When you say protein, many people think of thick, creamy flavours and traditional flavours like vanilla or chocolate. But Clear Whey Isolate is not only a bit different in this respect. And in addition to being available in a very unconventional Lemon Splash variant, it also offers premium ingredients, hassle-free preparation and an amazing taste. So in this review, we'll take a closer look at it so you know what we (dis)liked about it and whether it's worth buying.
Content of the review
To begin with, Vilgain Clear Whey Isolate is one of the top ranked products in our ranking of the bests best isolates, so if you're interested in a comparison with the competition rather than a standalone review, check out the rankings. But now back to today's review.
Ingredients without a single flaw
Composition, as standard the most important aspect when choosing a suitable supplement, has Clear Whey Isolate without a single flaw. The base is whey protein isolate, which is further flavored with a steviol-glycoside-based sweetener, carotenes have been used for coloring and the product also contains citric acid, natural flavouring and silica, which has, for examplehas the lowest possible harmfulness score on the independent Fair Food website.
As a result, you can look forward to a product that is 85% protein, which is plenty even for isolate proportions. The whey comes from the Netherlands and you can rely on the fact that the product contains no genetically modified ingredients, nor any artificial flavours or colours. What's also great is that Vilgain is one of the few manufacturers that doesn't use sucralose, which is usually considered one of the most preferred artificial sweeteners, yet there are various studies showing possible adverse effects on the microbiome (although the subject is much more complex and the change in composition of the microbiome does not necessarily indicate anything bad, as the microbiome simply adapts to the food consumed). In any case, the use of only a plant-based sweetener based on steviol glycosides is, for us, a great step towards more natural products.
In addition, for those of you who are on a reduction diet, it can be a nice lower carbohydrate content and only the bare minimum of fat, which is low even by the standards of other isolates. Overall, we rate the composition as an A and have nothing to complain about.
Easy preparation and good solubility
Regarding the preparation and solubility of the product, some users have noted in reviews (also on the officialThe product does not dissolve very well. And frankly, it probably depends on which preparation method you use. We put our protein in a classic plastic shaker and its solubility was really without a single problem. However, if you want to try dissolving it in just a glass of water, of course, that might be more difficult. What we must highlight, however, is that apart from the trouble-free solubility, there is also zero foaming, as this product really doesn'talmost no foam and is therefore immediately drinkable after preparation.
How did we like Clear Whey Isolate?
For many people, taste is also a crucial aspect when choosing a supplement. And in the case of Clear Whey Isolate, we have to be honest and admit that we were pleasantly surprised. The product does not have the typical creamy consistency after mixing, but since it is, as the name suggests, clear whey, it is more like lemonade. In appearance, the Lemon Splash variant looks like lemon juice and smells and tastes, to be honest, quite similar. For us, this is a very interesting and refreshing product that may have a justification not only if you are looking for a change from the typical creamy proteins in classic flavours. In fact, Lemon Splash is ideal not only for summer, when it stands out perfectly if you serve it on ice cubes or perhaps with a little extra mint. Rather than a protein, it is a lemonade, but with a good portion of protein.
The price for a regular serving is quite high
Thus, the only negative we found with Clear Whey Isolate is the relatively high price, which of course may put some people off. In fact, at the time of writing this review, you will pay 649 crowns for a half-kilogram pack, which means that 100 grams of the product will cost 130 crowns. Since the manufacturer recommends using only 20 grams as a single dose, of course, the price per dose seems pleasant at first glance. However, such a dose has "only" 17.1 grams of protein, and since 20 grams corresponds to two-thirds of a scoop, it's a bit tempting to use the whole 30 gram dose. And in that case, one dose will cost you nearly 40 crowns, which is quite a lot compared to the competition. Of course, it depends primarily on your price options, but it is necessary to take into account that the amount ofThe price largely reflects the cost of the raw materials, which are first-class in this product.
Conclusion.
In conclusion, all that is left to say is that Vilgain Clear Whey Isolate is a great product that offers great ingredientsWith over 85% protein content, a flawlessly refreshing taste and easy preparation without any problems. Aside from the slightly higher price tag, it is the best product in its category and we definitely recommend giving it a try. Especially if you are tired of the classic creamy proteins available in the same flavours like vanilla or chocolate.
