Granola is a popular and nutritionally rich snack that many people love for its great taste and ease of preparation. Simply add to yogurt, for example, and you can enjoy a crunchy symphony of flavours reminiscent of regular muesli, but the baking process makes it much crispier, which is why it is gaining more and more fans. However, the granola you buy in a regular supermarket in most cases contains unnecessarily too much sugar and doesn't have the best ingredients.
However, the Vilgain brand offers its own granola, which boasts a great composition and much better nutritional values. We've had the opportunity to try it out, and so in today's review we're going to take a look at Vilgain Plant Protein Granola, a vegan and protein version of the regular granola. How did we like it? Does it really have such a high quality composition? And how does it compare to other Vilgain granolas?
Content of the review
In addition to regular supplements, the Vilgain brand also offers a large variety of healthy foods that can be a quick and easy snack. You can see for yourself in our review of Vilgain Plant Protein Candy Bar or in our review of Vilgain Hazelnut Cocoa Spread.
Great ingredients without unnecessary additives
The right granola can consist of a mix of oats, nuts, dried fruit, chocolate chips or even poppy seeds or cinnamon. Ideally, there will be no added sugar or unnecessary additives. Vilgain Plant Protein Granola fulfils all this and offers a very high quality and fine-tuned formula. The basis of all three available flavours is pea protein crisps consisting of pea protein and tapioca starch. Pea protein is one of the best plant sources of protein, however, it contains very little of the amino acid methionine on its own. For this reason, it is advisable to combine it with rice protein, which in turn contains this amino acid in sufficient quantities. This is a minor deficiency, but since granola is not intended to be the primary source of protein in the diet, it is not a disaster.
The rest of the ingredients depend on what flavor it is. The coconut, chocolate and nut option also contains coconut syrup, roasted almonds, gluten-free oatmeal, noGrated coconut, coconut slices, coconut cream and sprouted quinoa flakes. There are 504 kcal, 20 g protein, 37 g carbohydrates (17 g sugar) and 29 g fat in 100 grams of the product. Compared to Vilgain's other types of granola (regular and protein granola), the vegan version of protein granola performs very well in terms of nutritional value. However, it has to be said that the other two flavours have slightly worse nutritional values.
As such, we rate the ingredients as excellent, as there are no unnecessary or added artificial flavours or sweeteners. All the ingredients are of very high quality and their combination with each other makes sense from a nutritional point of view.
A crunchy treat
When you open Vilgain's plant-based protein granola, you will smell the surprisingly distinct and sweet aroma of coconut. The taste itself, however, is not so sweet. The nuts are the most prominent flavour, while the chocolate is much less noticeable (especially when combined with yoghurt). Personally, I'm not a fan of overly sweet foods, so I didn't mind it at all, however, if youyou're hoping for a really strong chocolate flavour, you'll probably be a little disappointed. The consistency of the granola is absolutely perfect though, as unlike most competing products, it's crunchy without being unnecessarily hard. It is therefore very good to eat and I really have nothing to complain about in this respect.
Fair price
If anything spoils the overall impression of this product, it's the price. In fact, compared to competing products, Vilgain Plant Protein Granola comes out quite expensive. However, when evaluating the price, one must also take into account the ingredients used and the overall quality. When we compare Vilgain's granola with similar quality products, the price does not seem so high. The price/quality ratio is therefore very good in my opinion, although it is true that you can find slightly cheaper alternatives among similar quality products. On the other hand, if you are looking for a quality granola that is also vegan and lactose-free, Vilgain Plant Protein Granola is basically unrivalled.
Final assessment
Vilgain Plant Protein Granola offers not only a great taste and a crunchy consistency, but also excellent ingredients and all quality ingredients. If you want to enjoy a really high quality granola, I can highly recommend it. A slight disadvantage may be the price, which is quite high, but nevertheless I think it's fair considering the ingredients and the ingredients used. Ultimately, therefore, Vilgain Plant Protein Granola earns an excellent rating from us.
