Detailed analysis of the best zincs
The first place in our ranking of the best zinc supplements was taken by 100% Zinc Bisglycinate from Prom-IN. What earned this product its position? It combines an extremely low price with a very high content of the active form of zinc, making it the obvious choice for the vast majority of athletes. In addition, it is a proven product that is praised by countless satisfied customers in addition to us.
Benefits:
- Highly effective form of zinc
- Great price
- High content of the active ingredient
- The package will last you up to 4 months
- Easy to swallow
Disadvantages:
- We found nothing
About the manufacturer:
If you've never encountered the Prom-IN brand, it's as if you haven't exercised. In the Czech market of sports supplements, this manufacturer is one of the absolute stalwarts. Prom-IN products are famous for their high quality and often prove that you can get a lot of music for little money. The offer of this company is really wide. Prom-IN produces really everything - from proteins to joint nutrition and probiotics. What has been our experience with Prom-IN products? You can read our reviews of the legendary CFM Evolution protein or Serious PRE pre-workout.
In one serving (1 capsule) you will find:
- 50 mg of zinc bisglycinate
- 10 mg of which is pure zinc
- 5 mg of black pepper extract
Each capsule of Prom-in 100% Zinc Bisglycinate contains a rather generous dose of zinc bisglycinate enriched with black pepper extract. Its role is clear. The alkaloid piperine contained in it promotes the absorption of zinc and thus enhances its effect. The zinc itself is contained here in the highly usable form of bisglycinate. This is a so-called chelate bond in which zinc is bound to two molecules of the amino acid glycine. In terms of absorption, this is a very effective solution, which is also found in most competitors. We must also highlight the high zinc content - 50 mg of bisglycinate contains about 10 mg of pure zinc, which in combination with zinc bringsThe combination of zinc ingested in a normal diet is sufficient for even the most demanding athlete.
Final evaluation:
As far as the composition is concerned, we really have nothing to criticize here. If we really wanted to find something at any price, we could argue that some competing products contain, for example, copper or other minerals that are often deficient due to zinc supplementation. In truth, however, I don't think such a thing is fair to the manufacturer, given the overall quality and affordability of this product. Prom-in 100% Zinc Bisglycinate is in fact the cheapest product in the ranking (in terms ofper daily dose) and also contains almost the most active ingredients. This makes it a truly premium dietary supplement that we can definitely recommend to anyone thinking about zinc supplementation.
When it comes to the best zinc, we can't leave out a supplement called Exlusive Triple Zinc and Copper, made by Golden Nature. Although it is not a well-known company, you will find a number of interesting products like this one in its repertoire. The unique combination of bisglycinate, gluconate and zinc citrate will effectively take care of and supplement the daily dose of this indispensable element and moreover at a great price.
Benefits:
- A great combination of three types of zinc
- In addition, it also contains copper
- Safely covers the recommended daily dose
- The package lasts up to 100 days
- Good value for money
Disadvantages:
- We found nothing
About the Manufacturer:
Golden Nature is a Czech brand focusing on high quality nutritional supplements with quality ingredients without unnecessary additives or fillers. In the repertoire of this manufacturer you will find a variety of different supplements ranging from various adaptogens and antioxidants to high quality vitamins and minerals. On our website you can read, for example, a review of Triple Zinc or a review of a similarly great supplement called Triple Magnesium.
In one dose (1 capsule) you will find:
- 30 mg of Zinc Bisglycinate
- of which 9 mg elemental zinc
- 30 mg of zinc citrate
- of which 9,3 mg elemental zinc
- 90 mg zinc gluconate
- of which 11,7 mg elemental zinc
- 3.7 mg copper bisglycinate
- of which 1 mg elemental copper
So from one single capsule, you'll amply cover the recommended daily allowance of both zinc and copper, which we think is great. At the same time, in addition to the active ingredients in the product, you will only find a vegetable capsule and rice flour as a filler. There is simply nothing to complain about such a composition and Triple Zinc and Copper undoubtedly deserves to be in our ranking among the TOP products on the market.
Final assessment:
A great supplement that is available at a nice price and has a formula that perhaps no other product in this category can match. If you are thinking about zinc supplementation, we can only recommend Golden Nature Exclusive Triple Zinc and Copper.
