pack will last you about half a year. But low price does not mean lower quality - quite the opposite. Chlorella from MedPharma is characterised by its high quality and very gentle processing.
Benefits:
- Convenient price
- Large package that lasts at least 2 months
- Pure ingredients
- Easy to use
Disadvantages:
- Manufacturer does not list the country of origin of chlorella
About the Manufacturer:
MedPharma is a Czech company dedicated to the development, production and sale of dietary supplements since 2000. MedPharma products aim to support human health and are characterized by their very affordable price. However, the company also offers cosmetic and medical products. Until recently, you could find MedPharma supplements mainly in pharmacies, but they are gradually appearing in the offer of sports nutrition e-shops. And what has been our experience with MedPharma products? You can find them, for example, in the comparison of the best collagens or the ranking of the best probiotics.
Ingredients and recommended dosage:
- The product contains only pure chlorella vulgaris
MedPharma has bet on chlorella in tablet form and, in my opinion at least, has done well. While you don't add the tablets to your smoothie or food, you also don't have to worry about the taste. Just wash them down quickly with water and you're done. After a while, people get tired of constantly adding powdered chlorella to everything and appreciate the ability to simply enjoy it on its own. As for the dosage, the manufacturer recommends taking 5 tablets as one dose. You can take three such doses during the day, which makes a total of 3 750 mg of chlorella.
Final evaluation:
As I wrote above, one of the main advantages of MedPharma chlorella is its price. Most products in tablet form tend to be more expensive than powdered chlorella. However, if you take only one dose (5 tablets) per day, MedPharma BIO Chlorella will cost you less than all other products in the ranking. Thus, it combines ease of use with a low price, making it without question one of the best products on the market.
Chlorella Tablets from Nutrisslim also offer very good value for money. At the same time, the entire product is processed very gently and benefits primarily from the use of quality ingredients. In this case, the manufacturer recommends a dosage of 3-10g of chlorella per day, which is quite a large range within which you can move here. However, it is generally recommended to take doses around the lower limit.
Benefits:
- Affordable price
- Quality workmanship
- Clean formulation
- Positive customer reviews
Disadvantages:
- You will have to swallow quite a few tablets when following the recommended dosage
About the Manufacturer:
Nutrisslim is originally a Slovenian company dedicated to producing the highest quality superfoods. It sources all of its ingredients directly from growers, which gives it insight into their origin and quality. The company avoids the use of artificially processed raw materials, which is why all its products are certified RAW and BIO quality. You may have already come across products from this brand in our ranking of the best collagens.
Ingredients and recommended dosage:
- The product contains only pure chlorella vulgaris
In the case of Nutrisslim Chlorella Tablets, the manufacturer recommends taking 12 to 40 tablets per day, which corresponds to an amount of between 3 and 10 grams of chlorella. However, I personally find the upper end of this range already quite high, especially considering the lack of studies examining the effects of chlorella in similar doses. For this reason, I would recommend sticking more around 3 grams, which is the amount that has been adequately researched (see information below the rankings). Not to mention that swallowing 40 tablets a day certainly doesn't sound like something pleasant. While chlorella tablets are very small and it's not a problem to swallow more at the same time, it is still a rather lengthy and annoying process.
Final assessment:
Considering the low price and high quality of workmanship, it is very hard to find any major negatives about Nutrisslim Chlorella Tablets. Again, some might argue that chlorella from China is not of high quality, but without information about the exact place of origin, it is really hard to make any kind of judgement on this aspect. Ultimately, then, we have to rate chlorella from Nutrisslim very positively.
Another product from the BrainMax brand found its place in our ranking. Pure Chlorella Tablets are sold (as the name suggests) in tablet form. Otherwise, however, it is basically an almost identical product that benefits from the primaryThe product is primarily based on very high quality processing, which makes chlorella easily digestible.
