Xiaomi Airdots Pro - Cheap Wireless Headphones (Review)

Today we will introduce the Xiaomi AirDots Pro wireless headphones. This is a new product on the market that has been out for practically only a few weeks. The advantage is that the headphones offer interesting parameters, moreover, at a price that no one else on the market offers.

This is one of the advantages that Xiaomi offers. There are two versions to get - one is the Pro, the one we're going to introduce today, and the other is the classic version. We'll talk a little bit about it at the end of the review.

Sound quality

I tested the sound quality of the headphones via the Spotify premium app, where I can set the highest sound quality. This makes it possible to test the headphones in maximum conditions. In order to get really good sound quality out of them, you need to play around with the equalizer a bit. But if you can do that, you'll get really high quality surround sound and clear highs. As such, I would see the sound rating as a nine out of ten.

The sound is compressed using the AAC codec. This is sufficient, although there are headphones on the market with better codecs. However, these are also significantly more expensive, so it is not surprising that Xiaomi preferred to reach for this variant, which is actually sufficient. You will then get the most ideal sound if you have the volume on your phone set somewhere around 60-70%. At higher volumes, it's then not quite right.

Important advantages/disadvantages

What could be faulted with the headphones is the slightly longer response time. In the case of listening to music, it doesn't matter, but if you were watching a video, for example, the sound won't fit with the plot of the video. Here, the longer response is actually very noticeable and very distracting. The headphones themselves are quite large, but they fit well in the ear. They were also tested during sports and did not fall out of the ears. IPX4 certification, which guarantees sweat resistance, makes them perfect for sports. They are also partially waterproof. Basically, if you splash them, nothing should happen to them. I'd be worried about them getting wet, though.

What didn't work so well was the design of the box, which also doubles as a charging station. The one LED that indicates the charge level is totally insufficient. Although you know that you have some energy in there, you have no idea whether it's fifty, thirty or one hundred percent. Similarly, the box has the wrong centre of gravity, so if it's empty and it's open, it tips over.

The headphones alone can play music for about three hours. The charging dock has a 100 mAh capacity, which is enough for about three charges of the headphones. So you can get up to nine hours of music. A big plus is that the dock has USB-C, so it takes about an hour to fully charge. That's enough in itself. The headphones are very easy to use, so Xiaomi has a lot to brag about in this regard.

The headphones should also have ambient noise cancellation features . Unfortunately, the result of this feature is not very audible, so it practically doesn't matter if you have this feature on or not. It's a shame, it would definitely come in handy to actually have the feature working sometime. The skip song feature is also missing. While you can skip it using Google Assistant, it's not exactly ideal control.

Connectivity and connection speed

What's definitely great is the transfer speed and fast pairing. The headphones in the box pair first, once you take them out they automatically connect to your phone and you can start listening to music. You can pair the headphones with both Android and iOS. There is also a microphone present on the headphones, which allows you to make calls as well. The sound is clear and noise-free.

I mentioned that there are two versions of the headphones. The classic version is a thousand crowns cheaper, it also has a weaker battery. But ironically they have a better box design and even Bluetooth 5.0, the Pro version only has Bluetooth 4.2. The price performance ratio is definitely better than the Pro version.