Zinc Bisglycinate from the Big Zone brand also received a very good rating from us. Like the zinc from Prom-IN, Zinc Bisglycinate contains a really rich dose of zinc bisglycinate at a very affordable price. Its big advantage is also that one packet of this supplement will last you for a wholech 300 days, which is by far the most of any product in this ranking.
Benefits:
- High active ingredient content
- Very affordable price
- Up to 300 daily doses
- Well-usable form of zinc
Disadvantages:
- Unnecessary need to halve tablets
About the Manufacturer:
Germany is known for the quality of its products, and the Big Zone brand of sports supplements is no exception. To ensure the highest possible quality, Big Zone regularly inspects each batch of its products. Its popularity is growing more and more on the Czech market and it is not surprising at all. Big Zone products are also known for their exceptional taste, which has found a large number of fans among athletes. We at MyFitnessio have also had a very good experience with Big Zone supplements. In the past we have shared with you our impressions of Big Zone Protein Juice or Bigzone G.D.A.
In one dose (1/2 tablet) you will find:
- 125 mg of zinc bisglycinate
- 25 mg of which is pure zinc
If you're looking for quality zinc in really high amounts, Zinc Bisglycinate is right for you. You won't find a product with a higher zinc content in the entire ranking. This will be especially appreciated by people suffering from a severe deficiency of this trace element who do not get enough of it from their regular diet. In terms of composition, again, there is nothing to criticize, but I can not forgive myself for a small comment on the dosage. The need to halve each tablet is, in my opinion, quite an annoying little detail, which I personally find quite annoying after some time. It's really a small thing that doesn't affect the overall quality of the product, but I would have appreciated a package with 300 smaller tablets.
Final assessment:
If you don't mind the detail in the form of halving the tablets, you'll be extremely satisfied with this supplement. In addition to the high content of the active ingredient, it also stands out for its extremely low price, which is always a big plus. Once again, I must remind you that one pack of Zink Bisglycinate lasts for a whopping 300 days, which is really perfect. Ultimately, there's really no point in saying anything more. After all, quality supplements sell themselves.
Next we have Balanced Zinc Complex from Viridian. This also contains zinc in a chelate bond, but it is not the traditional bisglycinate, but the less traditional zinc picolinate. As is customary with Viridian products, the complete formula is purely plant-based (including the capsule).
Benefits:
- A highly usable form of zinc
- Also contains copper and a mixture of carotenoids
- High active ingredient content
- Premium herbal composition
Disadvantages:
- High price
About the Manufacturer:
The British company Viridian Nutrition is a manufacturer of so-called ethical vitamins. All of the company's products are 100% bioactive, preserved in plant-based capsules and contain no genetically engineered substances. The company's supplements do not contain any unnecessary fillers or chemical dyes. Viridian prides itself on the purity of its products, environmental friendliness and helping charity. That is why 5% of all their earnings go to charitable causes. They only use recycled packaging and in the UK they even buy back used packaging from customers for a small fee. You may have come across Viridian products in our comparison of the best digestive enzymes or our ranking of the best nootropics.
In one serving (3 capsules) you will find:
- 45 mg of zinc picolinate
- of which about 9 mg of pure zinc
- 3 mg of copper
- 2.7 mg of carotenoids
Viridian has chosen a somewhat unconventional form of zinc in their product - picolinate. This is zinc in a chelate bond, so like bisglycinate, it is very well utilized by the human body. In addition, there is copper, which is often deficient as a result of zinc supplementation. We must also appreciate the presence of carotenoids, powerful antioxidants and also provitamins of vitamin A. As is usual with Viridian, you will not find any unnecessary fillers and other ballast substances. In addition to the above mentioned substances, there is only a vegetable capsule based on spirulina, alfalfa and bilberry. Viridian also prides itself on sourcing all of its ingredients from small farmers.
