A morning cup of coffee is something most people can't imagine getting up for the day without. Some people don't care too much about the quality of their coffee and drink it just to have enough energy in the morning. But there are also those who enjoy this life-enhancer.
If you are one of those for whom drinking coffee is an indulgence, and you are not satisfied with ordinary coffee from the supermarket, this review is just for you. Today we're looking at Blendea Supercoffee, a coffee that contains medicinal mushrooms. What are these mushrooms and do they have any health benefits? Read on to find out more.
Content of the review
Blendea prides itself on the fact that all its products are chemical-free and of course of premium quality. This Czech company found inspiration in Asia and now brings its superfoods to us. In addition to coffee, Blendea also has a blend of green herbs and rice protein in its repertoire.
Interesting composition, but unproven effects
As for the coffee component, Supercoffee is a combination of high-quality arabica and robusta beans, so it's nothing groundbreaking in that regard. Given its relatively low caffeine content (only 55 mg per 100g), it's not really suitable as a morning pre-workout. However, we already know that this coffee isn't just about getting you out of bed in the morning. You'll also indulge in ground reishi, chaga and hericium mushrooms in every cup. Specifically, in one serving you'll find:
- 165mg of reishi, which has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. This mushroom lowers blood pressure and also, according to some studies could help fight Alzheimer's disease. In Japan and China, reishi is used as an adjunct in the treatment of cancer.
- 100mg of chaga, which is widely used in Russia in addition to China. Unfortunately, there are currently not many studies that can conclusively refute or confirm its beneficial effects.
- 66mg hericium, which also belongs to the traditional medicine of Asian countries since time immemorial. It supposedly helps maintain a healthy nervous system, stomach and promotes sleep. However, due to the lack of relevant studies, none of these claims can be confirmed.
So the ingredients represented are of good quality, but you won't get nearly enough of the effective amount from one coffee to reap the necessary effect. Lots of supplementsthat use similar ingredients have approximately 6-8 times the concentration in their ingredients. So you need to consider that you are drinking primarily coffee, not a supplement created for maximum health effect.
One dose of Supercoffee contains, among other things, 1000mg of chicory root extract, which ensures normal condition of the intestines, liver and heart, and is designed to support the beneficial effects of the aforementioned mushrooms. Cinnamon is added for better taste.
What is the long-term effect of reishi?
Of the three mushrooms included, reishi is the most important and also the most researched. What is the truth about the promised health benefits? It has been shown to strengthen the immune system by positively affecting white blood cells. In addition, it helps relieve inflammation, fatigue and depression. A very important property of reishi is that it acts as a detoxifier, thus helping to eliminate harmful substances from the body.
This all sounds good on paper, however in practice I personally have not felt any noticeable difference. In fact, most of the studies mentioned above were conducted on people suffering from some sort of disease. For healthy individuals, reishi can only serve as prevention and has no staggering effect.
If you like cinnamon, you will find
I must confess at the outset that I am one of those people who drink coffee before drinkingbecause I don't like the natural bitter taste of coffee. When I was going to try Supercoffee, I was naturally going to taste it without additional flavouring so that my assessment could be indicative.
I have to say that I was really pleasantly surprised. The Ceylon cinnamon gives the coffee a very nice touch, so it tastes very good but still retains its classic bitterness. So both classic coffee lovers and fans of flavored coffee drinks will be in for a treat. Of course, the option to flavour it is still there, but I honestly don't think it's even necessary.
How to enjoy coffee at its best?
I'm sure everyone is very familiar with the preparation of coffee. Simply pour one teaspoon or the included measuring cup (approximately 3.3 grams) of water. To achieve the best taste and at the same time to make the best use of all the contentsThe manufacturer recommends pouring 150 ml of water at a temperature of approximately 80°C.
It is also recommended not to drink the coffee more than twice a day. If you like to have coffee other than in the morning, remember that you should not drink it after 3 pm. If you want to enhance the cinnamon taste, you can flavour your Supercoffee with any sweetener or milk. I personally can highly recommend almond milk, which flavours the coffee perfectly.
Overpriced?
One pack contains 100 grams of coffee and costs . That's a really big price difference compared to regular coffee. Of course, now you can argue that Supercoffee contains medicinal mushrooms, so it is understandable that the price will be higher. This is true, but the ingredients used are certainly not so expensive that the price should be set this high.
However, to avoid blaming Blendea, it is fair to mention that all their ingredients are of the highest quality, avoiding chemicals and guaranteeing all mushrooms to be of organic quality. In my opinion, the price is still exorbitant. After all, for that amount of money one can indulge in a really high quality premium coffee, and even in larger quantities.
Where to buy Supercoffee cheapest?
Final evaluation
I must admit that Supercoffee evokes very mixed feelings in me. On the one hand, it's a good tasting, high quality coffee that also offers a number of health benefits and is free of added chemicals. However, when I take into account the price and, most importantly, the fact that there are not enough studies that show the promised benefits for youI'm more inclined to buy regular coffee next time.
If you try Supercoffee, you'll feel better afterwards and you won't mind reaching for a quaffif you want to dig deeper into your pocket, there's no reason not to indulge regularly. I personally haven't felt any big difference, but I'm not saying it can't work for someone else.
