Detailed comparison of night proteins

1. Prom-IN Pure Micellar

Prom-IN Pure Micellar

The rightful winner of our ranking of the best micellar caseins is Pure Micellar fromProm-IN, whose supplements regularly top our rankings.

Pure Micellar contains only 100% native milk-derived micellar casein enriched with an extra dose of free glutamine.

Highlights
Benefits:
  • Great formulation
  • Rich in anti-catabolic amino acids
  • Unbeatable price
  • Free of unwanted fillers and thickeners
  • Tuned flavors
Disadvantages:
  • Only 2 flavors available - vanilla and chocolate
Our impression of the product
Pure Micellar will please any protein lover with its thick and creamy consistency. Although I am in that group as well, I have to say that in this case, I even found the resulting consistency a little too thick. However, this can easily be solved by adding a little more water for mixing. Of the flavours available, we have to recommend the chocolate one the most, but the vanilla variant certainly doesn't offend either. However, you have to take into account the fact that there are some artificial sweeteners, whereas in the chocolate flavour we hardly noticed them. We must highlight the perfect solubility and zero foaminess, which you will definitely appreciate during daily use. You can read more about this product in our separate review on Prom-IN Pure Micellar.
Summary
Who makes it:

Lean Mass is manufactured by the seasoned Prom-IN company, which has been on the Czech market since 1976. Their products have undergone many reforms to suit all athletes and contain no unnecessary or ineffective substances.

In the sales you can get all the products of this company for really great prices.

Ingredients per serving (30g):
  • 22.6g of protein, which is released into the body gradually and prevents catabolism at night
  • 2g of glutamine, which will increase the level of growth hormone in the body and promote recovery
  • Sweeteners sucralose and neohesperidin, which are completely safe for health
Final assessment:

Pure Micellar is, in our opinion, the best micellar casein on the market. While more products in this category have quality ingredients, none can be found at such a good price.

A slight drawback for some may be the choice of only two flavors, but both are flavor balanced and you will definitely love them.

2. Extrifit Micelar Casein

Extrifit Micelar Casein

The second place in our ranking belongs to the great micellar casein from Extrifit.

It is sweetened with natural sweetener from the stevia plant and enriched with 7 digestive enzymes for perfect protein utilization.

Highlights
Benefits:
  • Great formulation
  • Minimal carbohydrates and fats
  • Contains digestive enzymes
  • Pleasant price
Disadvantages:
  • Flavors can seem quite artificial
Our impression of the product
Extrifit's Micellar Casein is rightfully one of the most popular micellar caseins on the market. In fact, it boasts a delicious vanilla flavor that tastes really good compared to the competition. You won't go wrong with the Cookies cream variant or the classic chocolate. It must be said, however, that the chocolate has a stronger taste of artificial sweeteners, so it doesn't feel as natural as vanilla. However, all flavours are very soluble and do not foam unnecessarily during preparation. The consistency is very thick, I would even say a little more than is common with other products. However, this makes it very filling, which is of course welcome.
Summary
Who makes it:

Extrifit has been on the market since 2007, and in that time it has become the leading sports nutrition manufacturer in the Czech Republic. All of the supplements offered are specifically tailored for all strength athletes and bodybuilders.

The company's vision is to produce supplements that will effectively support the growth of muscle mass and strength and effectively fight subcutaneous fat. All the supplements are tested by sponsored athletes - the absolute top of the sport - before they are launched. Vojtěch Koritenský, Tomáš Kašpar, Vlastimil Kužel and others.

Ingredients of one serving (30g):
  • 23g of protein, which is released into the body gradually and prevents catabolism at night.
  • Sweeteners sucralose and steviol glycosides, which are completely safe for health
  • 7 digestive enzymes (papain, amylase, bromelain, lactase, cellulase, protease, lipase) that support the digestion of proteins to the last vestige
Final assessment:

Micelar Casein by Extrifit is another high-quality overnight protein in our ranking. Its price is comparable to the winner of our ranking, and the ingredients are the same.

If you prefer more "artificial" flavors or want to indulge in a cookie flavor, choose Extrifit. If you prefer the natural taste of vanilla or chocolate, choose Prom-IN. But don't look for any big difference in these supplements.

3. Vilgain Micellar Casein

Vilgain Micellar Casein

Among the best overnight proteins on the market is also Micellar Casein Protein from Vilgain. It has a great formula, a thick creamy consistency that makes it superbly filling and, since only steviol glycosides were used to sweeten it, it is completely free of artificial flavours and sweeteners. Combined with a pleasant price, this is a product that should not be missed among the top on the market.