Final assessment:
Balanced Zinc Complex is a typical supplement from the Viridian brand. It has a truly high-quality and extremely pure composition, offering itsThe product has a very high quality and high quality zinc content, but at the same time it costs a lot compared to the competition. The price is its biggest disadvantage. If you decided to dose less than 3 tablets per day, the price per daily dose would be reduced, but the dose of zinc you would take would also be reduced. However, the manufacturer itself recommends a dosage of 1-3 tablets per day, so even this option is possible. Personally, I think that fans of this brand are willing to pay extra for the high quality and extremely pure composition. So if you don't mind spending a little more money on zinc, Viridian can offer you a really excellent product.
Zinc Complex from BrainMax is a premium supplement that contains copper, selenium and organic turmeric in addition to generous amounts of zinc bisglycinate. Thanks to this synergistic combination, Zinc Complex offers the perfect effect and therefore could not be missing in our ranking at any price.
Benefits:
- High dose of zinc
- Contains copper, selenium and organic turmeric
- All the ingredients are in an extremely accessible form
- Premium quality
Disadvantages:
- Higher price
About the Manufacturer:
Behind the creation of the BrainMax brand is the desire to produce dietary supplements that combine the latest scientific knowledge with the natural power of nature. As the name implies, BrainMax products focus primarily on supporting brain function and increasing productivity. Therefore, in the repertoire of this brand you will find mainly various vitamins and minerals, but you can also come across their anti-blue light glasses, for example. How satisfied are we with BrainMax supplements? Don't miss our reviews of BrainMax Energy Magnesium and BrainMax 2.1 Neurohacker.
In one dose (1 capsule) you will find:
- 15 mg of pure zinc (in the form of bisglycinate)
- 1 mg of pure copper (in the form of citrate)
- 100 µg of pure selenium (in the form of methionine)
- 490 mg of organic turmeric
Zinc Complex contains a very effective combination of zinc with other trace elements. Zinc supplementation often causes copper deficiency, so its presence here is very welcome. Moreover, it is contained in the form of citrate, which is very well utilized. Selenium methionine also has good bioavailability, which enhances zinc's ability to fight oxidative stress. We must not forget turmeric, which acts as an effective antioxidant.
Final assessment:
BrainMax is known for its ability to incorporate a large number of useful substances into its products and create very effective supplements. Zinc Complex is no exception. Although the price per packet is slightly higher than the average among competing productsit is still set very low considering the overall quality and quantity of the ingredients. If you're looking for a truly high quality and reliable dietary supplement with zinc, Zinc Complex is made just for you.
Zinc chelate from GreenFood, like all previous products, contains a really generous dose of zinc in a very usable form. It is again the traditional zinc bisglycinate. Apart from this, no other minerals or other substances can be found in the vegetable capsule. Like all other GreenFood products, zinc chelate is also suitable for vegans.
Benefits:
- Suitable for vegans
- High dose of zinc
- A highly usable form of zinc
- Affordable price
Disadvantages:
- We would appreciate the presence of, for example, copper or iron
About the manufacturer:
"Quality, not quantity, that's our benchmark" GreenFood's motto says it all. This Czech company, which has been on the market for over 25 years, focuses on producing food and sports supplements of the highest quality. All production takes place in the Czech Republic to ensure the highest possible quality of each product. All products of this brand are also suitable for vegans. You may have come across GreenFood dietary supplements in our ranking of the best probiotics or in our comparison of the best collagens.
In one serving (1 capsule) you will find:
- 50 mg of zinc bisglycinate
- 10 mg of which is pure zinc
There is probably no point in going on and on about all the possible benefits and great uses of zinc bisglycinate. But I must emphasize its quantity - Zinc Chelate from GreenFood contains up to 50 mg, which is the same amount as Zinc Bisglycinate, which is ranked first. In addition to the high content of the active ingredient, the herbal capsule is also interesting about the composition. Thanks to it, the whole product is also suitable for vegans, which is a very welcome detail nowadays that can be a deciding factor for many people.
Final assessment:
The combination of quality and low price is always a great competitive advantage. In this respect, GreenFood has managed to combine a really rich amount of zinc in a very usable form together with a nice price. It is not the cheapest product in our ranking, but its price still falls in the lower category. After taking all factors into consideration, we have no choice but to but to rate this product very positively and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good dose of zinc.
