Detailed analysis of the best proteins for women

1. PROM-IN CFM Pure Performance

PROM-IN CFM Pure Performance

CFM Pure Performance by Prom-IN is the first in our ranking of the best proteins for women. What did it do to deserve its ranking? Its biggest advantage is the really high protein content in one serving - each scoop contains up to 30.4 grams of protein. Of course, it is produced using the extremely gentle CFM method, a wide choice of flavours and trouble-free solubility. Prom-IN CFM Pure Performance is simply a safe bet that won't let you down.

Benefits:

  • High protein content in every serving
  • Great value for money
  • No controversial additives
  • Excellent taste
  • Seamless solubility
  • Contains digestive enzymes and probiotic cultures

Disadvantages:

  • Contains 2.7g of fat per serving

About the Manufacturer:
Czech manufacturer of sports supplements Prom-IN is one of the absolute leaders in our country. It is no surprise that it is one of the most popular and proven brands among strength athletes. Prom-IN products are characterized above all by a great price-quality ratio, which shows that even for little money you can get a lot of music. The company's range includes basically everything - from proteins, to vitamins and minerals, to probiotics and pre-workouts. We've shared our experiences with Prom-IN products in our reviews of the excellent pre-workout Serious PRE or the multivitamin Vita Solution, for example.

In one dose (40 grams) you will find:

  • 30.4 grams of protein
  • 2 g of carbohydrates
  • 2.7 g of fat
  • 0.3 g of fibre
  • The enzymes lactase, bromelain and papain
  • Probiotic cultures of lactobacillus acidophilus, bifidobacterium longum and lactobacillus casei

When looking at the ingredients, it is probably the really high protein content that most impresses everyone. This is of course due to the high protein content of the whole product (76 %) and the high recommended dose. The carbohydrate content does not impress, but neither does it offend. The high fat content is the only thing we can criticize about the ingredients - 2.7 g per serving is really a lot. However, the presence of digestive enzymes and probiotic cultures deserves praise. Although their content in a protein will never be enough to match a standalone product (see our comparison of the best probiotics), but their positive impact on digestion certainly cannot be denied. For this reason, we also rate the ingredients as a whole very positively.

Final assessment:
As I wrote at the beginning, Prom-IN CFM Pure Performance is simply a safe bet. Prom-IN is a proven manufacturer that rarely introduces a product to the market that is a great success. CFM Pure Performance meets everything a quality whey protein should. The only thing that disappoints us a bit about its composition is the already mentioned higher fat content, but otherwise we must definitely praise the manufacturer in this respect. None of the other products in our rankings is higher in whiteprotein in one serving comes close to containing more than 30 g of protein in one serving. It is true that you have to pay a little more for similar quality, but we still rate the resulting price/quality ratio very positively and we can highly recommend CFM Pure Performance protein to everyone.

2. Scitec 100% Whey Protein Professional

Scitec 100% Whey Protein Professional

Following close behind the top ranked product in the rankings is Scitec 100% Whey Protein Professional. This combination of whey concentrate and isolate earned such a good ranking from us primarily due to its excellent nutritional values and great value for money. Scitec 100% Whey Protein Professional is also available in a total of 16 different flavours, so there is something for everyone.

Benefits:

  • Great value for money
  • Excellent solubility and excellent taste
  • Only 1.4 g of carbohydrates
  • 16 flavours available in total
  • Combination of whey concentrate and isolate
  • Seamless digestibility

Disadvantages:

  • Protein content per serving could be slightly higher

About the Manufacturer:
Scitec Nutrition has long been one of the top sports nutrition companies on the European market. It has earned a great reputation primarily due to its sophisticated proteins, which it sells in record quantities. For this reason, it tests its whey proteins extensively to ensure the highest possible quality of its products for the end customer. But of course, the company also offers other essential supplements such as BCAAs, pre-workouts, vitamins or minerals. You might have come across some of the products in our comparison of the best vitamin D or in our ranking of the best collagens, for example .