Advantages:
- Ease of use
- High-quality processing
- Pure composition
- Verified manufacturer
Disadvantages:
- Slightly higher price
Ingredients and recommended dosage:
- The product contains only pure chlorella vulgaris
If you prefer chlorella in tablet form rather than powder, you will save yourself a lot of trouble taking it. You don't have to figure out what to add chlorella to or go to the trouble of drinking it on its own. The manufacturer for this particular product recommends taking 4 tablets before meals a total of three times a day. This equates to roughly 1.8 grams of chlorella, which is a perfectly tolerable dose. I wouldn't even be opposed to a slightly higher dose, but that's up to you.
Final assessment:
Considering that BrainMax Pure Chlorella BIO got a very good rating from us, it is only logical thatIt is logical that Pure Chlorella Tablets from the same manufacturer will also earn mostly words of praise from us. The only thing in which this product lags behind its counterpart is the price. As I have written before, products in tablet form tend to be more expensive, which of course makes sense. Although chlorella holds together without the use of any additional substances, the production of tablets is simply still a bit more expensive. The customer is also undoubtedly paying for a certain convenience, as taking tablets is, after all, much more convenient.
Chlorella from GreenFood resembles a typical supplement. It is sold in classic capsules, which are no different from vitamins or minerals, for example. In terms of effectiveness, it has no effect, of course, but in terms of use it can be quite a significant positive for some.
Benefits:
- High chlorella content in one capsule
- Easy to take
- High quality processing
- Proven manufacturer
Disadvantages:
- High price
About the Manufacturer:
GreenFood is a family owned Czech company that has been in the sports nutrition market for over 25 years. It has been focused on developing quality supplements made from premium ingredients. The company prides itself on quality organic ingredients. Therefore, you would hardly find preservatives, added sugars, dyes or stabilizers in their products. This is one of the reasons why the company has earned a reputation as a reliable manufacturer. You may have come across GreenFood products in our ranking of the best l-carnitines and in our comparison of the best digestive enzymes.
Ingredients and recommended dosage:
- In one capsule you will find 350 mg of chlorella vulgaris
Chlorella from GreenFood is one of the few products in the ranking in capsule form. The downside is that unlike products in powder or tablet form, they still have to contain the capsule itself, which kind of compromises the purity of the product. Fortunately, the GreenFood brand uses plant-based hypermellose capsules, to which nothing else is added afterwards. There are therefore no stabilisers, which are often found in capsule supplements. The recommended daily dose is two capsules, which corresponds to 700 mg of chlorella.
Final assessment:
GreenFood Chlorella is a product that will definitely not disappoint you if you decide to give it a chance. The problem I see, however, is the price, which can put a lot of people off. In fact, it is quite expensive per quantity of chlorella. This is mainly due to the fact that one daily dose contains relatively little of the active ingredient. Seven hundred milligrams of chlorella is really not much and I would personally be inclined to increase the recommended dose. However, if you are primarily concerned about quality and gentle processing, you will definitely not regret it.
Chlorella Powder BIO from Purasana was next in our ranking. This is another completely pure chlorella vulgaris powder that offers countless health benefits. Its big advantage is the convenient price and the large package, which, depending on your dosage, can last you a really long time.
Benefits:
- Relatively low price
- Pure formula
- Large package
Disadvantages:
- Unpleasant taste
About the Manufacturer:
Although the Belgian brand Purasana was founded in 2010, its roots go back much further. The company's founder, Raf De Jonckheere, opened his first natural foods store back in 1977. Purasana's vision is to make people healthier and more energetic. It aims to achieve this by using 100% sustainable ingredients to make its products. Due to the high quality standards of its products, the Purasana brand has earned many certifications and trademarks.
Ingredients and recommended dosage:
- The product contains only pure chlorella vulgaris
The manufacturer recommends taking 3 heaped teaspoons of chlorella every day, which is supposed to be equivalent to 11 grams. This dosage seems quite excessive to me, but of course I'm not saying that it can't suit some people. But if you are taking chlorella for the first time, definitely don't take the whole dose at first. For example, start at one teaspoon (ideally divided into thirds throughout the day) and gradually increase the dose. It is also worth noting the origin of chlorella, which is said to be from Mongolia or China, specifically from the island of Hainan. Either way, these are areas where air pollution is certainly not at a high level. This is, of course, a very good thing in terms of growing chlorella, because otherwise it could be polluted with heavy metals.
