Detailed comparison of anti-blue light glasses
The imaginary title of the best goggles against blue light goes to the Victor Bluecut 580 from Infield. These block 100% of all blue light and, thanks to their design, also prevent ambient light from reaching the eyes other than through specially treated lenses.
Benefits:
- Block 100% of blue light
- Comfortable
- Also blocks green light
Disadvantages:
- Relatively high price
Who makes them:
Infield Safety specializes in manufacturing protective eyewear designed primarily for the workplace. They also think about people working in offices who are exposed to blue light from their computer screens for long hours. That is why the company's offer includes blue light protection glasses. Infield Safety products are known for their high quality, which is of course the most important criterion for the customer.
Victor Bluecut 580 are goggles designed to be worn about 2 hours before going to bed. This is the time when it is best to avoid blue light altogether, which these goggles can do very well. So in practice, you'll mainly wear them at home when watching TV or surfing the internet in the evening. They are not very suitable for wearing outdoors because of their strong tint, which is necessary to filter out 100% of blue light. The same goes for working late in the evening, when the red tint of the glasses can cause problems.
Final assessment:
Glasses with 100% blue light blocking are absolutely great for promoting natural melatonin release and subsequent sleep improvement. Of course, the disadvantage is the very strong red tint. The better the quality of the glasses, the more this statement applies to them. In the case of the Victor Bluecut 580, this is indeed the case. If you are looking for glasses that you will really only wear at home before bedtime, you won't complain. They filter the light really well, plus they're comfortable, so you'll forget about them after a while. It can be hard to get used to seeing everything around you in red at first, but after a while you don't even find it anymore. The problem may arise when you need to distinguish the different colours well. This can largely spoil the experience of watching movies or TV shows, as you'll be partially deprived of picture quality. As for the resulting effect on sleep, we have nothing to criticise. The downside of these glasses is their high price, but given the quality of the design, they are really worth investing in.
Another representative of very high quality and above all functional glasses blocking 100% of blue light are the Tron glasses from BrainMax. These are eye-catching at first glance because they are very robust and coloured red throughout. Although the design is more like protective goggles, their effect cannot be denied.
Advantages:
- They block 100% of blue light
- Can be worn under dioptric glasses
- Works great
Disadvantages:
- They look more like safety glasses
Who makes them:
BrainMax is a company focused on producing nutritional supplements that support brain performance and proper functioning of the human body. However, it also has a very wide range of blue light protection glasses in its repertoire. The vast majority of the products in this ladder come from this company.because it offers all possible variants suitable for wearing in every situation.
The Tron model falls into the category of 100% blue light blocking goggles, and the instructions on how to use them reflect this. They should be worn about an hour and a half before bedtime. I honestly can't imagine a situation in which I would ever put these glasses on during the day, let alone in public. But in the evening one can appreciate their perfect functionality. They may temporarily take the colour variety out of your life, but in return they help you get a really good night's sleep. And that's what it's all about.
Final assessment:
If you're looking for a pair of glasses that will erase the blue from your vision for good, you'll be happy with your Tron glasses purchase. Personally, however, I'd go for a different option, such as the aforementioned Victor Bluecut 580 from Infield, primarily for comfort. The Tron, on the other hand, comes out slightly better in price and also allows people with dioptric glasses to keep them on. It should be noted that in such a case there will be a quite noticeable decrease in comfort and for some glasses this may not even be possible at all. You must therefore weigh up all the positives and negatives and decide for yourself which aspect is the key for you. In either case, however, you will be happy with the effect the glasses have on your sleep.
Next up, we have glasses from 3M. Like the previous models, these goggles block 100% of blue light and above allthey're designed so that no light can enter the eye around the lenses. As a result, they work perfectly and ensure a truly deep sleep.