If you want to supplement with zinc, but you're also struggling with other minerals, Reflex's Zinc Matrix is here for you. In addition to zinc bisglycinate, it also contains magnesium, vitamin B6, copper and boron. This combination provides a great synergy, making Zinc Matrix an extremely effective supplement. But of course, the presence of other substances also means a higher price.
Benefits:
- Contains extra magnesium, vitamin B6, copper and boron
- Very high quality processing
- The minerals are contained in a highly absorbable form
- Proven manufacturer
Disadvantages:
- Higher price
About the Manufacturer:
Reflex is behind some of the highest quality supplements on the market. For example, such Reflex Nexgen PRO is the absolute top among multivitamins and the gainer One Stop Xtreme is also worth a try. Since its inception in 1996, the company has prided itself on the premium quality of its products. Therefore, it invests a considerable amount of its finances in research and subjects all its products to independent quality tests. What is also impressive is that Reflex uses only electricity from renewable sources and recycles all the plastic waste generated during production.
In one serving (4 capsules) you will find:
- 30 mg of zinc bisglycinate
- 6 mg of which is pure zinc
- 375 mg magnesium (magnesium citrate + magnesium bisglycinate)
- 10.5 mg of vitamin B6
- 1 mg copper
- 1 mg boron
Zinc Matrix has a truly interesting and complex composition, which makes it significantly different from most competing products. These are minerals (trace elements) that complement zinc very well (magnesium) and that are often deficient as a result of zinc supplementation (copper). The important thing is that, apart from boron, all the substances contained are in a well utilisable form. The only problem is the presence of sodium tetraborate (also known as borax), which is potentially toxic and its presence in any dietary supplement is certainly not something for which the manufacturer should be commended.
Final assessment:
Unsurprisingly, Zinc Matrix earns a very good grade from us. Traditionally, the biggest negative of Reflex products is their price. You simply have to pay extra for quality, but it's worth it. It is true, however, that the aforementioned presence of borax makes me rather disappointed, because it is the quality of the Reflex ingredients that is the strongest point. That's also why Zinc Matrix didn't rank higher, even though it would have deserved it otherwise. All in all, however, it is still a very high quality product, but some of its shortcomings are not to be turned a blind eye to.
Advantages:
- Good value for money
- High-quality form of zinc
- High quality workmanship
- One capsule contains relatively little zinc
About the manufacturer:
Extrifit is one of the largest manufacturers of sports supplements in the country. If you love heavy workouts in the gym, you've definitely come across this brand in the past. Extrifit makes its products to suit the hardest working athletes who who go all out in their workouts and have really high demands on their bodies. The composition of all Extrifit products is therefore fine-tuned to the last detail. Examples include the Agrezz pre-workout or the Thermogel burner.
In one dose (2 capsules) you will find:
- 20 mg of zinc bisglycinate
- 4 mg of which is pure zinc
Zinc Chelate contains no added minerals or other substances. You will simply find here only a high quality form of zinc in quite a decent amount. The manufacturer lists 1 to 2 capsules per day as the recommended dose. However, I honestly think that dosing only one capsule is not an ideal solution.although it would give you one packet for the aforementioned 100 days. One capsule contains only 10 mg of zinc bisglycinate, which is not too much. Of course, the need to supplement zinc depends primarily on your diet and training (see the supplementarythe supplemental text below the rankings), but 2 mg of pure zinc will actually be insufficient for most athletes.
Final assessment:
At a dosage of 2 capsules per day, Extrifit's Zinc Chelate is a very good product that will definitely help you solve your zinc deficiency problem. The price comes out very well despite the higher dosage and the value for money remains great as well. The positive reactions of other customers, among other things, testify to the quality of this product. In the end, therefore, our evaluation is clear and we clearly recommend Extrifit Zinc Chelate.
For athletes looking for quality zinc at the lowest possible price, Zinc Chelated Fair Power from Survival is a great choice. When the recommended dosage is followed, it is almost the cheapest of all the products in the ranking. Plus, one pack will last you up to 100 days, so you won't have to buy it again in a while.
