Unrivalled composition
Indulging in something sweet doesn't necessarily mean eating a lot of not-so-healthy ingredients. And Vilgain's flapjacks are proof of that. It probably won't surprise you that their base is gluten-free oatmeal. These are enriched with blanched almonds, coconut syrup, gluten-free oat flour, chicory fibre, butterfat, roasted almonds and, inIn the case of the variant we were given to try, we also had freeze-dried raspberries and yoghurt powder. And although all the flapjacks have slightly different ingredients, each one has the ingredients thought out to the last detail. We must appreciate, for example, that they contain 9 to 11 grams of fibre, are sweetened only with natural sweeteners and are made up of gluten-free oatmeal. The ingredients are great and we have nothing to complain about - it's just good to remember thatthat it is a rather calorific bar, containing well over 300 kcal per serving. If you are on a reduction diet, you need to watch your calorie intake, which we have also covered in detail in our article on calorie deficit.
Practical on-the-go packaging
One of the things that surprised us about this bar was definitely the small and very compact packaging. While the earlier version was slightly larger, this time the aforementioned 300 kilocalories are packed into a very small sizeso it's no problem to pack the bars as a snack for a hike or to carry them in the car in case you get hungry on the road. Although the bar is small in size, we were surprised at how filling it is, as you really won't be hungry for quite a long time after eating it. Both of these features thus make the Vilgain Flapjack the perfect travel companion and we definitely recommend it.
How does the bar taste?
When it comes to the taste of this flapjack, we have to appreciate that it tastes completely natural. At first bite, you may find the bar to be quite hard and crumbly, but it's nothing that you can't get used to. Although the consistency is slightly dry, taste-wise we have nothing to complain about at all. The freeze-dried raspberries make a really great combination with the gluten-free oatmeal and roasted almonds, which also fill you up for a really long time. Unlike some supermarket bars, there are absolutely no artificial smells or unnecessary extra fats.
What do we say about the price?
Vilgain Flapjack is currently sold in six different flavours, with most of them costing 39 crowns, but for exampleThe Pecan/White Chocolate variant costs 59 crowns (it should be noted that it is slightly larger than some of the other bars). Of course, if you decide to compare this bar with commercial supermarket sweets, it may seem ridiculously expensive. But when you consider that this is a de facto full-fat snack that is made from honest (and financiallymore cost-effective ingredients, the price is actually not bad at all. And if you plan to dine on the Adventure Menu we reviewed somewhere on your hike, for example, this bar will be perfectly adequate as an afternoon snack. And in that case, we find the price very pleasant.
Final evaluation
When it comes to the Vilgain Flapjack, we actually have nothing to fault it at all. The composition is unbeatable and contains no unnecessary ingredients, the taste is completely natural and the bar fills you up for a really long time. And when you add to that the actually quite pleasant price, you get a product that is definitely worth a try.