Benefits:
- Block 100% of blue light
- Significantly improve sleep quality
- Very good price
Disadvantages:
- A bit flimsier construction
Who makes them:
3M's history dates back to 1902. This company is involved in the development and manufacture of auto components, electronic equipment, and protective work gear, among other things. Of course, the range also includes blue light goggles. 3M has built a very strong market position over the years and its products are of course known for their high quality.
For best effect, the manufacturer recommends wearing the glasses at least 2 hours before going to bed, which corresponds to the instructions of the manufacturers of other glasses with 100% blue light filter. Again, here the glasses distort the real colors in the surroundings, so they can complicate the work of people who need to distinguish colors reliably. However, unless you work late in the evening, you won't have a problem wearing them.
Final assessment:
The main advantage of the 3M glasses compared to previous models is the very reasonable price. However, at the expense of good affordability, the glasses are a little less comfortable and their design overall looks a little more flimsy. However, this is not a major issue and they perform their function more than well. The design is a bit futuristic, but the look is not very important after all, as they are intended to be worn primarily in the home. Ultimately, we can therefore highly recommend them.
The next place was taken by BrainMax's Cover glasses. Their biggest advantages are the blocking of 100% blue light through tinted lenses and a visorany ambient light rays through the extended frame. Moreover, they are priced at quite affordable values, so they are sure to attract a large number of customers.
Advantages:
- Block 100% of blue light
- Very comfortable
- Low price
Disadvantages:
- There are better quality options
As we already know, 100% blue light filtering glasses are suitable for moreer wear in the home, ideally for about an hour and a half to two hours before bedtime. The advantage of the Cover model is that you will forget about them after wearing them for a while, which is mainly due to their lightness. Otherwise, the same applies to them as we have encountered with other models of this type: they help you get a better night's sleep, but once you put them on, you completely erase the blue colour from your field of vision. But it's a tax that's worth the price of a good night's sleep.
Final assessment:
If you're looking for a pair of glasses that block out 100% of blue light but don't break the bank, you'll be perfectly happy with the Cover. The combination of comfort and great price will certainly be a big draw for many customers. It's true, though, that the products higher up on this list do perform a little better. To be fair, we have to add that any differences really aren't that significant.
Next on our list is the Dayworker glasses from BrainMax. What caught our eye? Primarily because they are suitable for use during the day, especially if you work at a computer. Of course, this is also related to the higher blue light transmission, but this is compensated by better visibility.
Advantages:
- They can be worn all day during work
- Relieves eye pain
- Stylish design
Disadvantages:
- Block "only" 25% of blue light
As the name suggests, the Dayworker model is made for everyday work at the computer. So it will serve you primarily to effectively limit the amount of blue light your eyes are exposed to during the day. In order to function properly during the day, a person needs to see colours normally, soyou simply can't put on glasses that make everything look red. This is of course not the case with the Dayworker model, so they are absolutely ideal for normal work.
Final assessment:
The Dayworker model is quite different from the previous ones. It's not designed to block out all blue light, but to make it easier to work at the screen all day. And it does that perfectly well. Considering that I personally spend more hours than I should on the computer for study and work, I really appreciated something like this. However, you shouldn't expect that when you put them on in the evening, they will have the same effect on your sleep as the Victor Bluecut 580 or Tron models. The manufacturer itself recommends replacing the Dayworker with other glasses that block at least 65% of blue light in the evening. But if you're looking for glasses that you can wear all day without any problems, you've found the right one.
The next place was taken by BrainMax's Intelligent glasses. They can block up to 40% of blue light, which is especially appreciated by people working at a computer or, for example, computer game players.
Benefits:
- Suitable for computer work
- Help prevent eye and headaches
- Comfortable
Disadvantages:
- Affect color perception a bit
The Intelligent glasses are kind of like a more efficient friend of the Dayworker model. That's why they are suitable to wear during the day while working at the computer. However, their strength is also their disadvantage. They do block 40% of blue light, but this has a negative effect on how they distort the surrounding colours. The lenses of these glasses are already noticeably tinted, and while they won't block out the blue shades completely, they will limit them considerably. This is to your advantage in a situation where your main concern is to limit blue light as much as possible. However, if for some reason you need to be able to distinguish colours well, or simply don't want to look at the world in a yellowish tint all day, this will be more of a nuisance.