In one serving (30 grams) of banana flavor you will find:

  • 22 grams of protein
  • 1.4 g of carbohydrates
  • 2 g of fat
  • 100 mg of l-leucine
  • 210 mg l-glutamine
  • 990 mg taurine
  • 12 mg bromelain
  • 12 mg papain

A major advantage of the formulation is the relatively low carbohydrate and fat content. On the other hand, we would have welcomed a slightly higher protein content (especially considering that the protein contains isolate in addition to concentrate). The spectrum of amino acids contained and the presence of the digestive enzymes bromelain and papain should also be praised. Slightly disappointing is the content of unnecessary additives, which spoil the overall impression of the protein. For more detailed information on the ingredients, please see our separate review dedicated to Scitec 100% Whey Protein Professional.

Final review:
100% Whey Protein Professional from Scitec definitely deserves the praise that has been heaped on it from all sides. We do have a few minor reservations about it, but it's really nothing major. In addition, it comes out quite reasonably on a per-serving basis, which is always a definite plus. In conclusion, we have no choice but to highly recommend it to beginners andm newcomers, as well as more experienced athletes who care about quality.

3. Czech Virus Pure Elite CFM

Czech Virus Pure Elite CFM

Pure Elite CFM from Czech Virus also gets a very good rating from us. It is characterized primarily by its excellent composition and first-class quality of processing. It is a combination of whey concentrate and iolzate in a ratio of 9/1, which is not the same asIt is not a great miracle, but it contributes positively to the very good digestibility. This is also supported by the digestive enzymes and probiotic cultures present.

Benefits:

  • First-class processing
  • Low carbohydrate and fat content
  • Contains digestive enzymes and probiotic cultures
  • Excellent taste
  • Very good digestibility

Disadvantages:

  • Higher price

About the Manufacturer:
Czech Virus is one of the leading sellers of dietary supplements in the Czech Republic, known for the high quality of its products. In the offer of this manufacturer you will find all the important supplements that no strength athlete can do without. This is also the reason why the brand enjoys the support of many famous personalities. We have shared our experience with Czech Virus products with you, for example, in our review of Beast Virus pre-workout or Joint Max joint nutrition.

In one serving (30 grams) of vanilla flavour you will find:

  • 23.1 grams of protein
  • 1.71 g of carbohydrates
  • 1.8 g fat
  • 80 mg of LifeinU™ probiotics
  • 50 mg DigeZyme® digestive enzymes

The composition of Czech Virus Pure Elite CFM protein guarantees trouble-free digestibility. This is ensured by the digestive enzymes together with the contained probiotic cultures. But the combination of whey concentrate and isolate, thanks to which the protein is absorbed continuously, is also a great benefit. We must also praise the very good ratio of all three macronutrients. The 23.1 g of protein probably won't get anyone off their chair, but it's still a solid dose. We have written more detailed information about the composition and other features of the protein in our separate Pure Elite CFM review.

Final review:
The Czech Virus brand is very well known for the quality of its supplements, so it probably won't surprise anyone that it did very well in our comparison. Pure Elite CFM is a premium protein that, thanks to its ingredients, ranks among the best you can find on the market in this price range. While it is true that it is not among the cheapest protein in our comparison, the higher price is clearly compensated by the quality.

4. Reflex Instant Whey Pro

Reflex Instant Whey Pro

The next place was taken by Instant Whey Pro from Reflex. It contains up to 80% protein. It is again a combination of whey isolate and concentrate, but this time in favour of the purer isolate. What's more, it contains up to 2 billion probiotic cultures, which aid digestion and increase the overall quality of the product.

Benefits:

  • Excellent price
  • Minimal fats and carbohydrates
  • 80% protein content
  • Contains digestive enzymes and probiotic cultures
  • No controversial additives

Disadvantages:

  • Protein content per serving is not very high

About the Manufacturer:
Reflex has long held a position in the sports supplement market as a proven manufacturer of high quality products. Since its inception in 1996, the company has prided itself on the premium quality of all its products. It is therefore understandable that it invests a great deal of resources in researching independent quality tests. Customers will also appreciate the fact that the company only uses energy from renewable sources. You may have come across Reflex products in our review of the Nexgen PRO multivitamin or in our ranking of the best isolates.

