If I had to pick one and only one supplement that is extremely overlooked nowadays, it would definitely be micellar casein. While most people associate it with taking it before bed, it seems to be an ideal choice for post-workout as well, if combined correctly.
That's why today we decided to test Pure Micellar, one of my all-time favorite proteins. How did I like it? Does it really have something to offer? That's what we'll look at in today's review.
Content of the review
At the beginning it remains to add that Pure Micellar ranked very well in our comparison of micellar caseins, so if you are more interested in comparing it to the competition rather than evaluating the protein, we recommend visiting the rankings.
Native production technology that preserves everything important
What I have to appreciate first of all is the minimal content of any additives that you see in a lot of foreign manufacturers. In addition to micellar casein, you'll find glutamine, flavoring, and the sweeteners neohesperidin and sucralose. The last ingredient varies depending on the flavour chosen, chocolatechocolate contains defatted cocoa powder and the vanilla variant contains safflower extract.
This means that the protein contains only and only 6 basic ingredients. No preservatives or other problematic substances that would reduce the overall quality of the product.
In Pure Micellar, you will find plenty of health-enhancing substances, be it the various peptides that improvephosphorus, or calcium, which is very highly usable.
The best flavour? Definitely chocolate!
Pure Micellar is available in two variants, both of which I have tried for completeness of today's review. What the two variants have in common is a very thick consistency, as the protein is more similar in density to pudding than protein. If I had to choose one variant though, it would definitely be the chocolate, which I rate 8.5 out of 10. The cocoa flavour is quite intense, full-bodied and worked really well in conjunction with the thick consistency.
The vanilla was a lot worse, which is why I rate it only 7 out of 10, unlike the chocolate. It had quite a noticeable aftertaste of artificial sweeteners, which put me off somewhat. So if you decide to go for the chocolate, you will definitely not regret it. The vanilla has also had fairly positive reviews, but from my own experience I wouldn't recommend it too highly.
How and when did I use micellar casein?
Most people have, as I've already mentioned in today's review, associated micellar casein with taking it before bed. And while that is obviously its primary rationale, it can also be taken after a workoutafter a workout, ideally in combination with a good quality whey protein and, for example, egg albumin. Why? Because this way you replenish the amino acid spectrum for a really long time and this maximizes you muscle mass growth.
I myself used micellar casein in both cases, i.e. after training and before bedtime, when I didn't combine it with anything else. What I definitely have to appreciate about Pure Micellar is its seamless solubility and zero foaming, which makes preparing the protein without any significant effort.
A very good value for money investment
If you buy the largest pack available, 2250g, you will pay less than per serving, which is really an unbeatable price. If you were to rely on cottage cheese instead of micellar casein, which is of course much less absorbable, you would pay a very similar price.
Only the bare minimum of competing supplements provide such value for money. If you choose a kilo pack, the price will be slightly higher, namely per dose. Well, if you decide to buy a single sample, the price shoots up to , so I definitely recommend choosing a larger package. I certainly wouldn't worry about not being able to use it up, because micellar casein always finds a use.
Final assessment
As is usual with Prom-IN supplements, they have once again managed to create an effective supplement at an affordable price. If you're used to eating cottage cheese before bed, Pure Micellar is definitely a better choice. The only problem I see is that, unlike cottage cheese, it doesn't fill you up muchso it won't solve any hunger problems you may have in the evening. Otherwise, it's a good investment that I can only recommend.