Final assessment:
The main disadvantage of Intelignet glasses is that they simply won't suit everyone. It's a bit of a compromise between glasses that are supposed to protect you from blue light as much as possible and ones that you can wear comfortably all day. In most cases you get used to the yellow tinted look, but for some people it can be a problem. In that case, they may recommend the Dayworker model, which I personally find better for all-day work.
Next up we have the Standard glasses, again from BrainMax. These are 85% blue light blocking glasses, so they are designed primarily for evening wear. Their advantage is that they don't distort the colour shades as much as the glasses at the top of our ranking, however, this goes hand in hand with a weaker effect.
Advantages:
- Block 85% of blue light
- Effective in helping to improve sleep quality
- Allow at least partial perception of colour shades
Disadvantages:
- There are more effective glasses
Glasses that block 85% of blue light are suitable for evening wear, and should be used primarily 2 hours before going to bed. Their big advantage is that they allow a person to retain at least some of their sense of blue, which is a big plus if, for example, you watch movies or TV shows. Of course, this means less protection from blue light. It should be noted, however, that blocking 85% of blue light is indeed enough. It is not 100% protection, as in the case of some other glasses, but even so, one will quickly feel the improvement in the quality of sleep.
Final assessment:
The problem with glasses that block 100% of blue light is the really strong tinting of the lenses, which means that in practice people see everything red. The 85% blocking is at least a partial compromise. You can see a little better through them, although it should be noted that strong red colouration is unavoidable even in this case. It therefore depends on your preferences. If you're after maximum results, you'll want to choose one of the glasses at the top of our list. But if you don't want a 100% effect and want to be able to recognise individual colours as well as possible, the Standard model is the ideal choice for you.
The next place was taken by Blackframe glasses from BrainMax. This model can block up to 65% of blue light, placing it on the borderline of glasses with weakm filter suitable for daytime wear and the really high-efficiency ones that are meant to be worn in the evening. For whom is this compromise suitable?
Advantages:
- Block up to 65% of blue light
- Can be worn for longer periods of time
- Very good price
Disadvantages:
- They are quite weak for evening wear
The Blackfraim model is sort of a compromise between glasses you can wear during the day at work, and glassesglasses that you put on at bedtime because they block out almost all blue light. The manufacturer states that they are meant to be worn 2 hours before sleep, however for these purposes, I would recommend choosing glasses that block at least 85% of blue light. Otherwise, the resulting effect will not be as strong. However, for all-day wear, these glasses are definitely not suitable, as they distort the perception of the surrounding colours considerably. Their usefulness is therefore relatively limited. They can be useful if you are working on the computer in the evening, for example, and need to distinguish colours. In this case, this compromise may be suitable for you, but for most people, other glasses will be more suitable.
Final assessment:
BrainMax's Blackfraim glasses are suitable for someone who is looking for a compromise between efficiency and maintaining the ability to distinguish colours. If you're looking for glasses designed strictly for daytime wear or, conversely, to block out as much blue light as possible in the evening, these are definitely not for you. But if, for example, you play games in the evenings and it's unthinkable for you to see everything red, you'll probably be happy with them.
The next rung belongs to BrainMax's Greenhorn model, which blocks 100% of blue light. Compared to the goggles at the top of our ranking, which also block 100% of blue light, they have several advantages and disadvantages.