Benefits:
- Very good price
- High-quality form of zinc
- Pack lasts up to 100 days
Disadvantages:
- We would have liked a higher zinc content
About the Manufacturer:
The Survival Nutrition Supplements brand has been in the sports nutrition market since 2002. Originally, this Czech company focused on supplements exclusively for endurance and strength endurance sports, but over time it began to focus on strength sports as well. It currently operates in five European countries and is still developing. Survival prides itself primarily on openness about information and the quality of its products. You may have already come across the brand's products in our rankings of the best digestive enzymes or omega 3 fatty acids.
In one serving (1 tablet) you will find:
- 10 mg of zinc bisglycinate
- 2 mg of which is pure zinc
In terms of ingredients, there is not much to comment on with this product. We find here the classic zinc bisglycinate without any other added substances. Its quantity is not very large, but for someone who takes enough zinc in the normal diet, it is sufficient.
Final assessment:
The biggest advantage of Zinc Chelated Fair Power by Survival is undoubtedly the affordability. However, low price does not automatically mean low quality. If you don't want to spend too much money on zinc and are looking for a product that will last a long time, Zinc Chelated Fair Power will be a great choice for you.
A somewhat unconventional form of zinc is contained in the Zinc Caps product from Life Extension. It does not contain bisglycinate, but a patented form of OptiZinc in combination with zinc citrate. Both forms are excellently bioavailable, so they work more than well.
Benefits:
- Affordable price
- Pack lasts up to 150 days
- High quality form of zinc
Disadvantages:
- Relatively low zinc content
About the Manufacturer:
Life Extension Europe is the healthy lifestyle company behind the Life Extension brand. All its products are aimed at one goal - to improve the lifestyle of as many people as possible. This makes it clear that all its products go through a very strict inspection process to meet the highest standards. What has been our experience with this brand? You can find out in our review of Life Extension Enhanced Super Digestive Enzymes with Probiotics or in our ranking of the best collagens.
In one dose (1 capsule) you will find:
- 15 mg of zinc (OptiZinc + zinc citrate)
What is OptiZinc? It is zinc in the form of monomethionine. This form is very useful, but supplements containing large amounts of methionine have some safety concerns according to EFSA. However, the manufacturer does not state in what proportion OptiZinc and zinc citrate are contained in the product. It is therefore difficult to judge how this translates into reality. As for zinc citrate, this is also known for its good usability and is therefore a reliable form of zinc.
Final assessment:
Zinc Caps from Life Extension will surely be appreciated by anyone who wants to try a supplement with a form of zinc other than bisglycinate for some reason. Price-wise, it is well affordable and one pack will last you a long 150 days. Although you can find better products on the market, it is still a very high quality supplement that will surely find its fans.
What is zinc and why is it deficient?
Zinc is often mentioned together with magnesium because both minerals are often very deficient in the human body. However, when talking about zinc in the context of its presence in the human body, it is more accurate to refer to it as a trace element. Zinc is an essential mineral, so our body cannot make it on its own. For this reason, it is very important to get enough of it, but this is not always easy. Athletes in particular often have a problem with insufficient zinc intake. The reason for this is that zinc is excreted in large quantities in sweat. And athletes in particular sweat much more than the general population. The inability of our bodies to make zinc on their own, combined with the excretion of large amounts of zinc, means that it is estimated that up to 20% of the population worldwide is zinc deficient.
Positive effects of zinc on the human body
Why is zinc so important for us and why does it make sense to bother with it at all? I often see that people tend to worry more about magnesium deficiency and kind of forget about zinc. That's a big mistake. Zinc is present in more than 300 biochemical processes in our body, and therefore its role in the human body is quite irreplaceable. So what are the main health benefits of zinc?
Supporting the immune system
Zinc is a surprisingly effective helper in the fight against the common cold, but this property is not much talked about. Overall immunity is closely linked to zinc sufficiency, so it's definitely not something to take lightly. Likewise, zinc is known for its positive benefits on wound healing and the prevention of inflammation.
Antioxidant effect
Zinc is also known for its antioxidant effect. What does this mean? An antioxidant is a substance that prevents cellular stress, stabilizes cell membranes and fights free radicals. Such an effect has significant positive effects on overall health, as free radicals are behind the development of many diseases.
