Ionic drinks are a phenomenon that every athlete has encountered in some form. A lot of people believe that an ionic drink will help them to cope better with training or, for example, an endurance race. Is this really the case? Detailed comparison of ionic drinks
Our ranking of the best ionic drinks is opened by Iontex Forte from Extrifit. What attracted us? First of all, because it contains a wide range of minerals and vitamins. You can dilute the concentrated mixture according to your own needs and make either a hypotonic or isotonic drink.
Benefits:
- Wide spectrum of minerals and vitamins
- Contains taurine for maximum stimulation
- Can be diluted to suit your own needs
Disadvantages:
- High price
Who makes it:
The Extrifit brand is an absolute staple on the Czech sports supplement market, and you've certainly come across it before. The idea behind the brand is to produce products that are made for athletes who don't take training lightly. The manufacturer itself states that its products are not for everyone, but only for those who are hard on themselves and demand maximum results from their body. This speaks volumes about the quality of their products. With Extrifit you will not go wrong.
- 150 mg of magnesium citrate
- 400 mg of potassium citrate
- 80 mg of vitamin C
- 500 mg taurine
Each dose of Iontex Forte contains a really rich load of vitamins and minerals. The great advantage is the form in which the minerals are contained. The citrate is very good for the body and at the same time has an energizing which is of course very beneficial before or during training. As far as vitamins are concerned, we meet here mainly B vitamins, but there are also vitamins C and E. The taurine, which the manufacturer has definitely spared no expense, will take care of a good soak. In the end, we rate the composition as one.
Final evaluation:
Iontex Forte from Extrifit is a really good ionic concentrate, which serves great either as a hypotonic or isotonic drink. It offers a variety of minerals and vitamins that need to be replenished during a hard workout. As for the price, we have to temper our praise a bit. But it is understandable that a product of similar quality will cost relatively a lot compared to other products. The important thing is that Iontex Forte is really worth paying extra for.
The Super Intra product from Kulturistika.com also earned an excellent position in our ranking. Right at the beginning, it is dry to say that Super Intra is not a classic ionic drink, but more precisely it is a so-called intra workout.
Benefits:
- High quality and sophisticated formula
- One pack lasts up to 30 workouts
- Perfect blood circulation and kick during the workout
Disadvantages:
- High price
Who makes it:
Bodybuilding.com is an interet sports nutrition store, but it also offers its own quality supplements. While the range is still not as wide as it tends to be with the leading manufacturers, new products are gradually being added. Their advantage is usually a relatively low price and high quality ingredients. You could see them in our comparison of the best stimulant-free pre-workouts or in our review of Joint Protect joint nutrition.
In one serving (51 grams) you will find:
- 24 000 mg of Cluster Dextrin
- 5,000 mg Citrulline Malate
- 5,000 mg L-Glutamine
- 1 000 mg sodium chloride
- 500 mg potassium citrate
- and much more
The main advantage of Super Intra is its really sophisticated formula. The manufacturer has not skimped on quality ingredients in this case and this is reflected in how the product works. We must especially appreciate the presence of cyclic dextrin instead of the classic maltodextrin, as this is a top form of carbohydrate source for really hard training athletes. At the same time, we find citrulline malate or beetroot extract to promote blood circulation, shA wide spectrum of amino acids and a high content of minerals that are excreted in sweat during training. Thanks to its sophisticated formula, Super Intra is guaranteed to give you a kick and significantly boost your performance during training.
Final assessment:
Super Intra is not a classic ion tracker, but if you are looking for a quality supplement that will kick you up a notch during your workout. You've just found your favourite. Its only drawback is the aforementioned high price, but that's due to the quality ingredients, which the manufacturer obviously didn't skimp on at all. We think this approach is very sympathetic, because thanks to it you can be sure that every penny you spend on the supplement will be reflected in how the product works. Super Intra is therefore more suitable for advanced athletes who can squeeze the most out of it.
The next place was taken by Performance Electrolyte Complex from BrainMax. It contains a total of 12 amino acids and a good dose of minerals. The good position in our ranking is mainly due to its very high quality and complex composition.
