Although we have prepared countless whey protein reviews for you in the past, due to their popularity and large we're always trying to come up with new and exciting product reviews. So today we're going to take a look at SmartFuel 100% Whey Protein, which is garnering a lot of positive feedback from all directions. It is a standard whey concentrate available in a total of 12 flavours, the main advantage of which is supposed to be the perfect price/quality ratio. How does it compare to the competition? And is it worth preferring over the long-established proteins on the market? All this and much more can be found in our review today.
Content of the review
If you haven't heard of SmartFuel, you're making a big mistake. Behind this manufacturer is the online store Fitness007, which has a lot of experience in selling sports supplements. In addition to whey protein, the SmartFuel brand also has excellent SmartFuel Protein bars (review) in its repertoire.
Simple but effective formula
SmartFuel 100% Whey Protein is a whey concentrate containing about 73 g of protein per 100 g of product (varies depending on the flavour). In addition to the protein component, the digestive enzymes bromelain and papain and some sweeteners or colourings can also be found in the formula, depending on the flavour. On the positive side, the additive content is very low and often even natural (beetroot dye, cocoa, cinnamon). On the other hand, there are no controversial substances that would detract from the overall impression. The fact that the milk used to produce the protein comes from free-range cows is also to be commended, which has a positive impact on its quality. Of course, it is also produced using the gentle CFM method, thanks to which all the bioactive components of the protein are preserved.
One serving (30 g) of chocolate flavour contains 113 kcal, 21.9 g of protein, 2.2 g of carbohydrates and 1.8 g of fat. At the same time, we must mention the 50 mg of bromelain and 10 mg of papain in each dose. The nutritional values and the composition as such must therefore be evaluated positively.
Expect a creamy consistency
One serving represents the standard 30 grams, which in this case means two aligned scoops. When you mix this amount in 250ml of water as recommended by the manufacturer, you can look forward to a surprisingly thick protein with a creamy consistency. I'll admit that I'm personally a fan of proteins like this and like them a bit better than the ones with a thin consistency. But of course, this may not be true for all. In terms of solubility or over-foaming, I haven't noticed any problem with this protein. A one-pound packet will last you 33 servings if you follow the recommended dosage, which is perfectly fine in my opinion.
The sponge cake flavour will get you going!
For the purposes of this review, we tried the sponge cake flavor because it is clearly the most original flavor. However, if you're more of a fan of something more conservative, you'll have no problem choosing from the other 11 flavours.
The first thing you notice when you open the protein is the pleasant aromawhich is surprisingly accurate to the smell of sponge cake. The taste is a bit reminiscent of regular vanilla protein, but at the same time there is something extra. This flavour is quite hard to describe, but I have to say that I was really impressed by it. It's not unnecessarily over-sweetened and at the same time it doesn't taste artificial at all. Considering that a similar flavour could easily taste much worse in real life, I am really happy with the taste of the protein.
A price that is almost unrivalled
If there's one thing that SmartFuel 100% Whey Protein really beats the competition on, it's definitely the price/quality ratio. In fact, one serving of this protein comes out significantly cheaper than most competing products. Of course, the lower price is to some extent related to the slightly weaker composition, but in terms of quality SmartFuel whey concentrate still performs very well. While we could fault it for containing a little less protein and for not having any added probiotics, ultimately it doesn't matter anyway. For the vast majority of athletes, its composition is quite adequate and, given its very low price, there is simply nothing to fault it for.
Final summary
SmartFuel 100% Whey Protein combines a very high quality formula with an extremely competitive price. As a result, it offers a perfect price/quality ratio, which in my opinion is the most important factor when choosing supplements. Moreover, it is available in 12 flavours, so you can easily choose the variant that suits you best. Personally, I must also praise the pleasant creamy consistency, which excited me even a little more than the taste itself. However, I also have to praise it once again. As a result, we have no choice but to rate SmartFuel 100% Whey Protein as excellent.