Pros:
- Block up to 100% of blue light
- Very effective
- Comfortable
Disadvantages:
- High price
- Light transmission from the sides
The BrainMax Greenhorn is a pair of glasses designed to be worn about 2 hours before bedtime, which corresponds to their strong filter. The big advantage is that they block out all blue light, but of course that goes hand in hand with the strong tinting of the lenses. The problem is that, unlike the Tron,Cover or Victor Bluecut 580 models, they do nothing to prevent light hitting the eyes from the side. If one invests in glasses that are supposed to block 100% of blue light, they should really block all blue light. Although it may not look like it, the light rays hitting the eyes from the sides significantly worsen the resulting effect.
Final assessment:
The combination of the high price and the half-baked design spoils the impression of an otherwise very good pair of glasses. The Greenhorn model has a very effective filter, but its effectiveness is largely spoiled by the fact that the blue light rays from the side can fall merrily farther on the eyes. This is why I would recommend one of the models at the top of our list when choosing blue light goggles.
Slowly but surely we are coming to the end. In our ranking, however, there is no way we could miss Slim glasses, of course from BrainMax. What caught our eye? They're designed to be worn throughout the day, which means a weaker blue light filter and better visibility at the same time.
Benefits:
- Suitable for all day work
- Stylish design
- Ideal for computer work
Disadvantages:
- Block only 15% of blue light
Many people spend most of their day on the computer, which understandably means they are exposed to a lot of blue light. That's exactly why the Slim model was created to be worn throughout the day. While the filter only blocks 15% of blue light, that's plenty enough during the day. Of course, the completely transparent lenses do not distort the surrounding colours at all. The glasses are also very lightweight, so you can forget about them when working during the day.
Final review:
If you're looking for a pair of glasses that you can wear all day long and at the same time don't promise yourself who knows what miraculous effects, you've found the right one. In the evening, of course, it's a good idea to swap the Slim model for a pair of glasses with a more effective blue light filter, but for daytime work, it's enough. However, I find the Dayworker glasses, which block 25% of blue light, slightly more beneficial. After all, they have a stronger filter, and when one uses such glasses, it is good to try to maximize their benefit. Whichever model you choose, you won't be disappointed.
Finally, here's a bonus for people wearing dioptric glasses. For them, choosing glasses against blue light is much more difficult. While there are dioptric glasses on the market with a blue light filter, this option is quite expensive. This is exactly why the Morpheus goggle clips from BrainMax were developed.
Advantages:
- A great solution for people with dioptric glasses
- Block 100% of blue light
- Easy to handle
Disadvantages:
- Switchable feet get a little stuck in the view
The same applies to clips that block 100% of blue light as for goggles with similar features. It's ideal to put them on about 2 hours before sleep to encourage natural melatonin release. The great advantage of the Morpheus clip is that they are very lightweight and easy to adjust. The only problem is that they slightly obstruct your vision, which can be quite annoying after a while. BrainMax also offers other variations of these clips with a weaker blue light filter. However, if you would like to use them all day during work, like the Dayworker or Slim glasses, it would be more worthwhile to invest in special dioptric glasses.
Final assessment:
The Morpheus clips are a great option for people with dioptric glasses who don't want to spend unnecessarily on special glasses. But it's true that the clips themselves cost the same as the most expensive blue light glasses in our ranking. In the end, though, one does save money. However, if you plan to use them all day, you should rather consider buying special glasses. For evening wear, however, they are absolutely ideal and their resulting effect on sleep quality is undeniable.
What is blue light?
We are exposed to blue light almost constantly. We encounter it mainly during the day, when the rays of blue light signal to our bodies that it is time to be active. The presence of blue light significantly affects our circadian rhythm. We can think of it as our "internal clock" that controls a huge number of processes in our body. One of them is sleep. And that's where the problem comes in. If we're exposed to blue light in the evening or at night, our brains don't start releasing melatonin, which signals the whole body that it's time to go to bed.
But how is it possible that we are exposed to blue light even after the sun goes down? It's the screens of our mobile phones, computers, TVs, tablets and who knows what else. These devices produce the blue light that keeps us awake. That's why our bodies can't sufficiently detect that night is coming and start preparing for it. The problem with digital devices is that they produce light that we don't encounter in nature. Its intensity is completely unnatural, and the same applies to the time of day at which we encounter it. The LED bulbs and displays of our digital devices have completely changed our rhythm of life. And this has a negative impact on sleep in particular.

