Hydrolyzed proteins are a supplement that is considered by many to be the absolute top in post-workout supplementation, because thanks to their fast absorption, amino acids go straight to the muscle. And while the whole issue is somewhat complex and the topic bestprotein after training would be enough for a separate article, hydrolyzates are undoubtedly very high quality.
That's why we decided to try out BiotechUSA's Hydro Whey Zero in our review today. How was it? Did we like it? Was it too bitter? Find out that and much more in today's review.
Content of the review
At the beginning it remains to add that I decided to try this protein because of its taste, becausewe have tested several products from Biotech on our website and we were very impressed with the taste of all of them. So you can see how I found their hydrolysate a few paragraphs below.
You won't just find hydrolysate in the ingredients
Although the name Hydro Whey Zero may evoke in you that it is a hydrolysate, you would only be partially right in this case. The protein is made up of two protein sources, namely hydrolysate and isolate, which are of course two high-quality protein sources, but it is not pure hydrolysate after all. This blend, in which hydrolysate has a 41% representation, is further enriched with l-arginine, l-glutamine and a creamy component, which is made up ofcoconut fat, maltodextrin, vegetable protein and silica, which acts as an anti-caking agent. In addition, sucralose has been used for sweetening, which is a non-toxic sweetener that is definitely the best possible option.
The best flavor? Chocolate by far!
For our review, I tried Biotech Hydro Whey Zero in two flavors, the tried and true chocolate and vanilla. Well, while the first mentioned flavor impressed me so much that I rank it among the most delicious proteins ever, the second one was the opposite. So you can read my detailed review in the following bullets:
- In my opinion, the Chocolate flavor tastes like the vending machine chocolate that I'm sure you're all familiar with. The taste is very intense, quite sweet and you will definitely look forward to it after every workout. The only minus is the smell, which is quite artificial, but that's not a big problem. There is even absolutely no noticeable bitterness at all, which is typical for most hydrolysates. With a clear conscience I rate the chocolate 9.5 out of 10.
- The vanilla flavour, on the other hand, did not impress me at all. Its taste is rather "watery" and unintense, even though I used equal amounts of water and protein. Still, the bitterness from the protein is not noticeable, but as excited as I was about the chocolate, I'm disappointed with the vanilla. So I rate it only 6 out of 10.
Great solubility and zero foaminess
I used 250ml of water exactly as recommended by the manufacturer when making this supplement. However, in this case I found the taste quite sweet and intense, so I added 50ml of water and so the taste seemed optimal. The protein dissolves absolutely without problems, it does not foam or form lumps during preparation.
For a combination of hydrolysate and isolate, very nice price
Considering that you pay for the whole package, one 25-gram dose will cost you some . In the case of a regular protein, this would of course be a very high price for which very few people would buy a protein. But if you take into account that it is a quality combination of isolate and hydrolysate, the price is very pleasant. But we are more or less used to this from Biotech, as it has a good price/quality ratio for almost all of its supplements.
When and how did I use Hydro Whey Zero?
I usually mention in this paragraph that I followed the recommended dosage and how much water I used. In the case of this hydrolysate, however, I followed a very different approach. I was actually adding 10g to my post-workout shake, which in addition to the hydrolysate also included regular concentrate and micellar casein. It is this combination that very effectively raises the level of amino acids in the blood even in the long term. However, this issue would be enough for a whole separate article.
Final evaluation
Hydrolysate is undoubtedly a supplement that has its merits, but I recommendI recommend it only to a certain extent and in combination with other protein sources rather than alone. Hydro Whey Zero is the best possible option if you opt for hydrolysate, which I can also recommend in terms of value for money. However, I recommend choosing the chocolate variant,
Well, that's all for our review today. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments.
