PVL Mutant Iso Surge: Internationally recognized protein that has gone around the world

The international brand Mutant, originally from America, is probably one of the most famous bodybuilding brands ever. I don't know anyone who would tell me that they have never heard of it or that they have never tried any of their products.

I did get a chance today to test the highest quality protein they offer. It is Iso Surge, which is touted worldwide as the best and fastest absorbing protein that also retains the perfect taste. I'm curious to see how this protein fares in the review itself.

Before the review itself I have to say that I have tried a lot of products from Mutant in the past and unfortunately I am not a big fan of them.
The quality of their products was often quite lame and I often had indigestion caused by apparently poor quality ingredients. Anyway, I don't want to disparage the brand before I've tried the product. I believe it can surprise me pleasantly, so let's get down to the review itself.

The composition of the protein, which pleasantly surprised me

Since this is a protein supplement, naturally the first place in the ingredients is the protein source in the form of whey isolate. Whey isolate is generally regarded as one of the best quality protein sources everHowever, I am disappointed because the manufacturer does not state how the whey has been processed. Presumably it is CFM (quite common these days), but there is no guarantee anywhere that this is actually the case.
This mysterious whey isolate in the protein is only 50%, the other 50% is supplemented by an equally high quality whey hydrolysate, which of course we know absolutely nothing about. The manufacturer does not state what degree of hydrolysis the whey has, nor whether or not it is a branded whey protein raw material. Therefore, I have no choice but to think again of the worst (for the manufacturer the cheapest) option and I would guess that the degree of hydrolysiscould be roughly DH4, which is practically identical to classic whey isolate and there is little difference in the absorption rate.
Another big minus is the fact that the manufacturer doesn't list the amino acid spectrum of the protein, which again brings doubt to the Mutant brand itself and the quality of their raw materials. Dále se v proteinu nacházejí složky jako je přidaná kyselina askorbová, slunečlecithin, salt or potassium citrate, which I do not consider a negative. These are only ingredients that ensure the correct taste and consistency of the product. Guar gum, which is a natural gluten-free fibre, has been used to thickenwhich is generally used in health food for thickening. It is completely harmless to the body. On the contrary, it even has health-promoting properties and properties that support the health of the human digestive tract and microbiome.

The manufacturer states the use of both artificial and natural flavours, which is a considerable plus, becausenowadays, the vast majority of brands still use only artificial flavours. Here, at least, this is minimised by a certain blend of the two ingredients.Last but not least, the protein contains fractionated coconut oil, which is a source of medium-chain triglycerides (fatty acids), or MCT fats. This means that they behave quite differently in the body than the regular type of fat. Medium-chain triglycerides can be used as an instant source of energy (similar to carbohydrates), which is advantageous for example before or after exercise. Thanks to this property, they do not burden the digestive tract.

The protein is sweetened with sucralose and added stevia. I don't know how much stevia was used in the sweetening process, but its use is already a huge advantage in my eyes. While I don't believe in the side effects of artificial sweeteners like sucralose, I'm definitely a proponent of the more natural onesvariants such as stevia, which has been shown to have a positive effect on digestion and the gut microbiome, even on a person's insulin sensitivity. These are huge benefits for me and I hope that manufacturers will reach for stevia in the future.

Lastly, the digestive enzymes lactase and protease are added to the protein to ensureensure maximum utilisation and digestibility of all the proteins and other substances contained.

Perfect nutritional values that will please everyone

The manufacturer lists a total of 355 kcal per 100g of product, which is a really nice number that will pleaseThis is a very nice treat for anyone who watches their calorie intake (for example, in a diet).

There is an above-average 81g of protein per 100g, along with a minimal amount of carbohydrates and fats.

From these values, it is clear to me that the product is almost perfect for use in strict diets and in the pre-contest period.

Disappointment with the vanilla flavour

I received Iso Surge again from the Czech e-shop fitness007, the second time I received only one flavour. That's why we only have the vanilla variant, which I've broken down below. I believe that the protein would have tasted much better if I had the opportunity to try more variants, but unfortunately I didn't get that this time.

I was looking forward to giving Iso Surge a taste test, because everywhere on the No.Czech and foreign websites the protein is praised because of its unique taste. But immediately after tasting it, my great expectations dropped.
The taste of vanilla was there, but very little and most importantly it was literally average to below average. There was a slight aftertaste of vanilla on the tongue, but I would attribute that more to the very weak vanilla milk, which did not impress me in the slightest.
When I compare the flavour with the recently reviewed vanilla protein by Aleš Lamka, this one lags far behind it in terms of taste. On the other hand, the protein was pleasantly sweet and I believe some of the bigger vanilla lovers might like the protein. For me, the flavour is rather average and I give it a 5/10.

No foam, perfect solubility and digestibility of the product

As always, I followed the manufacturer's instructions in preparation, mixing 31g of protein in a shaker in only 180ml of water, which also ensured the drink was very sweet.

The resulting drink was slightly creamy and the foam was practically non-existent. The whole final shake was ready to consume immediately and I didn't have to wait for anything.

The digestibility was also top notch. Despite my sensitive digestion, I did not experience any indigestion at all, which I was really worried about, but I was pleasantly surprised.

The best time to use? Any time of day.

Since Mutant's Iso Surge contains whey isolate and whey hydrolysate, both of which are very quick and easy toabsorbed protein, the protein is definitely best suited for use in the immediate post-workout period.

However, I wouldn't be afraid to use protein at any time of the day to aid digestion. I do this myself by taking whey hydrolysates throughout thethroughout the day to ensure that I'm getting the most out of all the nutrients and not putting too much strain on my digestion.

If you plan to consume another solid meal after 4 hours or more, I would reach for a classic wheym concentrate, multi-ingredient protein or micellar casein, which after all will keep you fuller for longer.

The price matches the quality of the product

Iso Surge will first of all attract you with its low price, where you can buy the proteinYou can get it in a 2270g pack for 1279,- , where one dose will cost you only 17/18,- . If you wait for the right moment, for the right promotion, you can undoubtedly get the protein much cheaper and cheaper.

I have to say that I find protein suspiciously too cheap. Considering the many unknown ingredients that are in the formula, I wonder how Iso Surge is really doing.Personally, I probably wouldn't get it because I only look for the highest possible verificationbut the protein will definitely find its favourites, especially amongst regular exercisers. It isalso possible that we will see a price increase in the near future of this protein as well, because it is gradually happening in all Czech and international brands.

Final evaluation

So is it worth getting Iso Surge from Mutant? Yes, it's definitely worth it. For the price, it's undoubtedly something many people reach for every day and it's no wonder it's so well known and popular worldwide. As I mentioned before, I wouldn't get one myself because I don't know the real reasonIf you are a regular exerciser, you don't have to worry about such things and you can get the protein.

Unfortunately, I can't advise you what flavor is the most hilarious, but I definitely don't recommend taking vanilla for your first try, as it could quickly put you off. The overall feeling of the product is rather mixed, but to be honest I was expecting much worse, so in my eyes the Mutant brand has gone up a bit. I'm sure that of all the proteins offered by Mutant, this is indeed the best of the bunch.
