Who doesn't have a sweet tooth from time to time? This is unavoidable, because even professional athletes are often "chased by the sweet tooth". Fortunately, nowadays it is not a problem to find plenty of alternatives to traditional sweets. Thanks to them, you can treat yourself to something good without having to beat yourself up for the rest of the day. Even on the shelves of regular supermarkets today, you can find various "eco", "organic" or "raw" sweets that taste great and help you to fight off sweet cravings, but at the same time have a very good quality composition and good nutritional values. However, not all products are as healthy as they claim to be, so it is always a good idea to read the ingredients carefully.

In today's review we will look at Vilgain Energy Bar BIO, which also belongs to the category of healthy sweets. Is it really as good as they say? Or is it also just a marketing ploy? And can one indulge in it without regrets? All the answers can be found below.
Minimalist ingredients
As mentioned in the introduction, a large number of products that look healthy on the outside actually contain the same amount of refined sugars, palm oil and other unhealthy substances as conventional sweets. Careful and adequate rigour is therefore needed when assessing the composition of these foods. Vilgain Energy Bar is sold in two flavours, the ingredients of which differ to a large extent, so we will break them down separately. The Cocoa Nibs and Almond flavour contains only 6 ingredients. The base of the bar is organic dates. Dates contain a high amount of simple carbohydrates, which provide the body with energy, and very important fibre. The latter in turn helps to make the bar feel fuller and slows down the absorption of sugar. Another important ingredient is roasted almonds. These add great flavour and also act as a source of unsaturated fatty acids. The rest of the ingredients are cocoa nibs, cocoa powder, cocoa paste and a pinch of salt. One bar contains 178 kcal, 10 g of fat, 15 g of carbohydrates, a full 6 g of fibre and 4.4 g of protein.
The Mulberry and Vanilla flavour is also based on dates, but is also enriched with cashews, mulberries and ground vanilla. It therefore consists of only 4 ingredients, which is absolutely fantastic. This flavour contains 143 kcal, 5.6 g of fat, 20 g of carbohydrates, 2.4 g of fibre and 3 g of protein. Neither flavor contains any refined sugar or any other substances that have no place in a quality bar. All of the ingredients are sourced from organic farming and boast very high quality. Therefore, we have to rate the ingredients with an "A". Both bars contain only a few substances that are of high quality and make sense in the context of the entire composition. Due to the relatively high carbohydrate content, the bar is suitable for a quick energy replenishment, but at the same time it is able to fill you up for a longer period of time.
One is better than the other. Literally
How did we like both bars? This is a difficult question to answer unequivocally. The cocoa nibs and almond flavor was much better in my opinion. It has a very nice consistency and contains quite a few chunks of almonds. It's not over-sweetened at all, as the flavour is most pronounced in it is the cocoa, which has a pleasant bitter taste (very reminiscent of dark chocolate). The cocoa nibs are a big plus, of course, as they enhance the flavour. Overall, the cocoa nibs and almond flavour deserves a decent 9.5 out of ten.
On the other hand, the mulberry and vanilla flavour is much sweeter. It also has a much softer consistency and harbours fewer nutty bits. It is clearly dominated by mulberry, which overpowers the vanilla flavour a little too much for my taste. The latter, for a change, was barely perceptible in the bar at all. Compared to the first flavour, it is significantly sweeter, which may suit some people, but in this case I rate it more as a negative. Therefore, the mulberry and vanilla flavour earns a 7.5 out of 10.
Absolutely fair price
Energy bar prices can range quite widely. You can find plenty of cheaper but also more expensive alternatives to Vilgain Energy Bar. However, given its quality composition and the absence of any unnecessary additives, I consider this price to be absolutely fair. At the time of writing this review, one bar costs 29 crowns, which in my opinion is quite adequate. In this context, however, it is worth mentioning that one bar of Vilgain Energy Bar has only 40 grams, which is relatively small compared to competing products. In terms of price, Vilgain Energy Bar ranks rather higher than the other bars. price category, but I am still of the opinion that considering the quality of the ingredients, the resulting price is adequate.
Conclusion.
Vilgain Energy Bar BIO was, to be honest, a very pleasant surprise for me. The ingredients deserve the biggest praise, as the bar contains only a few ingredientsand all of them are high quality and from organic farming. Thanks to its high fibre content, it can also fill you up for quite a long time. As for the taste, the flavour of cocoa nibs and almond absolutely delighted me and I would highly recommend it to everyone. Considering that the price of the bar isn't unnecessarily overpriced, Vilgain Energy bar gets a really good rating from us.