In one serving (25 grams) of banana flavor you will find:

  • 20 grams of protein
  • 1.3 g of carbohydrates
  • <0.5 g fat
  • 0.8 g of fiber
  • 50 mg DigeZyme® digestive enzymes
  • 2 billion probiotic cultures (Bacillus Coagulans, Bifidobacterium Bifidum, Lactobacillus Acidophilus and Lactobacillus Rhamnosus)

At first glance, it's obvious that a single serving of Reflex Instant Whey Pro is suspiciously low in protein, even though it makes up a full 80% of the formula. This is due to the fact that the manufacturer lists only 25g of protein as one serving. Thanks to this, he manages to keep the price per serving very low, as well as in the result we find a minimum of carbohydrates and fats in one serving. However, there is a downside to this and that is the very low protein content. Personally, I would therefore recommend to increase the dosage a bit, because otherwise one will also miss the maximum effect that this product offers. We have prepared more detailed information about the composition in this case in a detailed separate review.

Final evaluation:
Reflex Instant Whey Pro is a high-quality protein that has really great nutritional values and contains beneficial added substances that have a very positive effect on digestion. The only problem I see is the dosage set, which is simply not ideal for the needs of strength athletes. Fortunately, there is no problem to throw a little extra protein into the shaker. The final price will be in a very acceptable range even in such a case. All in all, we have to rate this product very positively.

5. GymQueen Vegan Protein

GymQueen Vegan Protein

Vegan Protein by Gymqueen is the first of the "specially for women" proteins to make it into our ranking. And it's doing very well compared to the competition. Since it's a vegan protein, rice and peas serve as the protein source instead of whey. While these don't have as good an amino acid spectrum as the classic whey, we find the added BCAAs in the protein at least partially compensate for this problem.

Benefits:

  • High protein content
  • Suitable for vegans
  • Without artificial colours
  • Minimum carbohydrates
  • High quality processing

Disadvantages:

  • Rice and pea isolate is not as good a source of protein as whey

About the Manufacturer:
GymQueen is a German manufacturer of sports supplements aimed specifically at women. The company's repertoire consists primarily of products aimed at promoting weight loss, various low-carbohydrate flavorings, probiotics, fat burners and so on. Although some of the products of this brand maintain a fairly decent quality (see for exampleVegan Protein), one cannot help but feel that the brand itself relies primarily on marketing. The very focus on products that are created "specifically for women" is simply nonsense.

In one serving (30 grams) of the chocolate flavor you will find:

  • 23.7 grams of protein
  • 1.11 g of carbohydrates
  • 1.86 g of fat

The protein source in this vegan protein is pea and rice protein isolate. These are among the highest quality plant-based protein sources, although they still fall short compared to whey protein. The manufacturer decided to address this shortcoming by adding BCAAs. While this is commendable, given the law of limiting amino acids, it cannot be said to help anything. We must commend the absence of controversial additives and the low carbohydrate and fat content.

Final assessment:
Although even after a long and detailed examination of the ingredients we have not been able to unravel the mystery of what exactly this "protein for women" differs from other plant-based proteins in the same price range, there is no denying that it performs very well compared to the competition. Its biggest drawback is probably its slightly higher price, but that's not unusual for a quality plant protein. So if you are looking for a vegan protein with a reliable formula, Gymqueen Vegan Protein will not disappoint you.

6. Bulk Powders Pure Whey Protein

Bulk Powders Pure Whey Protein

Pure Whey Protein from Bulk Powders is a great choice for anyone looking for quality protein at an affordable price. In fact, on a per-serving basis, it comes out almost the best of all the products in our ranking. Even so, it still maintains very good nutritional values, so the resulting price/quality ratio is great.

Benefits:

  • Convenient price
  • Large number of flavours to choose from
  • High protein content
  • Manufactured using the high-quality CFM method
  • Great value for money

Disadvantages:

  • Some flavours contain quite a lot of carbohydrates

About the manufacturer:
Bulk Powders is a certified sports nutrition manufacturer from the UK. In this brand's repertoire you can find all the products that every strength athlete needs. Interestingly, the company prides itself on sustainability. That's why 90% of their packaging is made from renewable materials and 87% of their protein packs are suitable for home composting. You may have already come across Bulk Powders products in our comparison of the best peanut butters.

