Reflex Micro Whey - One of the highest quality but most expensive isolates (Review)

Believe it or not, I have been waiting a very long time to test this protein. I know from available sources that it is the absolute top among protein products, and its price corresponds to that. I am therefore curious to know whether the product is really worth the price or whether it is rather an unnecessary investment.

So how did the protein stand up in our detailed review? Is the product worth the extra money? How did it hold up in our taste test? Would I buy this protein again? Find out that and much more in today's review.

The Reflex Nutrition brand originates from England and ranks among the best of the best in Europe. Therefore, I am almost certain that the quality of the ingredients used is at the best level. The manufacturer always tries to have the best quality products to which it gives extra added value. The Reflex brand is synonymous with quality for me nowadays, but let's get down to the review itself.

-

A product composition that is close to perfection

As the main protein source, the product contains native whey isolatewhich is processed using the most gentle CFM method, thanks to which it retains all its bioactive fractions and substances beneficial to the body Native rawwhey isolate is supplemented to a lesser extent with instantized whey isolate. The latter is also processed using the CFM method, so both protein components are of the best possible quality.

The protein contains a flavouring which is not specified. Therefore, we cannot clearly determine whether the flavouring is artificial or natural. However, the colours used in the product are all of natural origin.

Furthermore, Micro Whey from Reflex contains added digestive enzymes under the patented Digezyme brand. These digestive enzymes are here in ample amounts, namely 166 mg per 100 grams of product. They ensure perfect digestibility and bioavailability of the whole protein, for me it is definitely a great choice.

To make matters worse, the digestive enzymes are also supplemented with the probiotic culture Lactospore. Here, however, I'm quite skeptical, because the manufacturer doesn't indicate in what quantity the probiotics are present, nor to what extent they are active.

As the primary sweetening ingredient, the manufacturer has unfortunately chosen Acesulfame K, which is then supplemented to a lesser extent with the less objectionable sucralose. Personally, I see nothing wrong with Acesulfame either, but I must mention here that there is a long debate these days about the toxicity and carcinogenicity of Acesulfame as such. However, none of these studies have been confirmed, hence Acesulfame is so far labelled as a safe sweetener, so I would not be too worried about its consumption. Sucralose is a commonly used safe sweetener and is not a problem for the majority of the population.

Nutritional values of protein

At a glance, we can see that there is 85% protein in each flavour chosen, which is above average and hard to find in competitors. I also see it as a minor plus that the customer does not have to make a difficult choice betweenflavour depending on the amount of protein, but simply reaches for the one they feel like.

The other values we are interested in are carbohydrates and fats. As far as the latter is concerned, you won't find more than 0.7g of fat per 100g of product. Carbohydrates, on the other hand, range higher, from 7g to 5.6g per 100g of product, depending on the flavour chosen.

The manufacturer doesn't even give the specific amino acid spectrum of the protein in the product, which is quite a shame from my point of view, but in the backI have no doubt that the quality of the protein is at the best level.

Easy digestibility and solubility, but higher foaminess

I followed the manufacturer's instructions for preparation, mixing 30 grams of protein in 300 ml of water. First of all, I must mention that the solubility of the product is a bit lacking. In a shaker, you will have to shake the mixture for at least 15 seconds to dissolve it all. On the other hand, if you use a blender, the mixture will dissolve instantly, but it really foams up extremely. After careful shaking, the resulting drink is very watery and has a natural sweet aroma. After shaking, foam will also be produced, but to a much lesser extent.

When the protein is stirred into the porridge, the consistency is hardly disturbed at all. Since it is a native whey protein isolate, which contains a minimum of fat and carbohydrates, the digestibility and biological The digestibility and bioavailability of the product is unrivalled, which is also helped by the Digezyme digestive enzymes mentioned above.

When preparing a protein shake in a blender be careful with high foaminess, I recommend for example to throw in a banana or other fruit to prevent this.

The most successful flavor? Definitely banana.

