In this article we will test and analyze several types of proteins (whey concentrates and isolates, micellar casein, soy isolate and vegetable vegan protein) of the popular brand GymBeam, which is especially popular because it offers its products at a fraction of the price compared to its competitors in some cases.
But does it make sense to buy these products? Are their ingredients comparable to those that are significantly more expensive? We will answer this in the following lines.
Content of the review
Since we will be evaluating proteins of different categories, we have to divide them somehow. So first we'll look at the popular whey proteins, which are the most popular of all protein products the best choice in terms of usability (depending on how the whey is obtained, of course).
Of the whey proteins we will specifically test and evaluate True Whey, Pure Iso Whey, Just Whey. Then we will evaluate the so-called night protein(micellar casein) and finally we will take a look at 2 vegan proteins Soy Protein Isolate and Vegan Bio Protein.
1. GymBeam True Whey Protein

- GymBeam Protein True Whey.
- Weight: 1000g, 2500g
- 15flavours.
- Price: ,
- Our rating: 5/10
How do we rate the ingredients?
The key problem we see is that GymBeam states in the website description that the protein is processedCFM process, while the product label says it is a dried whey concentrate. It is difficult to judge what process GymBeam uses, but if it is CFM, which is a costly process, the protein will be more expensive. When we asked the GymBeam brand directly for this information, we received a very general and vague answer, in which wewe were told that almost all proteins are CFM nowadays and that it is not necessary to base our decisions on these abbreviations. We of course disagree, as CFM is not really used in all proteins and every CFM protein manufacturer likes to boast about these three letters on their product.
This is a whey concentrate that has 82.6g of protein per 100g if you buy the protein unflavoured. The sweetened protein has flavour and colouring added, so there will be 7.6g less protein. We can't take this number so accurately because for each flavour different substances are used in different amounts to sweeten it. However, it's not about the protein, but the processing that determines how good the protein is, what proportions of bioactive fractions it contains, etc. Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not mention this on their website.
Across all flavours the emulsifier is soya lecithin, the excipients are flavourings and colourings, the sweetener is sucralose or stevia. Some flavours contain defatted cocoa powder, white chocolate chips. There is probably nothing to complain about, as these are substances commonly found in proteins. In the case of a stronger flavour, they might just be in unnecessarily high amounts in this protein.
How do we rate the taste?
We tested the Chocolate Coconut flavour. In the case of GymBeam proteins, you usually get a taste for the taste. It is definitely an individual factor, but we rate this flavor positively. Since the taste is more pronounced, there will be a risk of overdrinking. It is therefore advisable to alternate flavours. Drinking one type every day would probably not be a sensible way to go.
The second flavour tested was 'off-flavour'. Unsweetened whey concentrate probably won't satisfy a lot of people, but I personally had no problem drinking it. It's not something you have to plug your nose for, shove a shake up your nose and then do your best to keep it from coming back down. Quite simply, it can be drunk while leaving you with a rather neutral feeling from the taste.
Conclusion
For little money, unfortunately, little music. This is a tasty protein, but one that doesn't have a clearly specified method of obtaining whey. Judging by the low price, one can guess that it will be a low-quality process that produces, for exampledenatured protein, for example, where the protein does not contain as many growth factors and bioactive fractions.
2. GymBeam Pure Iso Whey

- GymBeam Pure Iso Whey.
- Weight: 1000g, 2500g
- 4flavours.
- Price: ,
- Our rating: 6/10
How do we rate the ingredients ?
I will repeat myself. Again, there are a lot of question marks over what process was used to extract the whey in the case of this protein. With whey isolate, the basic advantage is that it contains minimal fats, sugars and is lactose free. Thus, it is better and faster to digest than the classic concentrate.
6g of BCAAs are added to this product, which improves the amino acid profile to 10.3g of leucine, 4.9g of isoleucine and 5.8g of valine per 100g. This increases the total protein content, which is 86g per 100g in the sweetened variant. We don't see a major advantage in the addition of BCAAs to the product. The higher BCAA content causes the product to taste bitter, which then has to be made up for with sweeteners.
Sucralose is used as a sweetener. The emulsifier in this case is not soya lecithin, but carboxymethylcellulose, which is not a health hazard. We were rather surprised by the presence of MCT fat from coconut oil, but it is not something that somehowMCT is a fast source of energy, which is not to the disadvantage of the isolate. Finally, of course, there are flavourings and colourings. Unfortunately, we cannot estimate the percentage of these substances.
How do we evaluate the taste?
The first flavour tested was Strawberry Cream. The flavor doesn't disappoint, but we see the risk of overdrinking much higher with these fruity flavors than with non-fruity ones like chocolate or vanilla. I have a neutral feeling about this strawberry flavor. It didn't disappoint, but it didn't disappoint in any major way either.
We also tested the unflavored isolate. Since the protein is stripped of fat and sugar to a minimum, it was obvious that the taste would be worse than True Whey, and it was. The higher BCAA content did its part too. As with the aforementioned True Whey unflavored protein - nothing that couldn't be handled.
Conclusion
This is a more digestible protein than True Whey. The big downside, again, is that we're not sure how the whey is processed. The low price does not suggest that it is a CFM method. Given the fact that neither True Whey nor Iso Whey show any significant health benefits, we choose the Iso Whey option as the better choice.
3. GymBeam Just Whey