In one serving (30 grams) of the unflavored version you will find:

  • 24.2 grams of protein
  • 1.5 g of carbohydrates
  • 2 g fat

The composition of the protein largely depends on which flavour it is. This is where I personally see the biggest disadvantage of this product. While the nutritional values of the unflavored variant are truly commendable, for example, the nothe chocolate flavours contain up to 3.6g of carbohydrates per serving, which is a lot. It is therefore very difficult to evaluate the composition in any general way. On the positive side, however, we didn't come across any controversial additives in any of the flavors that should worry anyone. Even so, I would still recommend sticking to the unflavoured version with regard to nutritional values, or for a better taste, reach for the threeVanilla flavour, which, although it contains 2.7g of carbohydrates per scoop, is the second best option next to the unflavoured variant.

Final assessment:
Bulk Powders Pure Whey Protein has left us with mixed feelings, which is why we decided to place it roughly in the middle of our comparison as a compromise. The unflavoured variant does really well compared to the competition, but the same cannot be said for the flavoured variants. So, if you are in a training phase where it is crucial to keep a strict eye on your intake of carbohydrates, I recommend reaching for the unflavoured variant or choosing another protein instead.

7. Vilgain Whey Protein

Vilgain Whey Protein

In our ranking we must not miss Whey Protein from Vilgain. It is currently one of the most popular manufacturers of sports supplements in our country. The great advantage of this protein is especially its very affordable price, which is a crucial factor for many athletes when choosing sports supplements. In addition, Vilgain's whey protein also boasts a decent protein content and very good flavours.

Benefits:

  • Very good price
  • Proven manufacturer
  • Excellent flavours
  • No controversial additives
  • Quality ingredients

Disadvantages:

  • High carbohydrate and fat content

About the Manufacturer:
Not too long ago, you might have come across Vilgain products under the brand name Aktin. In fact, this is the company behind the Vilgain brand. The reason for the name change was to expand abroad, but otherwise the products of this manufacturer have not changed at all. Aktin as such perhaps does not even need to be introduced to anyone. Currently, it is one of the most popular manufacturers and sellers of sports nutrition in our country. We have already shared our experience with the products of this brand with you, for example, in the review of Vilgain Creatine Creapure® or in the comparison of the best protein bars.

In one serving (30 grams) you will find:

  • 22 grams of protein
  • 4.2 g of carbohydrates
  • 2.2 g of fat

2 g of Whey Protein, 2 g of protein, 2 g of protein, 2 g of protein, 2 g of protein, 2 g of protein, 2 g of protein, 2 g of protein, 2 g of protein, 2 g of protein. We don't find any added digestive enzymes, probiotic cultures or, in fact, any added substance that would enhance the product in any way. But this is not necessarily a big problem, as the price corresponds to it. Where I can already see the problem, however, is the high carbohydrate and fat content. Over 4g of carbs per serving is really a lot and easily the highest of all the products that made it into our comparison. For more detailed information on the ingredients and much more, check out the separate review on Vilgain Whey Protein.

Final review:
Vilgain Whey Protein is a great choice especially for athletes who are looking for a quality protein, but at the same time price is important for them. While the composition of this protein cannot compete with the best offered by some competitors manufacturers, but thanks to the low price, the resulting price/quality ratio is really good.

8. Amix Whey Pure Fusion Protein

Amix Whey Pure Fusion Protein

The Amix brand also offers high quality protein. Its Whey Pure Fusion Protein combines the best of whey concentrate and isolate in a 1:1 ratio. Thanks to this, each scoop contains up to 26.25 g of protein, which is a really good dose.

Benefits:

  • High protein content
  • Combination of whey isolate and concentrate
  • Choice of up to 15 flavours
  • High quality processing
  • Contains digestive enzymes

Disadvantages:

  • Higher carbohydrate content

About the Manufacturer:
Amix Nutrition is the flagship brand of the British company LargeLife Limited and has been in the sports nutrition market for quite a number of years. The combination of the latest technology, years of research and keeping up with current trends in the sports nutrition field helps the company to maintain the premium quality of all its products. From protein to joint nutrition to CBD oils, you can really find everything in the Amix Nutrition range. You may have already come across the brand's products in our review of Amix HydroPure Whey or our comparison of the best omega 3 fatty acids.