Final assessment:
Purasana Chlorella Powder BIO represents, from my point of view, a very high quality product that I would not be afraid to recommend to basically anyone regardless of their price preferences. The only thing I would have some reservations about is the recommended daily dose, which I have commented on before. If you dose chlorella in normal amounts (around 3 grams) one packet will last you quite a long time. However, if you follow the recommended dosage, you'll have to restock after about 18 days and the whole thing gets really expensive.
The Viridian brand produces some of the highest quality and purest supplements on the market. Viridian Chlorella Organic certainly doesn't give the brand a bad name and ranks among the top products we've come across. Unfortunately, though, it does have one major drawback, which is also typical of Viridian. In fact, in terms of the amount of active ingredient, it is the most expensive product in the ranking.
Pros:
- First-class quality
- Proven manufacturer
- Easy dosing
Disadvantages:
- Very high price
About the Manufacturer:
British company Viridian Nutrition specializes in the production of so-called ethical vitamins. All products of this brand are 100% bioactive and do not contain genetically modified substances. In addition, they are kept in plant-based capsules without the use of any additives. The company prides itself on the purity of its products, environmental friendliness and helping charity. It uses only recycled materials and in the UK they even buy back used packaging from customers for a small fee. You may have already come across the Viridian brand in our ranking of the best antioxidants or our comparison of the best B vitamins.
Ingredients and recommended dosage:
- In one capsule you will find 400 mg of chlorella vulgaris
All Viridian brand capsules are of plant origin, which is a particularly big plus in this case. Otherwise, it would be much harder to compete with other products that only contain pure chlorella. In terms of composition, the only shortcoming I see is that the manufacturer does not indicate which country the chlorella it uses comes from. As for the recommended daily dose, it ranges from 400 mg to 1200 mg. Again, I would recommend sticking somewhere in between 1 to 3 grams of chlorella per day, so I would lean more towards the higher limit that the manufacturer recommends.
Final assessment:
If you prefer products in capsule form, Viridian Chlorella Organic is a great choice. With this manufacturer, you can be sure that any product has undergone very gentle processing and that it is of premium quality. Unfortunately, you will have to pay extra for it, and quite a bit. In the ratio of the amount of chlorella in one package to the price, it comes out the worst of all the products in the ranking. So it is definitely not the best choice for someone who doesn't like to spend too much on supplements.
Chlorella from the Revix range of MaxxWin supplements will also please anyone who prefers products in capsule form. Similar to Viridian or GreenFood, MaxxWin also relies on a vegetable capsule, which makes the product suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
Benefits:
- Easy dosing
- Clean formula without unnecessary additives
- Vegetable capsule
Disadvantages:
- Slightly higher price
About the Manufacturer:
Although it's not obvious from the name, Revix is not actually a brand name, just a line of dietary supplements produced by the MaxxWin brand. This Czech manufacturer of sports supplements has been on the market since 2011 and is characterized by itsThe company is particularly proud of the fact that it manufactures all its products in the Czech Republic. Revix is a line of products focused on health, beauty and quality of life. In addition to chlorella, it includes omega 3 fatty acids, barley, various oatmeal and so on. You may have already come across the MaxxWin brand in our comparison of the best B vitamins or in our ranking of the best l-carnitines.
Ingredients and recommended dosage:
- In one capsule you will find 500 mg of chlorella vulgaris
Revix Chlorella does not contain any unnecessary additives in addition to the vegetable capsule, which is of course a big plus. The capsule itself is also suitable for vegans, so the whole product is basically no different from chlorella powder in terms of suitability for anyone. The manufacturer has set four capsules as the recommended daily dose, which corresponds to 2 grams of chlorella. This is quite an ideal amount and I have no doubt that it will suit virtually everyone. If not, it is of course very easy to reduce or increase the dosage.