Benefits:
- Contains essential and limit amino acids
- High-quality composition
- Helps kick-start your workout
Disadvantages:
- High price
Who makes it:
Behind the creation of the BrainMax brand is the desire to make dietary supplements that combine the latest scientific findings with the natural power of nature. As the name implies, BrainMax products focus primarily on improving brain function and increasing productivity. Therefore, in the repertoire of this brand you will mainly find various vitamins and minerals, but you can also come across their anti-blue light glasses, for example.
- 9.4 grams of amino acids
- 225.7 mg of potassium
- 131.5 mg of calcium
- 11.3 mg magnesium
Performance Electrolyte Complex relies primarily on a high amino acid content. These are of course very beneficial during strenuous exercise, but they are not enough on their own. That's why we can also find a good dose of minerals, led by potassium, calcium and magnesium. The prebiotic inulin and steviol glycosides have been used to sweeten it.
Final assessment:
BrainMax has once again produced a product that will appeal to a large number of customers. It combines the content of very beneficial amino acids and minerals, which you will definitely welcome during a hard workout. The only negative is again the price, which in this case is really quite high. For a lot of money, however, Performance Electrolyte Complex will give you a lot of music.
Prom-IN's Supreme Iont Drink came in next. We were particularly impressed by its high mineral content and a decent dose of B vitamins. The end customer will certainly be interested in the fact that one package of this product contains up to 120 doses of hypotonic drink. Therefore, in the calculation of the price per one dose, it comes out very favourably indeed.
Advantages:
- Wide spectrum of minerals
- Up to 120 doses per pack
- Great price
Who makes it:
The Prom-IN brand certainly needs no introduction. It has built a reputation on the Czech market for being a very high quality supplement manufacturer that can be relied on. Prom-IN offers supplements of all kinds - from proteins, to BCAAs and minerals, to protein porridge. The company's flagship product is the legendary CFM Evolution protein, which has been garnering positive reviews like a treadmill.
- 25 mg of potassium
- 22.5 mg of magnesium
- 42 mg taurine
- 6 mg of vitamin B5
A good dose of minerals and vitamins is not to be missed in any proper ion drink. Supreme Ion Drink certainly doesn't let that shame it and continues the trend that is characteristic of Prom-IN. The individual ingredients are contained in the most usable form (e.g. Magnesium in the form of citrate) to give each athlete the maximum possible effect. Moreover, the syrup is really very concentrated, so you can take a whopping 120 doses, which is something you just don't see.
Final assessment:
An ionizer that will cost you only a few crowns per dose and yet provide you with all the necessary substances in first-class quality. This is how we could simply describe Supreme Ion Drink from Prom-IN. Personally, I really have nothing to complain about here. The ingredients are top notch and you don't even have to dig deep into your pocket to buy it. The combination of great quality and very low price will definitely attract a large number of customers and we cannot but highly recommend it.
Iontex Liquid from Extrifit was the next best ionic drink in our ranking. Similarly to Iontex Forte from the same manufacturer, it impressed us especially with its wide range of minerals and vitamins. However, it is a cheaper and at the same time somewhat weaker variant of this product.
Advantages:
- Wide spectrum of minerals and vitamins
- Convenient price
- One pack will last you up to 100 doses
Disadvantages:
- Weaker version of Extrifit's Iontex Forte
Who makes it:
The Extrifit brand is an absolute staple on the Czech sports supplement market, and you've certainly come across it before. The idea behind the brand is to produce products that are made for athletes who don't take training lightly. The manufacturer itself states that its products are not for everyone, but only for those who are hard on themselves and demand maximum results from their body. This speaks volumes about the quality of their products. With Extrifit you will not go wrong.
- 120 mg of sodium
- 60 mg of magnesium
- 10 mg of vitamin B3
- 50 mg of vitamin C
Iontex Liquid has a very similar composition to its stronger brother Iontex Forte. The difference between them lies mainly in the amount in which the individual substances are contained, and also in the consistency of both products. While Iontex forte is a powder concentrate, Iontex Liquid is a concentrated syrup. While there are fewer active ingredients in this case, it is still a very high quality product that deserves a very good rating.