Hormonal balance
In many places you may come across the claim that zinc increases testosterone levels, but this is not entirely true. However, it can be said that zinc does indeed optimize hormone levels, especially in terms of the amount of catabolic and anabolic hormones. Zinc is also closely linked to sperm production. This is evidenced by the fact that men excrete more zinc during ejaculation than they do during the day through sweating. For women, zinc is crucial in the formation of eggs and is also closely related to the proper course of the menstrual cycle.
Other positive effects of zinc on the body
In addition to the above, zinc is a key mineral for balancing insulin levels in the blood. It also supports the proper functioning of the thyroid gland, prevents cravings for sweets, promotes skin regeneration, heart and blood vessel health, preventsnutrient absorption, ensures proper growth during adolescence, promotes better wound healing and much more.
What if I'm zinc deficient?
Now that we've seen the positive effects of zinc on our bodies, it's time to look at the other side of the coin. What happens when a person is zinc deficient? Simply put, we could say that you will experience the opposite of everything described above. Zinc deficiency manifests itself in headaches, impaired immunity, increased incidence of inflammation and acne, decreasedreduced sexual activity, men may suffer from a lack of semen, while women may experience problems with their menstrual cycle. Other possible symptoms include diarrhoea, thinning hair, fatigue, depression and mental discomfort or dry skin, for example. The manifestations of zinc deficiency are of course very individual, but they are not to be taken lightly. It should be noted that if you are suffering from any of the above symptoms for a long time, you should contact your doctor and consult your problems with him.
Who is most susceptible to zinc deficiency?
In addition to athletes, people who limit their diet in some way are susceptible to zinc deficiency. Typical examples are vegetarians or vegans, as zinc is abundant in beef, for example. Elderly people or pregnant women should also consider zinc supplementation. The same goes for basically anyone who is under stress for any reason for a long time. People who have a problem with excessive alcohol consumption or who suffer from diabetes or other similar illnesses are also often deficient in zinc.
What foods can I find zinc in?
The ideal scenario is one in which you can get all the zinc you need from your regular diet. But this is not so easy, especially if you play sports frequently and have higher demands on your body. In this case, it is advisable to consider zinc supplementation through dietary supplements. Even so, it is still worth knowing which foods contain zinc in larger quantities. The best source of zinc is oysters. However, it is probably not very realistic to indulge in them every day in our area. So include beef, liver, beans, cashew nuts, pumpkin seeds or mushrooms in your diet. You can't go wrong with eggs, lamb or dairy products either. But if you really want to make sure you're getting enough zinc, reach for a dietary supplement.
How much zinc per day should a person take?
Determining the ideal amount of zinc you should take in a day is certainly not easy. In fact, the required dose varies depending on many factors, the main ones being your gender, your age, the composition of your diet and whether and how often you do sports. In general, however, the recommended daily dose of zinc ranges from 8 to 12 mg, withwomen should be at the lower end of this spectrum, while men should be at the upper end. However, if you are a frequent athlete, a higher dose (15-30 mg) may be more appropriate for you. If you supplement zinc with supplements, you should always follow the manufacturer's recommendations anyway.
What form of zinc is best?
Zinc, like magnesium, can occur in many forms, not all of which are suitable for supplementation. In good quality supplements, you will most often find zinc in the form of bisglycinate, which is highly usable. In this form, zinc is bound to two glycine molecules and is therefore a so-called chelate bond. Another example of a chelate bond is picolinate, which, although not as widespread, can be found in products such as Viridian Balanced Zinc Complex. We must not forget zinc citrate (the zinc salt of citric acid), which is also known for its great usefulness. On the other hand, you should avoid zinc in the form of oxide, which is characterized by very poor utilization and is mainly found in cheaper products.
If you look at the composition of zinc supplements, you can seethat they contain much higher doses of zinc than the recommended daily allowance. In this case, you need to distinguish pure zinc from compounds such as zinc bisglycinate and the like. Pure zinc makes up about 20% of this compound. So if a food supplement contains, for example, 50 mg of zinc bisglycinate, it actually contains about 10 mg of pure zinc.
