Nutrend Hydro Whey: the underrated protein that ranks among the absolute top

In today's review I have prepared one last whey hydrolysate for you, which is probably I'm going to finish testing proteins from this category of extremely fast absorbing proteins for a while.
However, don't despair, in a short time I have reviewed many hydrolysates (especially the most popular ones) and in my opinion they are the best and highest quality ones you can find on the Czech market. That's why I definitely think that literally everyone can choose from the proteins I've tried recently. In the near future, I may look at proteins for vegans or caseins, for example, which we have very few of on the web. But today we will introduce Hydro Whey from Nutrend. A protein that has completely changed my view and opinion on the whole brand and I will gladly welcome Nutrend in my home pantry with supplements after a long time.

The Nutrend brand has a very long tradition in the Czech Republic and has been in the sports nutrition field for decades. Honestly Nutrend has always had a bad reputation in terms of taste, quality and overall popularity on the Czech fitness scene. Even today, when I ask people in my neighborhood, most of them tell me that Nutrend is bad, they don't want recommend it to anyone or use it themselves, but I tell them that they are living in the past and this talk is long past its zenith.
I myself have witnessed and experienced first hand how extremely high quality Nutrend products really are. I have consulted with many leading experts and specialists who have confirmed the same. I am more than sure that in today's year 2022, Nutrend is among the absolute toptop in the Czech market and they cannot be better in quality, and I stand by this statement.
But now let's get down to the actual review of their Hydro Whey protein, which literally took me by surprise.

Very high quality composition with questionable addition of wheat fiber

1. In the first place, as the main and only source of protein in the formula, we find partially hydrolyzed whey Isolate under the patented raw material Hydrovon, where it is a degree of hydrolysis DH8 (as offered by brands such as Extrifit or Amix). The advantage of using Hydrovon is above all the 100% certainty in the certified quality of the protein and not only for this reasonFor this reason it is the best option for whey protein we can find on the Czech market.
2. Ironically, the second place in the composition of the protein is occupied by added wheat fibre, which the manufacturer claims to be gluten-free. The addition of wheat fibre is by no means usual and it is practically the first time I have seen it in a protein of such quality. Personally, I'm no fan of adding this ingredient to a high-end fast-absorbing hydrolysate like Hydrovon, becausebecause adding fibre counterproductively slows down the absorption of nutrients and amino acids into the blood and makes the hydrolysate pointless. However, this is only said in theory, in practice only 1.5 g of fibre is contained in 100g of the product, soit will not have any such counterproductive effects. Still, in my opinion, it is a completely unnecessary, burdensome raw material.
3. Furthermore, the ingredients such as added flavourings (artificial), colourings (natural), emulsifiers and other additives are of coursetor (soya lecithin), anti-caking agents, salt (such as sodium chloride) or stabilisers such as acacia and xanthan gum. These are substances that are typically added to dietary supplements to achievedesired consistency, density, moisture, to reduce foaminess of the final product, etc. The aforementioned substances do not interfere in any way and are not harmful or burdensome to the body. On the contrary, some of them may even have a positive effect on human health (e.g. xanthan gum, soya lecithin).
4. Last but not least, I would like to highlight the addition of the digestive enzyme lactase, which perfectly cleaves the last traces of lactose that might be present in the protein, thus ensuring perfect digestion and utilisation of the protein.Another added functional ingredient is vitamin B3. But the biggest and most beneficial added functional ingredient from my point of view is the unequivocalis the addition of the mineral chromium in chelated form in absolutely adequate amounts. Chromium is, in my opinion, a much underrated mineral in the public eye. I myself supplement it to my post-workout protein separately and I'm thrilled that it won't be needed here. Again, chromium ensures protein utilization in protein, regulates blood sugar and helps the body manage all theall macronutrients in general, which is a huge plus for both burning fat and gaining muscle mass.
5. Lastly, Nutrend's Hydro Whey is sweetened with quality sweeteners like sucralose and steviol glycosides. For the most part, sucralose was used (which I won't even try to describe here, everyone must already know itt like your shoes) and it has been supplemented with natural, body-beneficial stevia, which has many health benefits. I can quickly mention, for example, that it improves insulin sensitivity or has a positive effect on blood sugar levels. In closing, I want to mention that I'm very happy to see quality brands using stevia in sweetening, even if it's from a smaller amount. I believe that in the future, manufacturers will learn to flavor protein perfectly even using only stevia alone.

Hydro Whey from Nutrend has a very high quality composition.

Nutritional values that will please everyone

When it comes to the nutritional values of protein, everyone is naturally interested in the amount of protein per 100g of product. Here, this value ranges from 78g - 80g (depending on the flavour chosen), which is a value that is above standard and not something any protein should be ashamed of. On top of that, per 100g of product we find a negligible 1.5g of fat (absolutely nothing) and about 6g of carbohydrates, in which we probably find residual traces of lactose. The whole protein contains 354 - 361 kcal per 100g, which will put a smile on the face of many an athlete on a diet.
The complete disclosure of the amino acid spectrum of the protein is also considered a sovereign step by the manufacturer, although I think it's a good step and the customer will know that the manufacturer is not cheating them.