How is blue light harmful to the eyes and the body?
It certainly can't be said that blue light is entirely bad. On the contrary. It is desirable to be exposed to it during the day, because it can energize us...promotes normal circadian rhythm function and has an overall beneficial effect on our health. However, this is only true if we are exposed to an adequate amount of it. Otherwise, it can have surprisingly enough negative effects on our body. According to studies, prolonged exposure to blue light can damage the retina in some way and cause oxidative stress to the eyes.
Negative impact on sleep quality
Sleep problems are nowadays quite normal. More and more people are experiencing them and the cause is blue light. I have outlined above the importance of the hormone melatonin. It is also popularly known as the sleep hormone, because the quality of our sleep is closely related to its release. But if it doesn't start flushing out, there will be problems. It's not just about the speed of falling asleep, but also the depth of sleep and our subsequent feeling of rest when we wake up. A fluctuating melatonin level will have a big impact on all this. If we are exposed to blue light for long hours after dark, the melatonin release is delayed and this completely disrupts our sleep rhythm. Even something as subtle as your smartphone screen lighting up can do surprisingly much damage
What are blue light blocking glasses?
Does this mean that we have to avoid all screens after dark and go straight to sleep? Fortunately, we can defend ourselves against blue light without having to take such radical and nowadays almost unimaginable steps. That's exactly why blue light-blocking glasses were created. Their lenses have a filter that blocks the blue light, allowing us to enjoy moreenjoy watching our favourite movie or TV show without any problems. The problem is that in order to prevent blue light from harming us, we have to erase it from our field of vision. That's why these glasses have heavily tinted lenses, through which everything is tinted red. The degree of this colouration is, of course, related to how strong a filter the glasses have.

How do anti-blue light glasses work?
The principle on which blue light blocking glasses work is quite simple. They have a filter that does not let light of a certain wavelength through. Based on what wavelengths the filter does not transmit, the glasses block a certain percentage of blue light. To maximize their effect, it is advisable for the glasses to also defend the eyes against light coming in from the sides. Therefore, it is advisable to choose glasses specially shaped so that they also block the area around the eyes. The downside of glasses against blue light is that they turn red in direct proportion to the strength of their filter.
How to choose glasses against blue light?
Glasses must first and foremost be comfortable and fit well on the face. Next, they must also be distinguished on the basis of whether they are dioptric or not. For many, it will be important to choose glasses with a stylish design, but this will not be a problem nowadays. But most important of all, of course, is their ability to block blue light. This is given as a percentage and can range from 10% to 100%. How does one know which glasses are best for them?
Up to 30% blocking
Glasses blocking 30% of blue light or less are particularly suitable for daytime work. They are primarily used to reduce the strain your eyes have to face if you frequently look at a computer screen. This is why they are especially popular with people working in offices who spend most of the day in front of a computer. The advantage of these glasses is that they don't distort colors, so they don't get in the way when working. On the other hand, they filter relatively little blue light. This makes them unsuitable for wearing in the evening, for example, when almost all blue light needs to be blocked to maintain optimal melatonin levels.
Blocking up to 45%
If you don't spend all day on the computer but want to give your eyes as much relief as possible, you might be interested in glasses that block up to 45% of blue light. While these don't restrict your work, they do show a noticeable red tint. For this reason, they are not ideal for all-day work, but if you spend time at your deskthe computer for short periods of time, especially in the afternoon, they can be of great benefit to you. They are often reached for by, for example, players of counting games, as they allow them to enjoy playing without being too busy. They can enjoy the game without the distraction of the red colouring, but at the same time relieve their eyes, which is particularly beneficial in the early evening.
