While I'm definitely not one of God knows how big fans of the MyProtein brand, one thing they must they have a really great range of original and differently put together supplements. Well, and one of them is the Vegan Protein Blend, in which the protein is derived from pea and broad bean isolate instead of conventional whey. So is it worth investing in? Or are there much more acceptable and better vegan proteins?
Content of the review
The MyProtein brand offers a range of protein supplements tailored to the vegan lifestyle on its official website. In addition to Vegan Protein Blend, there is also pea protein isolate, hemp protein, rice protein, soy protein or even sparkling protein water.
Quite a nice composition
Since it is a vegan protein blend, Vegan Protein Blend does not contain any whey. As I mentioned right in the introduction, there is pea protein isolate and protein from broad beans or fava beans if you prefer as a protein source instead.Which is a very interesting and great choice. Peas are often described as the best alternative to whey. Unlike other vegetable protein sources, it contains a high amount of essential amino acids. However, its only drawback is its relatively low content of sulphur amino acids such as methionine or cysteine. It is therefore ideal to combine it with rice protein, which is very rich in sulphur amino acids.
However, instead of rice protein, fava beans are used as an additional protein source. This is a rather interesting choice, which offers an amino acid spectrum comparable to to soya protein, but unfortunately, like peas, it does not contain a large amount of sulphur amino acids. When using Vegan Protein Blend, it is therefore advisable to continuously supplement these amino acids from other sources.
In addition, the ingredients also include the artificial sweetener sucralose, vegetable cream, turmeric oil extract and, somewhat unnecessarily, a thickener. Despite the thickener and sucralose content, instead of which I would have appreciated, for example, steviol glycosides, it is for me in the end, the composition of this vegan protein mix is quite a pleasant surprise.

Solubility and nutritional values
As it happens with vegan proteins, the solubility was far from perfect. The protein left lumps and had a kind of unpleasant creamy consistency. Drinking it was definitely not very pleasant, not to mention the taste, which I'll get to in a moment.
The nutritional values of Vegan Protein Blend are quite pleasant. It has about 381 kcal per 100 g and a total of 74 g of protein. In one 30 g serving there are 22 g of protein, which are really great values for a vegan protein. The unflavoured version has even better nutritional values.
Taste rating
And now we come to the most important category for many, namely taste. Although Vegan Protein Blend is currently available in a total of nine flavours on the MyProtein websiteI personally only had the opportunity to try one flavour, chocolate. Wondering how it turned out?
Unfortunately, the chocolate was an extreme disappointment. Of course I didn't expect any miracles from a vegan protein, but I was still literally disgusted by how disgusting this protein tasted. Without a doubt, this is one of the worst tasting proteins I have ever encountered.
Affordability
As far as price is concerned, a 250 g packet will set you back a reasonable 277 on the manufacturer's official website. If you would like to buy a larger pack, you can find it on fitness007. There, a half-kilo pack will cost you , a one-kilo pack and a two-and-a-half-kilo pack . Depending on the size of the package, the price of one dose is somewhere between 16 and .
Just for comparison, a 600 g pack of the leader of our ranking of the best vegan proteins Reflex Plant Based Protein is available for . The recommended dose comes out to some . If you are thinking about buying Vegan Protein Blend, I would definitely recommend buying some of its larger and therefore more convenient packages.
Final verdict
In the end, MyProtein Vegan Protein Blend is quite a good product, which offers great nutritional values and a pleasant composition. I very much appreciate the use of pea and bean protein in place of soy, a more commonly used alternative to whey.
But unfortunately, where it fails extremely is in its taste. It was downright disgusting and I really admire anyone who finds it to their liking.Of course, you have to bear in mind that I only had the opportunity to try one of the nine flavours. But I seriously doubt that the others will be so much better to recommend them. So what is the final verdict?
Even though I'm probably giving a cautious thumbs up in the end, I can't quite recommend buying it. In fact, there are much better vegan proteins on the market that I think are much more worth investing in than this one. For example, in addition to the aforementioned Plant Based Protein from Reflex, I would recommend Vegan Protein from BiotechUSA, which offers a really high quality and balanced composition for a very low price.