Many readers are no doubt wondering what the protein actually tastes like. The only flavor we didn't try is strawberry, however all the others turned out very well. A more detailed breakdown of the flavours can be found below.

The last thing that remains to be said is that in my opinion, this protein is not bought for thefor its taste, but for its exceptional quality, exceptional properties and purity. Therefore, during the testing I did not make any exaggerated demands on the taste, as is usually the case with other proteins.

  • Chocolate (9/10), with chocolate you will never make a mistake. If you're not sure which direction to go, chocolate is always a safe bet. And I have to say, it didn't disappoint. The protein is pleasantly sweet and feels completely natural. Dark chocolate lovers will definitely be disappointed, but granola lovers will be delighted. If you want a more intense flavour, add less water. I also recommend mixing the chocolate flavour with the vanilla flavour, your protein shake will take on a whole new dimension.
  • Vanilla (9/10) is another safe bet. Again, I have to say that the taste during consumption was completely natural and just sweet enough. After opening the whole packet, there is a noticeable vanilla scent that makes you crave for it. For me, this is a hilarious authentic vanilla flavour that the manufacturer has tuned to perfection. But on the other hand, you must not expect any flavor that will make you sit on your butt. You have to take into account that this is a whey isolate with a higher amount of protein, so the taste will not be what you might be used to.
  • Banana (9.5/10) will be a great choice for most of you. The completely unadulterated and rich banana flavor is exactly what I've come to expect from a protein like this. However, I had to get the ratio of protein to water right, because once you overdo it with the water, the final shake will be very watery and the banana flavour will not be very noticeable. Such a protein is not worth much. On the other hand, when mixed with chocolate protein in oatmeal you get a great combination that you will love. Overall, I have nothing to complain about the banana flavour and recommend it with all ten.

Don't be afraid to mix the flavours together. We have found the banana/chocolate or chocolate/vanilla to be very good.

When is the best time to take Micro Whey?

As Micro Whey from Reflex contains almost instantly absorbable protein, it is therefore best suited for use immediately after training.

You can also use it at any time of the day in porridges, yogurts or other sweet recipes. However, if you're using it in place of a meal, I recommend adding some fat to it, such as in the form of peanut butter, to keep you fuller for longer.

Last but not least, I must mention again that it is not recommended to cook the protein in any way, as this will destroy all the the health benefits found within the protein, as well as the added digestive enzymes and probiotics.

Our tip
Protein by itself does not fill you up. If you take it immediately after your workout, you can consume a solid meal within an hour without any problem. As a snack, however, I would recommend a different option.

The unnecessarily high price of protein

You can only get the protein in one big pack of 2270 grams, which comes out to without any discount. In this case, one dose will cost you , which is a much higher price than we are used to compared to the competition .

If I compare it with Isoprime CFM from Amix, here one dose will cost you . Which I think is already a more acceptable price. However, with Amix you will not find a native whey ingredient, but only an instant whey ingredient. From my point of view this is not a big minus, but I had to mention it. Digestive enzymes are also found in the protein. You can find a review of this protein at this link.

I will allow myself one more comparison with the native whey isolate BiotechUSA Iso Whey Zero. The quality of the protein used is exactly the same as Reflex, the only difference is the absence of digestive enzymes and more ballast substances in the composition. Here the price for one dose comes out to , which is already a dramatic difference. You can read a more detailed review of the protein here.

Final review

So is Micro Whey from Reflex worth investing in? Unfortunately, I have to say that rather no. To my taste, for such a hefty premium, the protein does not provide any extra benefits over competing proteins. For much better money you can get the same quality protein with the same effects and usability.

But don't get me wrong, Micro Whey is an absolutely great protein that I have been very happy with. I'm glad I had the opportunity to try such a top-notch protein, but if I had to choose again, I'd rather reach for a cheaper option.

The overall feeling of the protein is very positive, if the protein didn't cost so much money I would rate it ten out of ten, but atFor those of you who don't mind paying extra, Micro Whey will be the best choice for you.
