Magnesium is one of the most deficient minerals in athletes. In today's review, we would like to look at whether magnesium oil is the most effective method by which you can replenish magnesium in your body.
We'll describe my personal experience and explain how magnesium spray works in the first place.

Why supplement magnesium externally?
Magnesium is an essential mineral for the body. It is responsible for the regulation of muscle contractions, blood pressure, insulin metabolism, nerve transmission and is a crucialcofactor for adenosine triphosphate metabolism (ATP = the most important energy source for working muscle). It is often said to be the most important mineral. This statement is a bit misguided, however, as each mineral is essentially equally important and we could not function long-term without any of them.
The only problem with magnesium is that its demands on the body are higher, so it often becomes deficient. The general recommendations for how much magnesium we should take daily are around 350 mg. However, this number can be much higher as factors (physical activity, stress, age,...) increase magnesium requirements.

What is magnesium oil?
We probably all know about supplementing magnesium orally. However, not many people know that there is another form of magnesium supplementation, through the skin using magnesium sprays and oils.
This is a combination of water and magnesium chloride (in the case of Renovality magnesium oil from 31%), obtained byderived from the ancient Lake Zechstein, which existed some 250 million years ago. Zechstein magnesium chloride is considered to be the purest natural form of magnesium in the world.

How does magnesium oil work?
Although our skin is a protective barrier, it is permeable to some substances. Simply put - in the same way that our bodies excrete sweat through the skin (from the body'sout), it is also possible to let some substances into the body through the skin. This type of application is called transdermal (through the skin), and various creams work on this principle.patches, nicotine or hormone patches and also the magnesium oil we have already discussed.
You spray the magnesium oil on the skin and the skin gets it through the sweat glands to theinto the bloodstream to the cells that can absorb the magnesium. The big advantage over oral magnesium is that the magnesium applied skips the digestive the digestive tract, which often destroys some oral forms of magnesium or does not absorb it at all. The transdermal form of magnesium is absorbed through the skin, thereby reversing this "damage".", which eliminates this damage and allows the magnesium to reach the cells much faster than with oral administration.
The main advantages are therefore:
- Itis absorbed directly, bypassing the digestive tract
- No risk of diarrhoea (as can happen with oral magnesium)
- Almost immediate effectiveness
- Can be used topically to treat the site in case of cramping
- Easy to apply
- As an athlete who uses magnesium oil regularly (especially whencramps), I feel considerable relief a few minutes after applying it to the site
Disadvantages:
- Can cause tingling before one gets used to it
- May irritate the skin (rarely - especially on the injured area or on freshly waxed skin, for example)
- Its effects are not yet fully researched and there are few studies (some even suggest that magnesium oil cannot effectively replenish magnesium levels in the long term, but we await further research)

How to take magnesium oil correctly?
Time does not matter. The best time to apply it is after a warm shower (bath), when our pores in the skin areand are able to let more magnesium into the body. It is especially recommended to apply to joint pits such as the armpit or the pit below the knee. However, it can be applied anywhere on the skin, hands or feet. Avoid areas where the skin is weak or injured. Do not apply magnesium oil to the face and genitals.
Magnesium oil dosage
As a preventative measure , 3-5 squirts, once a day is generally recommended. In case of certain problems, the dose of magnesium applied may be multiplied several times. If acute cramping occurs, I recommend applying magnesium oil directly to the affected area and massaging into the skin.

What is the cost? You'll be surprised...
You'll be surprised to know that magnesium oil is very well priced. If you take a good quality form of magnesium in capsules for comparison, a monthly pack will set you back around . Renovality magnesium oil will cost you a higher initial investment of around 300.but a 200 ml pack will last you about 3-4 months of regular use. That's a big difference, which will have a positive effect on your wallet in the long run.
Conclusion
Magnesium oil is an ideal helper for every person. It is very reasonably priced and lasts for a long time. I would recommend using it as prevention and for acute cramps that can often occur during athletic performance. I do not recommend eliminating magnesium in the form of oral supplements, since, as I pointed out, there are also conflicting studies that indicate that the transdermal form does not have a significant effect on the long-term replenishment of magnesium in the body. Many more studies will certainly be needed to make this information more clear.
