Detailed comparison of energy drinks

How we rate the ingredients
We dare to say that the best energy drink on the market is without a doubt the 3D Energy drink, which contains just 15 calories and 200mg of caffeine in one can, which and you can choose from five flavours, which are all really well-crafted. For example, the orange variant tastes like a less sweet Fanta.
Conclusion
As with Nocco, perhaps the only criticism we can make is that you can forget about any availability in the supermarket. And also the price, because the that you pay for one can is really quite a high price.
Nevertheless, I recommend 3D Drink because you will enjoy it and it will also really refresh and invigorate you.

How we rate the ingredients
7 flavours available, absolutely sugar free, up to 55mg of caffeine per 100ml, green tea extract, l-carnitine and 6 types of vitamins. These are Nocco drinks that are among the absolute best.
In addition, sucralose has been used for sweetening, which is a non-hazardous sweetener and can therefore only be recommended.
Conclusion
The only thing that spoils the overall impression is that you can't buy this energy drink in a regular supermarket, but you will have to order it from an online store. That's why it's good to have a supply at home.
Thanks to the content of 2.5g of BCAAs in one serving, Nocco is not only useful during the day, but can also be taken before training.

How we rate the ingredients
Nutramino Heat BCAA is without a doubt one of the best drinks you can get on the market.
Its main advantage is the complete absence of sugar, the extreme caffeine content (even 61mg/100ml) and last but not least the other ingredients that are mainly green tea and ginger extracts, B vitamins and branched chain amino acids, which every athlete will appreciate.
Conclusion
One of the best quality drinks you can find on the market. The only criticism is the higher price, as you pay for one can, but unfortunately, this is something you have to take into account with better quality products.
Heat BCAA is simply a good tasting drink with an even better composition.

How we rate the ingredients
In terms of ingredients, this version is the one I would prefer. It contains only water, a liquid coffee component (i.e. a combination of water and coffee), apple concentrate, lemon and grapefruit juice, carbon dioxide, natural flavouring, stabiliser and caffeine flavouring.
Plus, you'll find 36mg of caffeine per 100ml, which is even more than most energy drinks have.
Conclusion
I can certainly only recommend Mazagrande Forte, but I leave the same exclamation mark with the taste, which you'll either love or hate.
Ironically, though, the drink, which isn't called an energy drink at all, has more caffeine and less sugar than the would-be beneficial "energy" drinks. "Personally, I would definitely prefer Mazagrande Forte over them.
- Volume: 250ml

- Our rating: 8.5/10
How we rate the ingredients
The regular version of Mazagrande is quite weak, containing just 11mg of caffeine per 100ml, with the source being coffee extract.
Despite this, it is a drink I can definitely recommend as it contains no harmful substances. The 6.2g of simple carbohydrates are thus represented exclusively from fruit juices.
Conclusion
Although Mazagrande is definitely not your typical energy drink, it is available in every supermarket and it also contains caffeine, which is why we included it in our testing.
And its ingredients are surprisingly good. The only downside is the taste, which you'll either have to get used to or you won't even want to see Mazagrande anymore.

How we rate the ingredients
I dare say Monster Energy Ultra is the first energy drink I would invest in myself. It's completely sugar-free, contains 30mg of caffeine per 100ml, you can choose from five different flavoursand it doesn't have the typical artificial taste of energy drinks.
In addition to acesulfame, sucralose was used in the sweetening process , which is usedis used in many sports supplements and is one of the safest sweeteners.
Conclusion
If you're looking for a typical energy drink that you can get at any better supermarket, I wouldn't hesitate too long over Monster Energy Ultra. The taste isn't bad, it comes out well in terms of value for money, and the ingredients are very decent, so we can recommend it.

How we rate the ingredients
Energy drinks that don't contain sugar are a much better choice. Again, we can highlight the high caffeine, taurine and B vitamins content, just without the sugar.
On the other hand, the sweeteners aspartame and acesulfame K, which are highly controversial to some extent, are used to sweeten the drinks.
Conclusion
I would personally prefer the sugar-free version, although the sweeteners chosen are not much of a win either. As we mentioned in our article focusing on this topic, with their health hazards is greatly exaggerated and studies are often skewed, but if there is an option to avoid them, I would definitely do so.A less controversial sweetener is offered by the following energy drink, for example.
- Volume: 250ml
- Price:
- Where to buy: Kaufland
- Our rating: 7.0/10
How we rate the ingredients
Taste aside, the composition of this drink is defacto identical to the classic variant. Eleven grams of simple sugars and 32mg of caffeine per 100ml.
In addition, however, the taste of tropical fruits is represented. Unfortunately, there are no fruit extracts involved, but the taste is delivered purely artificially.
Conclusion
If the ingredients are no longer attractive to me, at least the taste is, and therefore I would definitely rank the tropical version ahead of the unflavoured variant.
It's certainly not the best choice though, and if you look at the end of today's testing, you'll definitely find better energy drinks.