Chocolate and vanilla are both very good.
Chocolate and vanilla are both very good.

Is the chocolate flavour worth the sin?

Hydro Whey is available in a total of three flavours. It's the familiar classic trinity of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry.
I got two flavours for you to test after a long time and those are vanilla and chocolate. They are the most popular and most used variants in general, so I'm glad that I managed to get both of them thanks to the e-shop bodyburistika.com.

  • Chocolate (8/10) - I was very pleasantly surprised by this flavour. For being whey hydrolysate, there wasn't even the slightest hint of bitterness. On the contrary, the protein was pleasantly sweet and I have to say that although I like a slight bitterness (like they have DH32 hydrolysis grade proteins), this flavour literally tasted like Granko and I looked forward to it every day. In my opinion, if you like milk chocolate, you're guaranteed to like Nutrend's hydro. There's nothing chemical smelling, nothing that bothers me. On the other hand, it is not the best chocolate flavor I have ever tasted, if only for the reason that I prefer dark chocolate.
  • Vanilla (8/10) - Although I am not a fan of vanilla flavours, I was very pleasantly surprised with this variant. In my eyes, it even managed to match my favorite flavor, chocolate, and that's saying something. Immediately after sipping, there is a nice sweet vanilla undertone that you are guaranteed to love. There was absolutely no bitterness or artificial aftertaste here either. Of course, there are definitely better vanilla flavours out there, but you have to takethat it is still a hydrolysate that is used mainly for its properties and not its taste. Although the vanilla flavor was very good for Nutrend and I recommend you to try it.
Tip: Don't be afraid to mix and match the different flavours. For example, the ratio of chocolate and vanilla flavors has worked well for me 1:1 (for example, 20g of chocolate protein and 20g of vanilla protein).

Perfect digestibility, instant solubility with no lumps and zero foaming

I followed the manufacturer's instructions for preparation, mixing 40g of protein in a shaker in 240ml of water.
The resulting drink was more of a water consistency, as is usually the case with hydrolysates. However, a slight hint of creaminess was visible (probably from the wheat fibre, xanthan gum and acacia gum).
I was pleasantly surprised that even after frantic stirring in the shaker, no scent was formedand the protein powder dissolved instantly.I put the most emphasis on the digestibility of the protein. Just because it is whey hydrolysate, I did not expect any digestive sweats.and the digestibility was supposed to be top notch, which it was, and I didn't experience the slightest problem with digestion. This was definitely helped by the addition of the digestive enzymes lactase and chromium, which together help ourto digest the last of the lactose and make perfect use of every milligram of amino acids in the protein.

Tip: When making a delicious protein shake, use a blender to whip up an absolutely luxurious affair.

When to use hydrolysates? Definitely after your workout!

Hydro Whey from Nutrend contains high quality hydrolysed isolate (in the form of Hydrovon branded raw material) with a hydrolysis level of DH8. This means that it contains very easily and extremely quickly absorbed protein, which is why it is best suited for use immediately after or close to training.
It can also be used at any time of the day to help ease your digestion. For this reason, it is best suited for times when you are consuming large amounts of food, feeling full and over-saturated (such as the pick-up phase).
Because the product is already pre-digested (hydrolyzed), do not count on it to fill you up for a long time, for this purpose I would use another protein that the body has to digest at least first.

Tip: Try consuming whey protein alone within 10 minutes after your workout. Don't indulge in carbs until about 30 minutes after your workout. This way, you'll boost growth hormone flush and make fat burning more efficient.

High price for high quality

The price of Nutrend's hydrolysate is its Achilles heel, because it's really high. We can get the protein in two packs and the more convenient one, the bigger pack has a weight of 1600 g and costs 1890,- on the e-shop bodyburistika.com. In this case, one 30g dose (standard scoop) costs 36,-.
When I compare the price with a competing whey isolate from Amix, HydroPure from Amix will cost you much cheaper, even though it contains the same raw material Hydrovon. However, I think it's only a matter of time before Amix makes its protein more expensive and both products will be priced the same. As is usually the case, buying the smaller 800g pack will cost morea little bit more expensive, it'll cost you 1035,-, so I don't recommend it too much.

Final evaluation

Is it worth getting Hydro Whey from Nutrend? In my own mind the immediate answer is yes! But to be objective, I have to say that it depends a lot on you. On your goals, ambitions, training method, frequency, intensity and much more. I would say that if you are or want to be a top or professional athlete, you shouldn't compromise and get the best the market has to offer. In this case, I definitely recommend Hydro Whey, go for it, you won't go wrong.
On the other hand, if you are a recreational, occasional exerciser or you exercise just for fun and you don't have theI have to say that it will be a waste of money for you. In this case, I recommend a classic whey concentrate or a multi-ingredientprotein that you can have whenever you want and you don't have to think about anything. Personally, I 'm thrilled with the hydrolysate from Nutrend. It really changed my perspective and opened my eyes. I definitely won't have a problem paying extra for the quality Nutrend and this protein offers in the future.
