Ales Lamka certainly needs no introduction. He is one of the most famous Czech fitness trainers and nowadays I can say that even bodybuilders. Everything he has today, he has achieved mainly thanks to his high popularity on YouTube and other social networks.and I am extremely happy that I got my hands on his most popular, most praised protein he offers. Yes, it is his DH32 grade hydrolysate.
I know that we don't have many reviews of whey hydrolysates on our site (if any) but I believe that will change soon, as I want to focus more on them in the future.
Content of the review
Before the actual review begins, I have to say that I initially had a big apprehensive because usually when a celebrity releases dietary supplements under hisunder his own name, supplements that he sells and makes money fromall objectivity ends and you're not sure what to really believe.
But that is why we are here, to bring an objective view of the quality and functionality of things, and I can already say that Ales Lamka did not disappoint and really surprised me.
But enough of the introductory words, let's get down to the review itself.
Average composition using a special mixture of sweeteners
As the name of the protein suggests, the main and only protein source here is hydrolyzed whey protein concentrate with a hydrolysis degree of DH32.
What does hydrolysis with DH32 grade mean?
Simply put, hydrolysis equates to the cleavage (pre-digestion) of the protein, making it the protein becomes much more usable by the body because it is not necessary for the protein to be digested. This allows it to enter the bloodstream (muscle) almost immediately, which is a huge advantage for many people looking to maximize recovery, anabolism, muscle tone, or even fat burning.
Thanks to this process, the protein also contains no lactose and should be perfectly digestible.
Furthermore, ingredients such as added table salt, citric acid or citrate are found in the protein. potassium, which are harmless to the body and do not interfere with the product. On the contrary, I appreciate the addition of potassium citrate (potassium) and salt, which can be very useful in the post-workout period.
Last but not least, apparently artificial flavours have been used in the product, as the manufacturer does not specify what they are. On the other hand, at least the colourings are in natural form, which I appreciate. Xanthan gum has been used to thicken it, which is a natural, body-beneficialthat even helps digestion and enriches our microbiome. So despite the exotic name, it is a very good and healthy ingredient, which also thickens the final drink a little.
The protein is sweetened with a very interesting combination of ingredients, which I have never seen anywhere before. Specifically, the use of artificial sweeteners sucralose, acesulfame K, saccharin and neohesperidin. Both sucralose and acesulfame are fairly well known ingredients to the public. My opinion is that you do not need to worry about either of these sweeteners in the slightest. They will be as safe as possible for the body in these doses and noany alleged side effects to worry about.
The same applies to the controversial sweetener saccharin, which is probably the worst of the four. But the same rule applies here, and that is that in such small quantities it does not pose the slightest risk to the human body. Neohesperidin is an artificial sweetener that you are probably hearing about for the first time. However, it is only a citrus fruit extract that has the main task of masking the bitterness of the protein. It's not harmful at all, so you never have anything to worry about with this product (or basically any other).
Confusing nutritional values
I have to say here that I was very confused at first. In fact, I'm still confused to this day because when I look at the nutritional values written on the manufacturer's official website and on the product itself, it says 399 kcal per 100g of product. However, when I calculate the number of proteins, carbohydrates, and fat that the product contains per 100g, it becomesI am very confused and would ask the manufacturer to set the record straight.Plus points of course to the manufacturer for full disclosure of the amino acid spectrum of the protein.
The vanilla was really delicious!
It is important to mention that whey protein with hydrolysis degree DH32 is mainly characterized by its bitter taste, which is specific for this type of raw material. Therefore, expect a vastly different experience when consuming it compared to the typical oversweetened proteins that most exercisers use. Some people love this bitterness, while others hate it.
I received the protein from the well-known Czech e-shop fitness007, where unfortunately I only received one flavor of protein and that was the vanilla flavor. Therefore, I am very sorry that I cannot describe the taste of all other variants here and I apologize for that.
The initial disappointment of having only one flavor wore off very quickly because the vanilla was absolutely divine. I believe Mr Lamka has fine-tuned all the other flavours to perfection, but I was really blown away with this one. I could detect a slight bitterness here, but if it didn't say on the packaging that it was a DH32 protein, I wouldn't have believed it at all. The typical bitterness of the product is almost perfectly masked, and I dare say that anyone can enjoy that protein (even those who don't like bitter). I was also surprised by the fact that I could actually detect vanilla undertones in the protein, which I couldn't get enough of. For me, the flavour is perfect and I give it 10/10.
Digestibility on one level, high foaminess and less solubility
I followed the manufacturer's instructions for preparation, I mixed 30g of protein in a shaker in 300ml of water. The resulting drink was slightly creamy, which is not usual for hydrolysates. This is probably due to the addition of xanthan gum.
I was disappointed that the resulting drink did indeed foam extremely and I had to wait several minutes before the foam fell off. The other big disappointment was that there was also a small amount of protein on the surface of the foam, which did not dissolve at all and I had to shake the drink all over again. I recommend using a blender during the preparation of the final drink so that the whole the mixture to dissolve reliably, but unfortunately this does not solve the problem of more foaminess.
At least the digestibility of the product was absolutely perfect, I did not experience any digestive discomfort and was ready to consume solid food calmly 20-30 minutes after the drink.
When is the best time to use protein?
The Hydro DH32 protein from Titanus contains very easily and lightning fast absorbed protein, so it is best suited for post-workout use.Of course, you can also use it at any time of the day for example in porridges, yoghurts or other sweet recipes, but it all depends on your digestive capacity.Since the product is already pre-digested, don't count on it to fill you up for a long time, I would use another protein based on micellar casein for this purpose.
I would recommend sticking to post-workout periods for this type of protein. At the same time, I would not exceed a dose of more than 30g otherwise you might end up creating a large pressure of immediately usable amino acids and some of them might not be used as you need them at that moment.
The price matches the quality of the product
At first glance, the hydrolyzed protein from Ales Lamka seems very expensive. It can be purchased in packs of 800g or 1600g, where you pay 1499,- for the protein in the higher variant.
It is true that the price reaches the highest rungs and I am sorry to say that we will have to get used to similar prices, becausesports nutrition and supplements are starting to get more expensive globally and I'm afraid this is just the beginning.
On the other hand, my opinion is that the price of 1499,- for a 1600g pack is absolutely adequate, because because itis a high quality protein source and a hydrolysate with the highest degree of hydrolysis. Simply put, you won't find a faster absorbing protein on the market. So if you want the best, this price won't put you off.
Final evaluation
So is it worth investing in Hydro DH32 from Titanus? That depends mostly on your goals, experience and expectations.
For example, for the average exerciser who doesn't have the slightest problem digesting lactoseThe hydrolysate is a completely unnecessary supplement and will do just fine with an ordinary whey concentrate.
On the other hand, if you are a competitor, a top professional athlete or have a problem with lactose digestion, hydrolysate will be the ideal choice for you and you will praise it. It is the advanced exercisers who will most appreciate the much better post-workout recovery that is really noticeable.
My overall feeling about the product is very positive, I have to say that Mr. Lamka pleasantly surprised me. I was expecting a stripped down protein that would taste bad and look good only to the eye, but I couldn't have been more wrong. This is truly top quality honed to near perfection. For myself, I definitely recommend the protein.
