Plant proteins as a source of protein

Vilgain Plant Protein Candy Bar is also suitable for vegans, as the name suggests. Therefore, neither whey nor milk protein could be used as a protein source. Instead, the manufacturer decided to use a combination of pea and rice protein. As is well known, plant proteins do not have the full spectrum of amino acids, which is also why they are not as high quality as whey protein. The combination of two types of plant proteins is therefore a good choice, as the two components complement each other and the bar therefore contains all 9 essential amino acids.

Don't overlook
Which protein to choose? We'll tell you the difference between whey protein and plant-based alternatives.

For vegans, it is therefore a very good source of protein. And although whey protein is more expensive in terms of the full spectrum of amino acids and different protein fractions, it is also more expensive in terms of thepea and rice protein can benefit all athletes, regardless of whether they are vegetarian or not. In fact, the protein bar certainly does not serve as the primary source of protein in the diet. As long as you get enough quality protein from animal sources during the day, it ultimately doesn't matter that you have a pea protein bar for a snack. So in this respect, I think there is nothing to criticise in principle. The protein content is 20% of the product, so there are 9 grams of protein in one bar. This is honestly not the most, as competing bars usually have a higher protein content.

The combination of two plant protein sources is definitely a good choice.

A solid formula, but one that has a few flaws

Currently, Vilgain Plant Protein Candy Bar is available in three flavors, which, while differing in some details in terms of composition, are written on the same foundation. The most represented ingredients in the formula are peanuts or hazelnuts (depending on the flavour) and dark chocolate. Both of these have a very positive effect on the final taste, as you can see that the manufacturer has really spared no expense in this respect. There are also dates and chicory fibre. Thanks to the high fibre content, the bar is filling for a longer period of time, which is a definite plus. In total, there are just under 6 grams of fiber in the bar, which is really decent (daily fiber intake should be around 30 grams). The ingredients as a whole aren't bad at all, although compared to products from ourour ranking of the best protein bars, it still falls a little short. This is mainly due to the high carbohydrate and fat content and the relatively low protein content.

The Prom-IN Pure Bar, for example, earned a perfect rating in our review.

Absolutely perfect taste

If there is one thing we have to praise, it is the taste of this bar. All three available flavours taste absolutely perfect and you definitely won't go wrong with any of them. All of them feature very strong nuts and dark chocolate, while none of the flavours are overly sweet. Let's take a closer look:

  • Salted Caramel flavour (9.5/10). However, if you like it, you will definitely be satisfied. The bar has the perfect consistency and there are quite a few chunks of nuts in it. It's not overly sweet, but at the same time, it's not overly salty either. The resulting taste is very mild and perfectly balanced. There is really nothing to criticise here.
  • Hazelnut flavour (9/10): This bar has the softest consistency of the three, and it also has the biggest chunks of hazelnuts. The dark chocolate is also prominent in flavour, but again it cannot be said that the bar is over-sweetened. Of the three flavours, this is clearly the least distinctive bar, which I don't think has a chance of offending anyone.
  • Peanut Butter flavour (9.5/10): the peanut butter flavour is the sweetest of the three. But even in this case, the bar is not overly sweet. On the contrary, it has a very mild taste, which is strongly dominated by the ubiquitous peanut pieces in addition to the chocolate. Again, there is nothing to fault and the bar tastes absolutely great.

In my review of the Vilgain Protein Bar, I praised the Vilgain brand for the fact that its bars always have a very mild taste and are not at all over-sweetened. I have to say the same thing again here. None of the flavours are artificial and there are pieces of nuts in each bar, which make the resulting taste even better. The excellent taste is undoubtedly the main advantage of Vilgain bars, which is reflected in their great popularity.

The salted caramel version tastes simply fabulous.

They are not among the cheapest

Given the excellent price, it probably won't surprise anyone that Vilgain Plant Protein Candy Bar is definitely not among the cheapest protein bars on the market. At the time of writing this review, you will pay 45 crowns for a 45 gram bar. Of course, it is possible to find more expensive products, but most competing bars cost more per gram.will be cheaper or at worst the same (an example of a cheaper bar is Biotech Zero Bar). Given that the composition of the bar is not overwhelming, it is quite questionable to what extent such a price is justified. On the other hand, it's fair to add that in terms of taste, few bars can match the Vilgain Plant Protein Candy Bar. Equally, it's worth noting that vegans are understandably quite limited in their choice and many of the cheaper bars are not suitable for them.

Conclusion.

So is the Vilgain Plant Protein Candy Bar worth investing in? If you're looking for a quality source of protein in the first place, and therefore care aboutthe nutritional value and composition of the product, it's probably not the best choice for you. If you're vegan, your choices are somewhat limited and this bar is therefore among the best you can find on the market. And if you're looking for a protein bar that you'll really enjoy, and don't mind that it doesn't have an ounce ofthe best nutritional values and that you'll pay a little extra for it, you'll definitely be satisfied.