Highlights
Advantages:
  • Great composition
  • Creamy consistency
  • Saturates for a long time
  • No artificial flavours or sweeteners
Disadvantages:
  • Unlike Pure Micellar, it does not contain extra ingredients such as glutamine
  • For example, the strawberry flavour has only 70% protein content
Our impression of the product
Micellar Casein from Vilgain must, like the previous products, be praised for its trouble-free solubility. Again, we are dealing with a very thick and creamy protein, which is no surprise among micellar caseins. As for the flavours, we must praise especially the vanilla, but from the availableWe can also highly recommend strawberry and chocolate, which are definitely not to be missed. The unflavoured variant does not impress with its taste, of course, but it is particularly suitable for porridges, where its thick consistency makes it a great choice. All available flavours are very mild and not unnecessarily oversweetened, which you may be used to from all Vilgain products.
Summary
Who makes it:

The company behind this product is Vilgain, which is a manufacturer of a range of sports supplements, training equipment, and even clothing and cosmetics. You may have already come across products from this brand in our ranking of the bestwhey protein products or in separate reviews, such as the Vilgain Creatine Caps review.

Ingredients per serving (30 grams of chocolate flavour):
  • 22.1 grams of protein from micellar casein concentrate
  • 4% cocoa powder, natural flavouring, guar gum and steviol glycoside sweetener
Final assessment:

A great micellar casein that is available at a good price, plus in three flavours and unflavoured It comes in handy, for example, in situations where you want to drink micellar casein together with other dietary supplements. If you are looking for a product with a really good price-quality ratio, Micellar Casein Protein from Vilgain is a good choice. It's just good to keep in mind that the strawberry variant, for example, can have up to nearly 8g less protein per 100g of product than the unflavoured variant.

4. Reflex Nutrition Micellar Casein

Reflex Nutrition Micellar Casein

In fourth place in our ranking is Micellar Casein from Reflex Nutrition.

This overnight protein is made by ultrafiltration of milk protein, which removes all unwanted substances including lactose and fat.

Highlights
Benefits:
  • Premium ingredients
  • 4 great flavours
  • Minimum fat and sugar
Disadvantages:
  • High price
Our impression of the product
Reflex's Micellar Casein doesn't particularly stand out in terms of its properties from what we see in competing products. The typical thick and creamy consistency will be waiting for you in the shaker after mixing. We had no problem with the solubility of the protein, but it's true that we did notice a bit more foaminess than we did with other products. Of the flavours on offer, we can highly recommend both of them in terms of artisticIn terms of flavour, we did not notice much difference and they both taste very good. The thick consistency of the protein makes it very filling, so you shouldn't have any hunger problems during the evening or morning.
Summary
Who makes it:

Reflex Nutrition has been on the market since 1996, and from the very beginning they have built all of their supplements on quality first. All supplements undergo independent testing for banned substances and the actual protein content of each batch.

All of the company's manufacturing technologies and pharmaceutical facilities are of the highest standard and therefore can be it is no exaggeration to say that Reflex Nutrition is the absolute top among sports nutrition manufacturers.

Ingredients per serving (45g):
  • 35g of protein, which is released into the body gradually and prevents catabolism at night.
  • 90 million Lactospore probiotics that promote the absorption of protein from the product
Final assessment:

As most of you have become accustomed to, Reflex's supplements may be among the top of the line, but their price is greatly exorbitant.

Even though this micellar casein is of high quality and the flavours are perfectly balanced, it gets a small minus from us for the high price.

5. Nutrend Micellar Casein

Nutrend Micellar Casein

Micellar Casein is a premium overnight protein with a high calcium content essential for strong bones, healthy teeth and optimal pH levels in the body.

main points
Benefits:
  • 80% protein content
  • 7g of BCAAs in each serving
  • High calcium content
  • Good price
Disadvantages:
  • It is very dense
  • Flavors may seem artificial to some
Our impression of the product
Nutrend Micellar Casein is available in three flavours - vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. We can definitely recommend the first two, as they taste very good indeed for micellar casein proportions. There is no artificial aftertaste and they taste surprisingly natural. After tasting the strawberry variant, you can definitely detect some artificial aftertaste, but in theThe strawberry flavour is actually not a disaster, and this flavour will undoubtedly find its fans. As far as consistency is concerned, again you have to count on a very dense protein. We must praise the perfect solubility and the absence of any foaming.
Summary
Who makes it:

Nutrend is one of the largest Czech manufacturers of supplements and sports nutrition. It is also a proud sponsor of Czech Olympians - Martina Sáblíková, Jaromír Jágr and others.

Unlike most companies, it does not specialize only in bodybuilding and strength sports, but also in endurance sports. Just from the size and popularity of this company, it can be concluded that it produces supplements of first-class quality.