How we rate the ingredients
The ingredients of most energy drinks are very similar. Tiger again contains 32mg of caffeine per 100ml, which is typical of the vast majority of energy drinks, as well as 12g of simple carbohydrates.
What it does have in addition though is definitely the vitamin C and magnesium content, which is absolutely essential for athletes.
Conclusion
If you are considering an energy drink with sugar, I would personally prefer Tiger becauseits ingredients are all aboutthan competing products, while the price remains similar.
I personally don't like the actual taste of energy drinks, however, if it suits you, Tiger is a slightly better choice.
- Volume: 250ml
- Price:
- Where to buy: Lidl
- Our rating: 6.3/10
How we rate the ingredients
As this energy drink was the cheapest one we tested, we were most sceptical about its ingredients. Paradoxically, though, it performs better than the vast majority of competitors, contains the same amount of caffeine and isn't even nearly as sweet as other energy drinks. Of course, in addition to caffeine, it also contains taurine and B vitamins.
Conclusion
A very cheap drink, but its composition is no worse than its more expensive competitors. If you don't mind energy drinks with sugar, I definitely recommend Kong Strong, because at least you will save your money.

How we rate the ingredients
Redbull differs with a slightly lower caffeine content, as you'll find "only" 30mg in 100ml. But you won't notice this difference at all, unless you are extremely sensitive when it comes to caffeine.
Compared to the others, however, it will cost a bit more, so I would prefer one of the following drinks.
Conclusion
The taste of most of these drinks is the same, the ingredients are also the sameidentical, and thus the price is the deciding factor , which puts Redbull at a bit of a disadvantage.
However, if you are one of its fans who can't get enough of this brand, it is definitely an option. But unfortunately, you will have to pay a little extra compared to the competition.

How we rate the ingredients
Monster is an energy drink that is available in every supermarket and even I couldn't get enough of it until a few years ago.
The amount of caffeine it contains is identical to previous drinks, 32mg/100ml, and it contains 11g of sugar.
Conclusion
If you were deciding between Monster, the previous Redbull and the following Semtex, the truth isSimilarly, it's up to your preference as these drinks are very similar and have the same positives and negatives.
- Volume: 500ml
- Price:
- Where to buy: Billa
- Our rating: 6.0/10
How we rate the ingredients
In our test, we follow a trio that is very similar in composition. First up is Semtex, which again contains 12g of simple sugars, you'll find 32mg of caffeine and 100mg of taurine.
The amount of added additives isn't as large as some of the competitors, but it's still a product I would personally avoid.
Conclusion
Since this drink is very similar to the others, our rating is similar as well. We see no reason to accept such a huge amount of sugars in a drink that contains even lessamount of active ingredients than the weakest pre-workout supplements that are sugar-free.
- Volume: 473ml
- Price:
- Where to buy: Tesco
- Our rating: 5.5/10
How we rate the ingredients
Juiced variant of the classic monstera combines a mix of different exotic juices (e.g.Passion fruit, pineapple, mango and more), but on the other hand has the same amount of caffeine (160mg/500ml) and also contains very suitable B vitamins.
On the other hand , it is necessary to criticise the high content of simple sugars, namely 60g in one can, and the absence of ginseng, which is present in other products.
Conclusion
The main benefit of Mango Loco remains definitely the taste, which is diametrically opposed to classic artificial energy drinks.
However, for the price, you get so many simple sugars in it that its consumption is definitely not worth it. We don't recommend this drink either, but at least you can enjoy it.
- Volume: 500ml
- Price:
- Where to buy: Tesco
- Our rating: 5.5/10
How we rate the ingredients
If I had to sum up this popular 'energy drink' in a few words, I'd definitely say that you'd be hard pressed to find more sugar in a drink.
At least we didn't test any sweeter in our test, because in 100ml you will find 12,7g of sugar and it has a typical taste that seems very artificial.
Conclusion
As hard as we try, we couldn't find a single reason to get into consuming this energy drink. A huge amount of sugars, but the rest of the composition is defacto identical to other drinks.
If you're looking for a higher caffeine content, you're mistaken.
- Volume: 250ml