Final assessment:
If you are intrigued by Iontex Forte but are not happy spending so much money on an ionic drink, try Iontex Liquid. For a much lower price, you get a very high quality product that can very easily compete with other ionic drinks on the market. You don't have to worry that the difference in quality between the two products is somehow staggering. The average athlete probably won't even know the difference. Ultimately, then, there is nothing to recommend it to anyone looking for quality at a relatively low price.
Next up is the Multi Hypotonic Drink from BioTechUSA. The great advantage of this product is its great taste. However, the emphasis must be placed on the quality of the ingredients, which is not a problem in this case. We are dealing here with a proven combination of minerals and vitamins, which again works absolutely great.
Advantages:
- Quality composition
- Relatively few calories
- Pack contains up to 100 doses
Disadvantages:
- Contains the potentially harmful substance acesulfame K
Who makes it:
Probably no one would picture a company from Hungary supplying sports supplements throughout Europe under the name BioTechUSA. But Ferenc Lévai, the company's founder, thought it would be advantageous to replace the original name JLM Power Line with something more appealing for marketing purposes. The BioTechUSA brand has since undergone a major evolution and is now one of the largest suppliers of supplements in Europe. We have to say that we are also very satisfied with their products - we recently took a look at the hydrolysate from this company, for example, and it definitely did not disappoint us.
- 63.8 mg of potassium
- 50 mg of taurine
- 25 mg magnesium
- 3.6 mg of vitamin B3
When it comes to ingredients, Multi Hypotonic Drink performs very well. You'll find all the important minerals, a generous dose of vitamins and taurine for a proper kick. The problem is the sweetener acesulfame K, which has a rather high harmfulness score. In small amounts, it is not a problem, but in general these sweetenerswe're happy to avoid them if other manufacturers can make products without them. Instead, we would welcome, for example, a higher content of sucralose, which also works very well as a sweetener, but is still considered much safer. Apart from this small inconvenience, however, we have nothing to criticise.
Final assessment:
The price/quality ratio is absolutely crucial when choosing sports supplements. No one wants to spend too much money on a product that doesn't really work at all. Multi Hypotonic Drink from BioTechUSA offers really decent quality at a very affordable price. So, of course, we have no choice but to highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a quality ionic drink but doesn't want to spend too much money on it. And don't forget that one bottle of this ionic drink will last you up to 100 doses.
The second half of our ranking is opened by Isotec Endurance from Scitec Nutrition. Why does it deserve your attention? Because it contains really high doses of vitamins C and E, potassium, magnesium and phosphorus. Thanks to this, it very effectively ensures the balance of electrolytes in the body and helps to dampen the feeling of fatigue and exhaustion.
Benefits:
- High content of vitamins C and E
- High quality and effective formula
- Ideal for long and demanding workouts
Disadvantages:
- Contains relatively few minerals
Who makes it:
Scitec Nutrition is one of the top sports nutrition companies in Europe. It is especially famous for its proteins, which it sells in record quantities. For this reason, it tests its whey proteins extensively to ensure the highest possible quality of its products to the end customer. But it doesn't stop with proteins - the company also offers BCAAs, minerals, vitamins, burners or pre-workouts.
- 442 mg of phosphorus
- 200 mg of potassium
- 200 mg of vitamin C
- 90 mg of magnesium
When it comes to the substances that Isotec Endurance contains, we can't avoid praise. All of them are extremely useful and beneficial for the body. The problem is that there could definitely be more of them. It's hard to compete with products containing a wide range of active substances with an ionic that contains only 3 minerals and 2 vitamins. This is definitely something to consider when making a purchase.