Final assessment:
Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not specify the country from which the chlorella it uses comes from, which This is a shame, because the country of origin can often give a lot of clues about the quality of the product. Price-wise, Revix Chlorella is somewhere in the average range. It's not the most expensive, but it's certainly not the cheapest either. It's a typical example of a product that won't offend you, but truth be told, it won't particularly excite you either. But it definitely works reliably and if you decide to invest in it, you won't regret it.
The Ekolife Natura brand is far from being one of the best known producers of sports products in the Czech Republic.supplements, but its Algae Chlorella Organic is one of the best chlorella supplements on the market. It is sold in tablet form, with each tablet containing 500 mg of the active ingredient.
Benefits:
- Contains no added substances
- Easy dosing
- Quality processing
Disadvantages:
- Slightly higher price
About the Manufacturer:
The Slovenian brand Ekolife Natura is primarily engaged in the sale of liposomal vitamins and similar products. Behind the brand are two sisters who want to help people achieve a healthier lifestyle with their products. Since they are both mothers, they make their products so that they can give them to their children with peace of mind. It is therefore clear that all of Ekolife Natura's products are made from premium ingredients.
Ingredients and recommended dosage:
- The product contains only pure chlorella vulgaris
Ekolife Natura Algae Chlorella Organic tablets do not contain anything in addition to chlorella vulgaris. The absolute purity of the product is a big plus, without which it would not even have a chance to compete. The recommended dose of 6 tablets corresponds to 3 grams of chlorella. So there is nothing to complain about in this respect. However, I would again point out that if you are taking chlorella for the first time, start with smaller doses and gradually increase them.
Final assessment:
Chlorella from Ekolife Natura is a very high quality product that you definitely won't go wrong with. As with many other products, the manufacturer does not indicate the country of origin of the chlorella, which is a bit of a shame. A slight disadvantage may be the price, which is not exactly the lowest, but still within reasonable limits. So if you don't mind that this is a lesser known manufacturer, there is no reason why we can't recommend this product.
Finally, we have Chlorella from VitaHarmony, which also comes in tablet form. In VitaHarmony supplements there are some dyes that we do not consider to be the most suitable. In this particular case, however, we did not find anything similar in the composition, because, as with all previous products, it is only pure Chlorella vulgaris without any additives.
Advantages:
- Quality composition
- Easy dosing
- Contains no additives
Disadvantages:
- Slightly higher price
About the Manufacturer:
The roots of the Czech brand VitaHarmony go back to one of the oldest (if not the oldest) purely Czech multivitamin. VitaHarmony started on the market just a few years after the thirty-ingredient multivitamin CentralVita saw the light of day in 1991. The brand was able to establish itself mainly thanks to the inspiration of supplements sold in the USA and it was definitely helped by the cooperation with a local company. You may have come across VitaHarmony products, for example, in our ranking of the best antioxidants or in our comparison of the best B vitamins.
Ingredients and recommended dosage:
- The product contains only pure chlorella vulgaris
VitaHarmony's recommended dosage information for chlorella says that 3-6 tablets should be taken 1-2 times a day. In practice, this can mean three to twelve tablets, which is equivalent to 1.5 grams to 6 grams of chlorella. As I have written several times with previous products, it is advisable to take about 3 grams of chlorella per day. Especially if you have no experience with this algae, it is a good idea not to go for higher doses at first. Over time, of course, you can increase them according to your needs.
Final assessment:
In terms of price, VitaHarmony Chlorella is in the average range. The same can basically be said about its composition and overall quality. It is definitely a reliable product that will give you all the benefits associated with chlorella, no matterbut I can't say that there isn't a better quality option out there.

What is chlorella?