In one serving (35 grams) you will find:

  • 26.25 grams of protein
  • 2.7 g of carbohydrates
  • 1.65 g of fat
  • 52.5 g DigeZyme® digestive enzymes

The greatest benefit of Amix Whey Pure Fusion Protein is undoubtedly its high protein content. There are over 26 grams of protein per serving. However, it should be added that this is mainly due to the fact that one serving represents 35 grams of protein, which is more than most competitors. This is also the reason for the relatively high carbohydrate content in one serving. The presence of digestive enzymes to aid the digestibility of the protein is also worthy of praise. For sweetening purposes, the manufacturer decided to use sucralose and acesulfame K. Although there is some controversy surrounding the latter, it has not been demonstrated in small quantitiesno harmful effects have been shown and therefore there is no need to worry about its presence.

Final assessment:
If you are looking for a quality protein with the highest protein content, Amix Whey Pure Fusion Protein will definitely not disappoint you. Due to its higher carbohydrate content, it may not be the best choice for your diet, but it is still a very popular choice for a large group of strength athletes. The slightly higher price is understandable given the ingredients and we have to rate the resulting value for money positively.

9. Extrifit High Whey 80

Extrifit High Whey 80

The next place in our comparison was taken by High Whey 80 from Extrifit. It offers a combination of whey concentrate (85%) and isolate (15%) at a very reasonable price. It also has the advantage of a solid protein content per serving (23 g). The disadvantage, on the other hand, is the relatively high fat content, which exceeds all other products in the ranking.

Pros:

  • Combination of whey concentrate and isolate
  • Wide range of different flavours
  • Convenient price
  • 23 g of protein per serving

Disadvantages:

  • High fat and partially carbohydrate content

About the manufacturer:
The Extrifit brand is one of the stalwarts on the Czech market. Who hasn't come across the characteristic orange-coloured supplements? Extrifit makes its products to suit the biggest hard workers who have really high demands on their bodies. That's why you can rest assured that all Extrifit products are of the highest quality. You can read more about them, for example, in our review of the Agrezz pre-workout or in our ranking of the best l-carnitines.

In one serving (30 grams) of vanilla flavour you will find:

  • 23 grams of protein
  • 1.6 g of carbohydrates
  • 2.8 g of fat
  • Digestive enzymes papain and lactase

As I mentioned in the introduction, it pays to keep an eye on the fat and carbohydrate amounts in the Extrifit High Whey 80 nutritional chart. In the vanilla flavour we find this up to 2.8g of fat in each serving, which is really high compared to the competition. As far as carbohydrates are concerned, the manufacturer did not spare them in the Chocolate and Coconut flavour - we can find 2 grams of them in one serving. This may not be a major problem if you are not currently on a diet, but we would still prefer to see lower values in this regard. However, we must praise the quite pleasant 23 grams of protein and the presence of the digestive enzymes papain and pH-stable lactase.

Final assessment:
The somewhat high values of carbohydrates and fats may be essential for some, but for others they may not be such a problem. However, it is worth mentioning the very good price of this protein, as it is one of the cheapest proteins in our ranking. Nevertheless, it retains a very good quality. It is also worth mentioning the very good digestibility, which is quite crucial in terms of long-term use.

10. Ladylab Protein

Ladylab Protein

Ladylab Protein is another product aimed only at women. The whole brand prides itself on making supplements tailored to women. As for the protein itself, we are dealing with a classic whey concentrate containing about 76 g of whiteprotein per 100g of product (depending on the flavour), which is in line with most decent proteins in this price range.