Ingredients per serving (45g):
  • 34g of protein, which is released into the body gradually and prevents catabolism at night.
  • 1049mg of calcium, which is essential for strong bones and healthy teeth
  • A complex of probiotics and prebiotics that support the digestion of every last bit of protein
Final assessment:

Nutrend's Micellar Casein is a very good choice that doesn't cost too much money.

A slight drawback may be the aforementioned protein density, although even that is something you can get used to and then you may quite possibly like the protein. The flavours are not downright artificial, but may seem so to some.

6. Extrifit Long 80 Multiprotein

Extrifit Long 80 Multiprotein

Long 80 is a great micellar casein with an improved composition, flavour matchedflavours and really good digestibility thanks to the seven active enzymes.

Steviol glycosides, which are extracted from the stevia plant, have been used for sweetening.

Highlights
Benefits:
  • 6 different flavours
  • Fine-tuned formulation
  • Contains natural sweetener
  • Good digestibility thanks to 7 enzymes
  • Pleasant price
Disadvantages:
  • Contains not only micellar casein but also other protein sources
Our impression of the product
It can be quite a challenge to fine-tune the taste of a protein that contains five protein sources, but Extrifit has done it very well in this case. Of the four flavours available, we have to praise the chocolate in particular, which has a pleasant cocoa smell and tastes very good overall. The banana and strawberry variant is also an interesting choice, which could be a bit more pronounced, but still tastes very nice. On the other hand, the vanilla flavour didn't really impress us and is the least recommended of all the available options. The solubility and consistency is similar to competing proteins, so there is definitely nothing to complain about. For more details, don't overlook our separate review on Extrifit Long 80 Multiprotein.
Summary
Who Makes It:

Extrifit has been one of the leading sports nutrition manufacturers in the Czech Republic since its inception in 2007. The company has been in business since the company was founded in 2007 and has focused on the requirements of strength athletes and bodybuilders in the creation of new supplements. is to produce supplements that will effectively support the growth of muscle mass and strength and effectively combat subcutaneous fat.

Under the wings of Extrifit is the absolute top of the sports industry in the Czech Republic - Vojtěch Koritenský, Tomáš Kašpar, Vlastimil Kužel and others.

Ingredients of one serving (30g):
  • 23g of protein, which is released into the body gradually and prevents catabolism at night
  • Sweeteners sucralose and steviol glycosides, which are completely safe for health
  • 7 digestive enzymes (papain, amylase, bromelain, lactase, cellulase, protease, lipase) that support the digestion of proteins to the last vestige
Final assessment:

Long 80 is a great micellar casein at a nice price. A minor drawback, in my opinion, is the complex content of 8 different proteins, including hydrolyzed isolate and others. While these protein sources are high quality, they are quickly digested and this is undesirable in micellar casein.

In addition, the manufacturer nowhere states the exact ratio of each protein source, so the exact content of micellar casein is unknown.

Final assessment:

100% Casein is a really good product at a reasonable price, but you have to put up with the choice of only two flavors - chocolate and vanilla.

A minor drawback in our opinion is the content of guar gum, carrageenan and cellulose gum, softeners that have no place in a quality product. But if you don't mind that, this overnight protein is a great choice for everyone.

What is micellar casein?

Micellar casein is a protein with a gradual release of amino acids, which are represented here in the form of micelles (protective shells). It is made from fresh skimmed milk, which is free of lactose and fat.

The great advantage of such supplements is above all their perfect usability and absorption.

Test and review of micellar caseins

We take great care in reviewing the best micellar caseins and try to create as objective a review for you as possible.comparison of the best products on the market so that you can be 100% sure that you will be satisfied with your chosen product.

We've tested the most used and popular overnight proteins for you, so that we can include only the really good and high quality ones in our ranking.

We focused on criteria that are important to every consumer:

  • Ingredients
  • price
  • taste
  • number of servings per packet,...

At the end of this process, there is a completely objective ranking that should help you make your decision. We don't have our own supplements to recommend, nor are we sponsored by any sports nutrition manufacturer, so we can afford to be completely objective.

What should the ideal composition of a nighttime protein look like?

The ideal nighttime protein should consist of micellar casein and only micellar casein, as it is the most effective and best absorbed. However, manufacturers often reach for the cheaper sodium caseinate (No.and calcium caseinate), which are cheaper but have only minimal utility.

Similarly, there should be no thickeners in a good quality product, as micellar caseins should be thick and creamy by themselves.

For whom is/is not the night protein suitable?