If you've heard of chlorella in the past, you've probably guessed that it's some kind of seaweed. However, this is not entirely true because unlike other common algae, chlorella is only freshwater. It is therefore a type of unicellular freshwater algae native to Taiwan and Japan. In fact, however, Germany is now also one of the world's largest producers. Chlorella is very easy to grow because it can survive in almost any conditions. This is particularly true of the species Chlorella vulgaris, which is the most widely used commercially. Cultivation takes place mostly in open ponds, but there are other and usually more expensive methods.
Chlorella contains a large number of important nutrients
Although it may seem that ordinary green algae does not have much in it, this is not true. In fact, the list of substances that chlorella contains is really impressive. First of all, it contains all 9 essential amino acids, as it is a great source of protein, which makes up 50-60% of the algae. It is also rich in iron and chlorophyll. Both of these substances are important for the formation of haemoglobin, the red blood pigment that ensures the transport of oxygen. Chlorella also contains B vitamins, vitamin C, omega 3 fatty acids, fibre and the unique growth factor CGF (Chlorella Growth Factor). This is responsible for its extremely rapid growth and supports the growth of lactobacilli in the human intestines. Its impressive nutritional spectrum is the reason why chlorella is often referred to as a superfood.
What health benefits does chlorella offer?
Due to its high content of health-promoting nutrients, it is clear that chlorella has a lot to offer in terms of health benefits. Chlorella is often used for its amazing detoxifying effects. Scientific studies suggest that it helps to eliminate heavy metals from the body that can be potentially harmful. Humans are exposed to heavy metals in polluted environments and they primarily threaten the liver, kidneys and brain. Chlorella also supports the immune system. As a result, it helps prevent disease and strengthens the overall health of the body. Speaking of chlorella's positive effects on health, we must not forget its powerful antioxidant effects. This is mainly due to its high content of vitamin C, beta-carotene and chlorophyll.
Last but not least, chlorella acts as an important prevention against high blood pressure, which further translates into the overall health of the cardiovascular system. We could go on for a long time in listing the positive health effects of chlorella, but I believe thatyou've already got a good idea of how useful this freshwater algae can be.
Chlorella is actually indigestible
This information may be somewhat confusing, but it is indeed true. The cell wall of chlorella is composed of cellulose, which is indigestible to humans. To achieve all the desired effects, it is therefore necessary to disrupt this cell wall. There are several ways to do this, but the most common is to break or crush the cell wall using special technologies.
Chlorella and spirulina: what are the main differences?
In addition to chlorella, other similar organisms have also received much attention. For example, spirulina, which many people confuse chlorella with, is often mentioned. However, there are several differences that distinguish them. First and foremost, spirulina is not an algae, but it is an algae that is found in both fresh and salt water. Chlorella and spirulina differ primarily in the substances they contain. While the former is a powerful antioxidant and detoxifier, spirulina is used moree for strengthening and nourishing the human body, as it contains more protein and vitamin B12. However, it should be noted that both organisms have a lot to offer the human body and are definitely worth including in the diet.
What country is the best chlorella from?
As I wrote above, chlorella is most commonly grown in East Asia. When choosing chlorella, it pays to pay attention to which country it comes from. According to tests carried out, the best quality chlorella comes from Taiwan, while the most polluted comes from China. This is because the air quality is very poor in the world's most populous country. Despite the high quality of chlorella from Taiwan, you will not usually see it sold in products because it is too expensive.
How to take chlorella? We have some tips for you
The big disadvantage of chlorella is its unpleasant taste. Pure seaweed cannot even be expected to taste pleasant. Fortunately, there are many ways you can incorporate chlorella into your dietyour diet without having to beat yourself up every day because of the unpleasant taste. The first option, of course, is to use supplements in tablet or capsule form. These can simply be swallowed and you don't have to worry about the taste at all. But if you prefer chlorella in powder form, you'll have to get a little creative.
Probably the best way to prepare chlorella is to add it to a fruit smoothie. In it, the taste of chlorella will easily disappear and be overpowered by the fruit of your choice. There is also the option of adding chlorella to a spread, soup or other similar dish. If you want to experience the full flavour of nature, you can simply add chlorella to water and drink it on its own.