Final assessment:
Isotec Endurance is a very hilarious product, but it has two beauty flaws that cannot be easily overlooked. The first is the aforementioned lack of variety in the ingredients and the second is the fairly high price. It can't be compared to the products at the top of our ranking, but compared to such an ionizer from Prom-IN, for example, it's really a lot. At the same time, I'm not quite sure if such a price can be justified by the superior quality of the ingredients. Therefore, it depends on you whether you are looking for a product with a varied composition or with a really high content of selected substances.
Next in line are Powertabs from Isostar. With this product, you can often chop in sportswear stores and similar outlets. That's probably why it is quite popular and a large number of people have experience with it. How has it stood up to other ionisers on the market? It didn't do badly at all.
Pros:
- Easy dosing
- Practical packaging
- Contains the most important minerals
Disadvantages:
- High price
Who makes it:
Isostar's first beverages were based on a revolutionary preparation process that used, among other thingsused as a way to ensure adequate hydration for children in developing areas suffering from water shortages. Since 1977, the company has been producing products designed specifically for athletes, and today Isostar is the leading sports nutrition manufacturer in Europe. A huge advantage of this brand is the easy availability of their products, which can be easily purchased in supermarkets or even drugstores.
- 90 mg of potassium
- 86.4 mg of calcium
- 49.92 mg of vitamin C
- 37.44 mg magnesium
Isostar Powertabs target a very broad group of people and their composition corresponds to this. In this respect, it really can't compete effectively with the products at the top of our rankings. The active ingredients are not exactly the most numerous in terms of number or quantity. This is not to say that the composition as such is bad or inadequate. For the target clientele, i.e. leisure athletes of all kinds, it will work perfectly well. But if you have two hours in the gym ahead of you, where heavy workouts await youeps and other demanding exercises, you'll need a more effective product.
Final assessment:
If you want to test the effect an ionic drink will have on your workout, Powertabs from Isostar will serve you well. There are five doses in the pack, so even if they don't suit you, you won't have to store a huge pack of the supplement at home that you won't use anyway. Plus, you'll come across them at almost every turn, so you can buy them along with your next day's meal at your nearest supermarket. But if you want a really good quality supplement that offers you the maximum possible the maximum effect, give one of the products at the top of our list a chance. It's worth noting the high price at which Isostar Powertabs are sold - you'll only find one more expensive product in the entire ranking.
We'll stay with Isostar for a while. The very next product is Hydrate & Perform from the same manufacturer. And unlike Powertabs, which in our ranking attack the position of the most expensive ion exchange product ever, Hydrate & Perform is the cheapest one.
Pros:
- Great price
- High calcium and vitamin C content
Disadvantages:
- Low amount of active ingredients
Who makes it:
Isostar's first beverages were based on a revolutionary preparation process that used, among other thingsused as a way to ensure adequate hydration for children in developing areas suffering from water shortages. Since 1977, the company has been producing products designed specifically for athletes and today Isostar is the leading sports nutrition manufacturer in Europe. A huge advantage of this brand is the easy availability of their products, which can be easily purchased in supermarkets or even drugstores.
- 40 mg of vitamin C
- 160 mg of calcium
- 62 mg of magnesium
- 0.58 mg of vitamin B1
The low price is of course reflected in the ingredients. The vitamins and minerals listed above are in fact the complete list of active ingredients that Hydrate & Perform contains. It should be noted that even the form of the individual minerals is not ideal. Does this mean that this ionic drink is completely useless? Absolutely not. It will do its job and if you don't have excessive expectations from it, you won't be disappointed.
Final assessment:
Basically the same thing applies to Hydrate & Perform as it does to Powertabs. If you want to try it out to see if it works for you, give it a try. It won't cost you much money and one pack only contains 10 doses. After a lighter workout it will be plenty, but for some more demanding workouts it won't be the right nut to crack. If you're looking for a really good quality ionic that will give you all the minerals you needyou'll be better suited to one of the products at the top of our rankings.
Our ranking of the best ionic drinks wouldn't be complete if we didn't include Amix's Champion Sports Fuel. Its composition differs quite a bit from the other products. In addition to magnesium and taurine, we can find here, for example, beta-alanine or L-citrulline.