Benefits:

  • 23 g of protein per serving
  • No controversial additives
  • Manufactured using the CFM method
  • Interesting flavours

Disadvantages:

  • High price
  • Only available in an impractical 300g pack

About the Manufacturer:
LadyLab is a Czech brand specializing in dietary supplements designed exclusively for women. It is worth adding, however, that apart from the pink-coloured packaging, these products are not significantly different from regular supplements "for men". The company's offer consists mainly of fat burners and other supplements supporting weight loss and weight control. In addition, it also offers vitamins, proteins, BCAA, collagen or aphrodisiacs. You may have come across Ladylab products in our comparison of the best sleep aid supplements.

In one serving (30 g) of the vanilla flavour you will find:

  • 23.1 g of protein
  • 1.8 g of carbohydrates
  • 2.5 g of fat

In the composition of Ladylab protein, it is again worth pointing out the fat and carbohydrate content, which is quite high compared to the competition. In the Snicerdoodle flavour, the carbohydrate content is even higher (2.3 g per serving). This is quite surprising for a brand that focuses heavily on weight loss and the promotion of various weight loss diets. Nutritionally, the strawberry flavour is the best, with the least amount of carbohydrates and fat. However, the protein content is very decent and the composition as a whole did not particularly impress us, but at the same time it is not a disaster.

Final assessment:
Without a doubt, the biggest negative of this protein is the high price. It is to some extent related to the fact that the protein is only available in one inconvenient 300 g package. It is not uncommon for larger packages of protein to work out much better on a per serving basis. In this case, however, the customer is forced to reach for a pack containing only 10 doses, so it is understandable that the resulting price per dose will also be quite high. Even so, the price of this protein is still quite high. Its composition does not stand out from what the competition offers, but the price is more in line with much higher quality alternatives.

Do women need a special protein?

Before we get into the individual benefits of protein as such, we need to answer the obvious question. Do women need their special protein? The answer is very simple: no. While it is true that women have a different metabolism compared to men, a different ratio of muscle mass to fat, a different ratio of hormones in the body and much more. However, this does not prevent them from using regular protein products (which are primarily targeted at men). So how is it possible that there are proteins on the market that their manufacturers claim are made specifically for women? It is just a tempting marketing that has no basis in the real needs of female athletes. This is certainly not to say that the female body needs to take in the same amount of all nutrients as the male body. It just doesn't need specially formulated protein to do so. The reason is quite logical. If regular protein is enough for men who need to take in more protein and other importantnutrients, why shouldn't it be enough for women who need all the nutrients in smaller quantities?

That's why we've included a significant amount of protein in our rankings, which did very well in our comparison of the best whey proteins. But in addition to these, you'll also find a few products aimed primarily at women. For these, we take a close look at how they differ from mainstream products and whether they outperform them in any way.

How much protein per day should women consume?

When it comes to the recommended levels of protein intake during the day, the following general guidelines apply to women The general rule of thumb is that they should take in about 0.3-0.5 g per kg of body weight less than men. As a rule of thumb, this will be 1.3-1.7 g/kg for an average regular training session perFor the purpose of shedding excess kilograms, firming muscles and sculpting them. For female athletes aiming for more significant muscle building, it will be more appropriate to take about 1.5-2.2 g/kg per day.

What are the benefits of whey protein?

It is certainly no coincidence that whey protein is the most widely used sports supplement. At the same time, for the vast majority of people, it is the first dietary supplement they come into contact with. Why is it that no one can get enough of this flavoured powder? Because whey protein is an extremely valuable source of high quality protein with an excellent spectrum of amino acids. What's more, it is very well and quickly digestible, which is absolutely crucial after strength training. Replenishing sufficient quality protein after exercise is essential for muscle growth. Moreover, whey protein allows athletes to take in larger amounts of protein relatively easily. In fact, it is much easier to indulge in a protein drink than to eat an entire extra serving of meat.

It should be noted that there are also proteins from other sources on the market. Vegetable proteins, which include peas, rice or soy as a source of protein, are very popular. Although these products work to some extent the same as whey protein, they are not as well used. You can read more about them in our article What protein to choose?

Don't overlook
You can read all about whey protein in our article Protein under the microscope, where we also discuss other benefits of whey protein.

