Carotenes are substances from the carotenoid group of dyes, the most common and best known of which is beta carotene. It is an important precursor of vitamin A, which contributes to the maintenance of normal vision, skin and immunity. Beta carotene is biochemically converted in the body and only to the extent that the body needs it, the rest is safely eliminated. There is therefore no risk of overdose as with vitamin A. It does not contain sugar or colouring agents. It is suitable for diabetics.
Carotenoids are substances that are mainly found in fruits and vegetables and give them their typical yellow and orange colouring. The richest sources of beta carotene are carrots, apricots, tomato, mango, peaches, spinach, broccoli or peppers. Carotenoids are also found in animal sources, e.g. they give colour to egg yolk, butter or salmon meat.
Beta carotene is a natural source of vitamin A. It is recommended to take it in combination with selenium and vitamin E.
6 mg?=?10,000 IU of beta carotene in one soft gelatin capsule. Taking beta carotene is very important not only in summer but also before winter holidays. While water reflects 25% of the UV rays that reach the directradiation, snow reflects up to 80%.