Benefits:
- Convenient price
- Magnesium in the form of citrate
- Contains performance-enhancing dimethylglycine
Disadvantages:
- Low mineral content
Who makes it:
The Amix™Nutrition brand is owned by LargeLife® Limited, a large British company. Amix is a long-standing fixture in the European sports nutrition supplements market. The company prides itself on the quality of its products, which are manufactured using the latest technology. The company's management considers the key to its success to be the constant monitoring of current trends, to which it then adapts its products.
- 6 mg of magnesium
- 30 mg of dimethylglycine
- 10 mg beta-alanine
- 10 mg L-citrulline malate
You won't find the typical list of vitamins and minerals that are characteristic of most ionics here. Champoon Sports Fuel contains mainly performance-enhancing substances. In particular, taurine and dimethylglycine are found here in large quantities. Both substances help to energize the body and boost overall performance. This is of course not a bad thing, but we would still warmly welcome some additional minerals in the composition.
Final assessment:
ChampiON Sports Fuel from Amix is a pretty original product in terms of a product that will certainly not offend you with anything. However, it is not the classic ion drink that most people automatically think of. If you are looking for something original that will give you a good pre-workout boost, you will probably be satisfied. But if you want to bet on a typical ion drink with a proven formula, you'll have to look for another product. However, Amix's very competitive price also plays into their hands, and it's a real bargain compared to the competition.
Our ranking of the best ionic drinks is rounded off by PEScience's Alphamine. With its composition, it significantly deviates from what we are used to with classic ion drinks. Alphamine acts primarily as a great source of energy before training, which can really kick in.
Benefits:
- Great pre-workout kick
- High caffeine content
Disadvantages:
- Quite high price
Who makes it:
PEScience is one of the world's leading manufacturers of sports supplements. The company strives to build its products on premium quality and unique taste. Behind the manufacturing process are, among other things, a number of scientists researching modern findings and studies, which they then use to create new supplements. So if you're looking for the ideal combination of science and research with practice and tasty supplements, PEScience is the right choice for you.
- L-Leucine
- L-Carnitine
- L-theanine
- 125 mg of caffeine
Instead of the typical mineral and vitamin content, Alphamine contains mainly performance-enhancing substances. One of them is caffeine, which probably needs no introduction. L-theanine acts synergistically with caffeine, which results, among other things, in its gradual and gradual onset. It is also worth mentioning the presence of L-leucine, which is primarily contained in BCAA supplements.
Final assessment:
Alphamine by PEScience is not one of the classic ionics we are used to. Its composition, like Champion Sports Fuel, is quite different from the others. But it can really kick it up a notch and that's definitely useful before a workout. Honestly, though, I think the average athlete will get a lot more out of a classic ionic, which can also be found for a much lower price.
What's an ion exchange?
The concept of an ionic drink is probably not unfamiliar to anyone. But what to imagine under it? In the shops we can see shelves full of colourful drinks reminiscent of an advertisement for the perfect rainbow. Most of them promise improved athletic performance, faster recovery, quick energy replenishment and who knows what else. Thanks to great marketing, one quickly gets the feeling that one's workout simply can't be done without an ion drink. But the reality is that ionic drinks are not a magic elixir that will magically boost your performance. As a rule, they are flavored water rich in minerals and carbohydrates. Its purpose is to hydrate and replenish the body with minerals and sugars as much as possible.
Ionic drinks are very popular especially in the USA, where products from brands like Gatorade and Powerade are a must-have for every athlete. Right off the bat, it's good to say that ionic drinks are popular in large part really due to marketing. This is not to say that they are not beneficial or that they have nothing to offer, but in most cases they function more like a placebo. The garish colours and specially shaped bottles give the impression that the ionic is somethingsomething special to help a person achieve peak performance. What is it really like? There are some situations in which it really pays to drink ionic liquid. But to be able to use it to its full potential, we must first categorize ionic drinks according to their content. Each type is suitable in a different situation.

What types of ionic drinks are there?