Other sources of quality protein

Adequate protein intake is crucial for strength athletes. Whey (or other) protein is therefore a very valuable aid, but this does not mean that we should neglect other sources of protein. In fact, supplements alone will never be enough to get the results you want. You can take the best protein on the market, but if you don't also have a quality diet, your efforts will be wasted. So what foods are worth focusing on? The first one would be meat, of course. Although nowadays more and more people are trying to claim that meat is the best way to eat....but from the perspective of a strength athlete, meat is an extremely valuable food. It is logical that the substances needed for muscle building are found in the greatest quantities in muscle. The best choice with regard to the amino acid spectrum is primarily beef butt, sirloin and other types of beef, pork loin, chicken and, along with it, turkey.

In addition to meat, eggs (yolks and whites) and dairy products (cottage cheese, yoghurt, kefir, skyr, cheese) are also among the best sources of protein. Of the plant sources, it is worth mentioning legumes, cereals or soya. It should be added, however, that vegetable proteins either have a poor amino acid spectrum or contain so-called "soy". They are also either bad or contain antinutritional substances that impair their absorption and subsequent utilisation. It is for this reason that strength athletes should draw protein primarily from animal sources.

Will I have muscles after protein?

The fact that whey protein is an excellent aid for promoting muscle growthdoes not automatically mean that you can expect miracles from its use. This is a common mistake, especially among beginner athletes who expect to put on a few pounds of muscle in a few weeks with protein. Similar concerns are often found in women who are afraid of inadvertently gaining too much muscle because of protein. But such fears are of course completely unnecessary. Protein is not a steroid or some miracle product that will make you grow muscles without any effort. Unless you train your arms 3 times a week, you really don't have to worry about waking up one day with biceps like Rich Piana. Conversely, even for women who are primarily aiming to firm up certain parts of the and shedding excess pounds, protein can be very beneficial.

How protein affects weight loss

In addition to the positive effect on muscle building, sufficient protein intake also plays a big role in the weight loss process. There are several reasons for this. When protein intake increases, the intake of fats and carbohydrates is logically reduced at the expense of protein. For many people, this change already has a positive effect on their diet, which ultimately means fewer calories consumed. Protein also has a very good satiating effect. Simply put, a high-protein meal can keep you full for longerfor a longer period of time, so you won't feel the need to reach for another, usually less nutritionally suitable meal. This is linked to a lower appetite. So whatever your goals in the gym, high protein intake should be a priority for you. Whey protein will therefore find its place in the diet of both men targetingand women focused primarily on weight loss and body firming.

What to look out for when choosing a protein?

Speaking of proteins, it is also necessary to stop for a moment at what is appropriate to choose it. The first factor to consider is the protein content. This is, after all, the main reason why people take protein. In whey concentrates, the content is usually somewhere around 70%. This amount will then be higher for isolates or hydrolysates, but these are also considerably more expensive. You can find out more about whey protein breakdown in our article Protein under the microscope.

Furthermore, the content of other macronutrients (carbohydrates and fats) must be taken into account. In contrast, it is desirable to keep the amount of these as low as possible. You should not miss the presence of various controversial sweeteners and colouring agents (acesulfame K, SY yellow and others). On the other hand, the content of various probiotics to support digestion, vitamins or other beneficial substances is very welcome. It should be noted, however, that in the vast majority of cases their content is not staggering and no exaggerated health benefits can be attributed to them.

All of these factors are of course taken into account when compiling our ranking and are carefully considered. That's why you can be sure that we have only selected products that meet strict criteria and can really be relied upon.

When is protein worth taking?

If I get a protein, when should I take it? A trivial question at first glance, but the timing of protein intake is very important for strength athletes. Most important of all, protein should be taken after training. Otherwise, you can take it at any time. Whether it's breakfast, a snack, or even before bed. The important thing to remember is that protein should not replace a regular meal, as it is not a substitute for a regular meal. After all, humans need to take in other nutrients that you simply can't find in protein.

Is it possible to overdo it with protein?

Too much of everything is bad for you, and protein intake is no exception. Fortunately, there is no need to be overly concerned about anything in this regard. The most common problem associated with excessively high protein intake is digestive problems. As soon as you experience something like this and you feel that you are really overdoing it with protein, simply limit your intake and the problems should disappear.