Night protein is a great choice for anyone who wants to avoid night hunger and minimize the risk of catabolism during sleep. It is especially appreciated by bodybuilders and other athletes:

Bodybuilders

If you're trying to gain muscle mass, it's not a good idea to subject your body to long periods without food. Thanks to micellar casein, however, your muscles will be supplied with protein throughout the night and no catabolism will occur.

Other Athletes

Other athletes will appreciate micellar casein mainly because of its effect on recovery. By keeping muscles supplied with nutrients throughout the night, they are better able to regenerate muscle tissue damaged by exertion.

Vegans

Unfortunately, micellar casein is not suitable for vegans as it is made from cow's milk. However, plant proteins can be a suitable alternative, which often have a long absorption time.

Isn't micellar casein harmful?

Micellar casein, like all other supplements offered on the European market, must meet strict EU criteria to be offered at all. This means that if it were harmful to health, no e-shop would be able to sell it freely.

Does it have any side effects?

As it is a protein made from milk, there are some risks associated with consuming it for people with lactose intolerance. If you suffer from this condition, we recommend avoiding casein protein.

If you are healthy, however, you are not at risk of any serious side effects even if you consume it regularly.

How and when to use micellar casein?

Micellar casein is particularly suitable for bedtime thanks to its gradually releasing composition. However, you can also use it during the day if you do not eat regularly.

The preparation is the same as for classic protein - just mix the recommended amount in 250ml of water or milk and drink.

Mix it with water or milk?

In essence, it's up to you what you mix the casein with. However, in our experience, we recommend using water, as milk contains lactose.and this is known to affect the amount of absorbable protein from protein supplements.

What is the taste of micellar casein?

Most of the micellar caseins we've tasted so far are creamy and tasty, as the milk itself is sweet. We recommend reaching for more classic and tried-and-true flavours like vanilla or chocolate, as these taste good 99% of the time.

What does pure micellar casein taste like?

Pure micellar casein has a slightly sweet taste and its consistency resembles curdled milk. However, since it doesn't taste very good, we recommend opting for the more flavoured versions.

Is cottage cheese or casein better?

Cottage cheese is a very common alternative to micellar casein. It is much cheaper, but the protein is much less easily absorbed.

If you want to save money, you can eat it before bed, but micellar casein is a much better choice.

So which night protein to choose?

From our own experience, we can definitely recommend the first 3 night proteins from our ranking:

If you don't like any of the caseins from our ranking, choose a product where micellar casein is the only protein source represented.

The right product shouldn't contain thickeners either, but these are not such a problem. Last but not least, consider the price. If a product seems too cheap, examine the ingredients more closely.

What should the ideal composition of a night protein look like?

Quality and purity are the basis of any reliable product. This means that the product you choose should contain only active ingredients and not unnecessary additives. Micellar casein should therefore contain primarily micellar casein itself, the main source of protein. When choosing a product, make sure that instead of micellar casein, it does not contain, for example, low-quality calcium caseinate or other substances with a similar name. Because they sound similar, their quality and the resulting effect are completely different and a product with calcium caseinate is a complete waste of money.

Similarly, fillers, thickeners and unnecessary artificial sweeteners or colours have no place in a good quality micellar casein. Of course, the product must contain some flavouring, but there is a big difference between naturaland controversial additives such as allura red or brilliant blue, which are found in some products. As a general rule, the simpler the composition, the better the product will usually be (of course, this is not absolutely true).

For whom is/is not the night protein suitable?

Micellar casein is suitable for all athletes regardless of your sport level, age, gender or anything else. What is crucial is the purpose for which you are using micellar casein. If you're looking for a protein to help you replenish protein after a workout, you better check out our ranking of the bests best whey proteins, as casein is not suitable for such purposes due to its slow absorption. However, if you're looking for a quality source of protein throughout the day, micellar casein may come in handy. In fact, you can enjoy it as a quick snack at any time of the day, as it will continuously supply your muscles thanks to the gradual release of protein.

Because of its continuous release, micellar casein is most suitable for for evening use to protect your muscles from catabolising throughout the night. This makes it suitable for anyone who is at risk of catabolisation. This may be, for example, people trying to lose excess fat. In this case, a person needs a high protein intake to protect the muscles in a state of caloric deficit. The continuous release of protein is very useful for such cases and micellar casein can therefore come in handy.

Is cottage cheese or casein better?

Cottage cheese is often cited as a better alternative to micellar casein as a source of protein at bedtime. To be able to clearly say which of these two options is preferablebetter, there are many factors that need to be taken into account that can change the final answer. Since this is a fairly complex topic, we have devoted a separate article to it, titled Is Micellar Casein, Cottage Cheese or Plain Protein Better at Night? In it, you will not only learn the pros and cons of both options, but also their comparison in terms of protein content or perhaps price.