Ionics are divided based on the tonicity or osmolality of the beverage. This value, in simple terms, indicates the concentration of minerals contained in the drink. The absorption of all substances is then determined by this, which is of course also related to the time of day at which it is appropriate to drink the beverage.
Hypotonic drinks
Hypotonic drinks have the lowest osmolality. This means that they have a lower density than body fluids. For this reason, they are very well absorbed and serve primarily as an effective way of hydrating the body. However, the low osmolality means that they are relatively poor in minerals. Therefore, hypotonic drinks are particularly suitable for aerobic activities where you need toThe body needs to be hydrated and the demands on mineral replenishment are not too great.
Isotonic drinks
The most commonly used drinks are isotonic drinks, which have an osmolality corresponding to the values of body fluids. Their absorption is therefore still relatively fast, but at the same time they are richer in minerals. They are suitable for carbohydrate replenishment and hydration during hard training when one sweats profusely. Since they are a "happy medium", you will probably encounter them most often in practice, although they are far from suitable for every workout.
Hypertonic drinks
Hypertonic drinks have the highest osmolality. Their density greatly exceeds that of body fluids and therefore their absorption is quite slow. Because of their density, they do not serve to hydrate the body, but primarily to replenish missing minerals and muscle glycogen. However, one must be quite careful with their use. Their excessive consumption can lead to disturbance of the internal electrolyte balance. They should be drunk only after training, as they could overload the digestion during sports performance. They are used after really hard workouts during which there has been a significant loss of minerals.
What should a proper ion exchange contain?
It is clear that an ionic drink cannot do without ions in the first place. What are ions? They are the name given to minerals with a positive or negative electrical charge. The most important are those minerals that the body excretes in large quantities through sweat. In ions, therefore, we find mainly sodium, magnesium, chlorine, potassium, andcalcium, but also, for example, phosphorus or trace amounts of iron. The amount of these depends primarily on the type of ionic drink in question. It is therefore important to know what kind of training you are going to do when choosing it.
In addition to replenishing minerals, ion drinks serve primarily as a great source of hydration and carbohydrates. The hydration is taken care of by the water itself, which is the basis of every ionic drink. The replenishment of sugars is usually provided by a high glucose, fructose and/or sucrose content. Last but not least, ion drinks may contain other additives. Most of the time these are vitamins, especially the B's, but very often they can also be amino acids. Therefore, it really pays to study the ingredients thoroughly before buying an ionic drink. It can vary greatly from one product to another.

How and when to use the ionic drink?
Not every workout necessarily requires a snack in the form of an ionic drink. It all depends on how long and hard you train and how much you sweat. It is through sweating that the body loses a large amount of minerals, which subsequently need to be replenished. However, this does not mean that as soon as you sweat out the first drop, you have to go and drink an ion drink immediately. On the contrary. During an average moderate workout at the gym, the body doesn't flush out enough minerals to need to be replenished in this way. Drinking water, which hydrates the body sufficiently, and eating a meal will suffice. A suitable option is a hypotonic drink, which is rather low in minerals but very effective in helping to hydrate the body.
A typical case where an ion drink really pays off is long endurance training. The classic case is cycling or running lasting at least 2 hours. The same goes for some team sports that involve long-duration movement without major breaks. In the gym, ionics should come into play during long and really hard workouts. This is very individual, but everyone should be able to put their hand on their heart and be able to evaluate their training objectively. Long and hard training in this case means at least 2 hours of high intensity. But this can vary to some extent in summer for example. Training in high temperatures leads to much more sweating and this in turn affects the need to replenish minerals.
Does the ionic drink have any negatives?
Ionic drinks are of course perfectly safe within reason and you have nothing to worry about when using them. The only problem is the high content of simple carbohydrates, which is certainly not unusual in the case of ionic drinks. While this may be desirable in some cases, it may not always be the case. If you're just trying to reduce your weight and lower your energy intake, an ionic drink can very easily throw a wrench in the works. It is therefore never worth overdoing it with ionic drinks either.
