Perhaps few proteins would be as iconic as Gold Whey Standard from Optimum Nutrition. And no wonder, this protein has won the quality award ten times in a row on the biggest American fitness portal Bodybuilding.com, which gives this award really fairly. And in today's review we'll take a look at whether it's a good investment and how it performs in comparison with proven Czech products. Here we go.
Content of the review
At the beginning I would like to remind you that Gold Whey Standard also ranked very well in our Best Whey Protein Rankings. So if you prefer to compare it with others before a detailed analysis, feel free to take a look at this ranking as well.
Absolutely premium composition even without CFM
The first thing that may surprise you when you look at Gold Whey Standard in more detail is the fact that this protein is not made using the cross-filtration method, which we consider to be the best quality in our country today. But this is not too big a problem if you look at the production technology in more detail. Cross microfiltration is not very different from other high quality filtrationIt just uses turbulent flow, which causes less clogging of the filters. If the manufacturer uses (and there is no doubt that in the case of Optimum Nutrition) another quality filtration method, the effect is more or less the same. The fact that this supplement is of high quality is also evidenced by its amino acid profile, because in one scoop you will find, among other things, over 5g of BCAAs. But now from the beginning:
Gold Whey Standard is a protein made up of 3 protein sources. These are whey concentrate, whey isolate and whey hydrolysate. isolate, a very suitable protein that is justified both during the day and after training. This blend is further enriched with a complex of five enzymes (amylase, protease, cellulase, lipase and beta-D-galactosidase), so you get a very good digestibility indeed. In addition to this, the protein naturally contains sweeteners (namely acesulfame potassium and sucralose) and a flavour that varies depending on the variant you choose. The exception in terms of composition is the cinnamon flavour, in which you will not find digestive enzymes.
Really hassle-free preparation
Since we tested this protein for you over the summer, in addition to the usual 300ml of water, I used a few ice cubes to add some intensity to the taste of Gold Whey Standard. I dumped one heaping scoop of protein into this amount of water and shook it a few times. The protein dissolved instantly and easily, leaving not a single lump. At the same time, it did not foam during preparation, so it was possible to drink it immediately after mixing.
So many flavours available that everyone has to choose
In our reviews, we always make it a habit to sample multiple flavours so that you can readto give our readers some short evaluations between each other. In the case of Gold Whey Standard, however, it was beyond our capabilities, because only the Fitness007.cz website, where we took the protein from, offers 13 different flavours. So I chose only two variants that interested me the most and I tested them for a longer period of time. These were French vanilla and milk chocolate and our evaluation looks like this:
- The French vanilla (9.4/10) personally impressed me. The flavour had a creamy consistency when mixed and was very drinkable. The aroma is really reminiscent of vanilla, the protein is not over-sweetened and it doesn't feel artificial. When I had it with ice during hot days, it was really refreshing and I looked forward to it every time. Without any exaggeration, I have to say that although I have tasted dozens of vanilla proteins, this was one of the best. I give it 9.4 out of 10 points.
- The milk chocolate (5/10) was just the opposite. The flavor was very bland, not sweet at all, and really hard to drink. The bland taste is probably due to the fact that I chose the milk chocolate variant.Chocolate, rather than the double chocolate or any of the other chocolate variants that Gold Whey Standard offers. The taste of this version is reminiscent of a regular unflavored protein that is really subtly sweetened. For anyone who doesn't like bold variants this is probably a good choice, but I personally only rate it 5 out of 10.
Slightly higher price, which is compensated by the quality
If you decide to invest in this protein, you will pay about for a large pack (2270g). This price puts Gold Whey Standard among the more expensive average, because this price is absolutely common with our proteins. In this case, however, it is important to take into account the fact that it is not an ordinary concentrateIt is not a regular concentrate, but a mix of three different sources, which increases the cost of production/raw materials.
Final assessment - Great protein even during the day
I have to say that we were very pleasantly surprised by the Gold Whey Standard protein , however I don't think it was the best protein on the market. In the same price range, there is also MPS-5 for example, which in our opinion is the best post-workout protein both in terms of taste and effect, and which won our ranking of the best multi-ingredient proteins. In my opinion, it is a much better investment, even though it is from a different category. However, you can definitely indulge in this protein during the day if you don't mind the higher price. The flavors, (even the ones we haven't tasted) have faced a huge amount of positive reactions, so you'll definitely enjoy them as well.