Blocking up to 70%
A sort of compromise between maximum efficiency and keeping at least some to distinguish individual shades of colour, glasses that block 70% of blue light or less are the best option. Some people use them in the evening when they want to block out as much blue light as possiblefor a good night's sleep, but they don't mind seeing everything red when they watch TV. But there are also people who wear them when working on the computer in the later hours, if they don't need to distinguish colours in any major way at work. It should be noted that blocking 70% of blue light already has a noticeable effect on sleep quality, but if a person wants toIf a person really wants to achieve maximum results, they should choose an even more effective option.
Blocking up to 100%
For people who want to eliminate blue light from their field of vision for good, glasses with up to 100% blocking are the best choice. With these, you can fully immerse yourself in the world of red and orange, but at the same time you'll avoid blue light, which can disrupt your sleep rhythm. What will be the result? It will help you avoid problems falling asleep and improve the overall quality of your sleep. For best results, it is advisable to choose glasses that block light hitting your eyes from the side.
What do the glasses help with?
The negative effects of excessive blue light on our bodies are surprisingly numerous. Blue light causes a domino effect, where small problems gradually grow into very serious health complications. What can blue light blocking glasses protect against?
Digital eye fatigue
Everyone knows the feeling of staring at a computer monitor for long hours almost without a break. After a while, the eyes get tired and you have to look at them from time to time. It's not uncommon to have to blink to focus properly, and headaches are not uncommon either. We are exposed to digital screens so often that it seems like a natural state. Although we may feel that we have become accustomed to aggressive lighting, this is not the case. Given that computers are simply unavoidable nowadays, even if you try hard enough, it is definitely advisable to defend yourself against blue light. Even glasses with a protection of "only" 15% can help prevent these problems at least partially.
Better quality sleep
The most well-known and most important benefit of wearing blue light glasses is the promotion of sleep quality. We talked about why blue light is the enemy of falling asleep and deep sleep above. But can glasses really effectively prevent these problems? The answer is very clear. Yes. Especially if you wear glasses that block 100% of blue light. The results are almost immediate. Put your glasses on 2 hours before bedtime and you'll fall asleep much better that night. Over time, you'll get used to a good night's sleep and won't want to function without your glasses. It's not just when you fall asleep that you feel the improvement. Melatonin also affects how good your sleep is throughout the night. In addition to falling asleep earlier and staying asleep longer, your sleep will also be much deeper and more beneficial to your body. Quality sleep will in turn have a positive effect on the overall health of the body.
Our tip: Why is sleep important, what are its stages and how can we improve its quality? The answers to these questions can be found in our comprehensive article 21 proven tips to improve sleep.

Feeling dry eye
Working with a computer for a long time is one of the causes of the so-called dry eye syndrome. This is caused by burning and itchy eyes due to insufficient washing of the surface of the eye. This is due to a reduced ability to form a tear film, which protects the eyes from the external environment. Dry eye syndrome can therefore cause more serious vision problems in the future. Blue light glasses are an effective way to prevent these problems.
How to block blue light?
There are many ways to avoid blue light. It doesn't necessarily have to be glasses, although this option is highly effective. The simplest solution is to use the right bulbs. Nowadays, bright LED lights are very popular, but these emit a lot of blue light. In the late hours, it is better to light up with warm colours that have more of a red tint. It is best to limit the lighting as much as possible. Most smartphones allow their owners to adjust the spectrum of colours they emit. So in the evening, it's a good idea to set your phone to reduce the brightness of the screen and emit only warm colours. The same goes for computers and TVs, which are a major source of entertainment in the evenings.
A very effective way you can avoid blue light and get better quality sleep is by reading.Simply turn off the TV, open a book, shine the warm light on it and read in peace. It's amazing how much such a simple activity can help with falling asleep. Plus, you'll finally have the opportunity to read the books you never took the time to read. You may have to coax yourself a bit at first, but you'll see that after a while you'll get used to it and never want to see the blue light before bed again.