How we rate the ingredients
At first glance, the composition of this energy drink may appear to be exactly the same as all the others. Moreover, it comes out quite cheap as well, one can costs some .
But the problem is the use of sodium cyclamate and other controversial sweeteners, which we have discussed in detail in a separate article. Although most sweeteners are not to be feared, cyclamate, for example, scores the highest possible harmfulness score on the FÉR food website.
Conclusion
Cyclamate is a sweetener I would avoid out of hand. And by the same token, I'll avoid this energy drink as well. While it's priced fairly well, I personally don't think it's a good investment. I'm sure we'll come across more interesting products in today's article.
What criteria did we take into account in our evaluation?
When we compiled these rankings, we were guided by several pre-determinedcriteria that we believe are important to every consumer. First and foremost, therefore, were the following three aspects:
1. Simple sugars content
On the one hand, it is clear that simple sugars are a good source of energy for our bodies. However, it is also important to consider the other side of this issue, namely that sugar costs is behind many diseases of civilisation and various inflammatory processes. That is why we think it is not a good idea to take 60g of simple sugars from one drink and we do not recommend such drinks to anyone. A far better option is, for example, coffee, which is sugar-free and also has many proven positive properties.
2. The content of active ingredients
What kind of energy drink test would it be if we didn't take into account the active ingredient content. We were particularly interested in the caffeine content, but also in the representation of other We were also interested in the other ingredients , such as ginseng, taurine, L-carnitine and possibly magnesium and various vitamins.
Leaving aside the drinks at the top of our ranking, these supplements haveunfortunately, the contents of all these ingredients are very similar and the deviations from them are only minimal.
3. Controversial substances content
Does the drink contain cyclamate? Fine, a clear indication that you should avoid it out of hand. Another aspect we took into consideration when compiling the rankings is the various controversial substances that energy drinks are sometimes rife with. However, as long as they are not proven to be harmful to health, they are not such a big problem. In any case, it is a good idea to take t into account in the overall ranking.
4. Price
If two energy drinks have a similar composition, price will obviously be the deciding factor. However, price is not always the determining factor, as some energy drinks, although priced significantly higher than others, have the same, if not worse, composition. In most cases, however, you will have to pay a little extra for quality products.
How can you tell the quality of an energy drink?
The above criteria are de facto applicable even ifif you wish to assess the composition of any of the energy products not mentioned here. You should be interested in both the content of simple sugars (ideally I would choose energy drinks without them) and the content of activeThe caffeine content is usually around 30mg/100ml, but if the drink you choose contains more than that, it's a plus in terms of effect.
I would personally put emphasis on all the other additives, from sweeteners to flavourings and colourings, and I have to be honest. The less added ingredients an energy drink contains, the better for your health.
Which alternatives do we recommend?
As you may have noticed from today's article, we are not extremely big proponents of energy drinks. From our point of view, it is an extreme money grab that actually contains very few functional ingredients. You can calculate, for example, the price of one caffeine tablet, which contains roughly a comparable amount to an energy drink. So let's rather present the alternatives that we definitely recommend from our own experience.
Gyokuro tea
Gyokuro tea is something we can't get enough of in our entire editorial team. It is a very exclusive type of green tea that has really positive effects regarding stimulation. If you drink it at work, for example, you will see your productivity increase many times over.
Coffee/caffeine tablets
Coffee or caffeine tablets are a much cheaper alternative than Gyokuro tea. If you like the very intense and bitter taste of coffee, definitely opt for espresso, if on the other hand you don't mind, caffeine tablets work identically without any coffee flavour. They come out very pleasantly priced and the effect is good, so in terms of price/quality ratio it is an ideal stimulant.
Pre-workouts
If you have some physical sporting activity coming up and want to give maximum performance, pre-workout pre-workouts are the best possible option. These are really powerful supplements that maximise concentration and are usually only absolutely minimal in sugar. Personally, I'd recommend Agrezz, for example, which was the winner of our independent comparison of pre-workout products.