- GymBeam Just Whey.
- Weight: 1000g, 2000g
- Number of flavours: 4
- Price: ,
- Our rating: 7/10
How do we rate the ingredients?
It is a combination of whey concentrate, isolate and hydrolysate. Again, we are not sure of the technological process of production and we do not know in what proportions concentrate, isolate and hydrolysate are present. Given that the protein has 75g of protein, 7g of carbohydrate and 5.1g of fat per 100g, we're guessing that due to the higher carbohydrate and fat content it will be more like 60-70% concentrate.
With this protein you can already tell that there is a visible effort to improve it. DigeZyme® digestive enzymes have been added to the protein to improve the digestibility and usability of the protein itself.
The protein also contains added vitamins and minerals. In the case of minerals, unfortunately, they are not always organic compounds, so their usability is in some cases poor. Normally, vitamins and minerals are not added to protein. However, by mentioning their addition, the label can be made more attractive, especially to the uninitiated.
As far as excipients are concerned, this is again fine. There is nothing harmful to health. There are flavourings and sweeteners in the form of sucralose and steviol glycosides.
How do we rate the taste?
We found the Chocolate Milkshake flavour we tested to be definitely the best of all the previous and subsequent proteins. Mixing it together resulted in a well-dissolved, delicious drink. In this case, the taste cannot be faulted. We don't have any experience with drinking it over a longer period of time, so it's hard to say how the protein would taste after time.
Conclusion
Of all the whey proteins tested, this is the best choice. Compared to quality competing brands, however, it is unfortunately average to below average. With this protein, as with the ones tested above, the price is great, but at the expense of quality.
As we said. The fact that we are not sure of the technological process is quite crucial. It is a fundamental aspect of any protein. The price certainly doesn't suggest that it should be a CFM protein.
4. GymBeam Micellar Kasein

- Name: GymBeam Micellar Kasein
- Weight: 1000g
- Number of flavours: 2
- Price:
- Our rating: 8/10
Micellar casein is a great choice if you want to supply your body with protein for a long time (up to 7 hours). There are various opinions on the use of micellar casein and many of you will argue that we can replace it with cottage cheese. This is essentially the case. However, there are some individuals who are not so keen on larger amounts of cottage cheese - it gives them indigestion and bloating. In this case, micellar casein can help.
How do we evaluate the ingredients?
Micellar caseins are usually obtained by microfiltration and ultrafiltration of milk protein. Since we've never heard of any other technological process for obtaining micellar casein, I'm guessing it will be no different here. So, it is micellar casein to which non-toxic sweeteners and flavorings are added to give the product flavor.
In the case of this protein, we don't get much information. It has 75g of protein per 100g, which is common with almost every competitor's micellar casein.
How do we rate the taste?
The flavour tested was vanilla. Micellar caseins have a specific taste that comes through in these proteins. It was no different here. Whey proteins are definitely different in taste and the taste of micellar casein is not comparable to them. Still, in this case it is a hilarious flavour.
Conclusion
There aren't many manufacturers on the market offering micellar casein. Many people really make do with cottage cheese, which is also comparable in price to micellar casein. So it depends more on your tolerance for more cottage cheese. If it doesn't suit you, you can definitely try the micellar casein alternative.
5. GymBeam Protein Soy Isolate

- GymBeam Protein Soy Isolate
- Weight: 1000g
- Number of flavours: 2
- Price:
- Our rating: 7/10
How do we rate the ingredients?
We don't see any significant benefit that soy protein offers. Soy may be rich in (non-protein) protein, but that's about it. It has already been described many times how soy is a risky raw material and, if used repeatedly, can cause many problems.
How do we evaluate the taste?
We tested vanilla. The flavor is not very strong, the soy comes through quite a bit in the protein, but those who don't have a problem with the taste of soy won't mind the taste of this protein either. In this case, we appreciated especially that the protein is not over-sweetened and there will be less risk of overdrinking it.
Conclusion
Soy protein doesn't provide any benefits and due to its very poor amino acid spectrum, we would describe it as a "dead protein".
6. Vanavita Organic Vegan Protein

- VanaVita Bio Vegan Protein
- Weight: 600g
- 2flavours.
- Price:
- Our rating: 9/10
How do we rate the ingredients?
I never believed I would be touting a vegan protein, but it is. I have to say that this is exactly what a vegan is looking for. And even we who are fans of classic whey are happy with the ingredients of this product and have no problem including this protein to spice up our diet.
It is a plant-based complex that is made up of a combination of pea, rice and hemp protein. These are the best possible ingredients you can offer a vegan. We don't know in what proportions it is found here, but the positive for us is that the very best raw material (peach) is listed first, which means we know that it is present in the highest quantity in the protein.
There is a blend of fruit powders, organic coconut sugar and natural flavours added. These are certainly not things that are detrimental, on the contrary, they have their place in this product.
How do we rate the taste?
The taste isn't amazing, but that's par for the course with quality vegan proteins. You probably won't enjoy it, but you'll get used to it. We think the risk of overdrinking is minimal in this case. I would definitely forgive the taste for the quality of the ingredients.
Conclusion
Definitely recommended to any vegan. If you're not vegan, you probably won't even buy it. However, if you do happen to get your hands on it, definitely give it a try.
Try Vanavita Organic Vegan Protein
Conclusion to GymBeam Protein
Unfortunately, a big disappointment for us. Bottom line, GymBeam is a brand that prioritizes price over quality, and it really shows in their products. Obviously, every product will find its customer, but we personally wouldn't invest in an uncertain formula. If you're planning to invest in a cheap protein, look instead for the Protein&Co brand, which we don 't We' ve tested it extensively and we've been blown away by its ingredients, flavours and affordable price.
