Detailed comparison of sleeping accessories

1. Extrifit Sleep!

Extrifit Sleep!

Our ranking is opened by a product with the apt name Sleep! from Extrifit. What did it do to deserve its ranking? It contains a combination of effective herbs and magnesium that works absolutely brilliantly. In addition, compared to competing products, it contains the active ingredients in a much higherwhich of course contributes to its final effect.

Benefits:

  • Contains magnesium bisglycinate
  • Up to 150 mg of valerian root extract
  • Very high quality composition

Disadvantages:

  • Slightly higher price

Who makes it:
Extrifit is one of the largest manufacturers of sports supplements in the Czech Republic. The name of this brand is very well known to every heavy iron lover. Extrifit prides itself on not being for everyone, but only for athletes who are no strangers to hard workouts and hard toil. IN ONE DOSE (2 CAPSULES) YOU WILL FIND:
  • 150 mg of valerian root extract
  • 125 mg of hop leaf extract
  • 125 mg of passion flower extract
  • 56.2 mg magnesium bisglycinate

Sleep! capsules are packed with active ingredients. Here we find proven herbs led by valerian, hops and passionflower. You can read more about the importance of these herbs in our article 21 proven tips to improve sleep. Magnesium plays a very important role in any product that promotes quality sleep. The ideal form is magnesium bisglycinate, which is very useful for the human body and helps the body to relax. However, the glycerine content is also beneficial because it helps to reduce body temperature and thus promote circulationThis helps to promote circadian rhythms, which help the body to prepare for sleep in the evening.

Final assessment:
Sleep! gets the best possible rating from us. It has a very high quality and, above all, effective formula, which is the most important thing. As far as the price is concerned, it is within acceptable limits and almost unrivalled in terms of value for money. Therefore, we can highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a reliable product that will help them with problematic falling asleep.

2. Sport Code SleepMag

Sport Code SleepMag

The Sleep Mag from Sport Code came next. Its composition consists of six active ingredients, which are contained here in a really rich amount. Similar to the product from Big Zone, Sleep Mag will last you a little over two months.

Benefits:

  • Bet on really effective ingredients
  • High L-glycine content
  • Magnesium in the form of bisglycinate

Disadvantages:

  • High price

Who makes it:
Czech company Sport Code was created to bring truly premium dietary supplements to the market. It works with many athletes of all kinds - it doesn't matter if you lift weights, play football or do combat sports. Sport Code was created by athletes for athletes. The company has products to promote sleep, exercise, recovery, among many others.

IN ONE SERVING (4.2 grams) YOU WILL FIND:
  • 1425 mg of L-glycine
  • 1425 mg of L-taurine
  • 24 mg magnesium bisglycinate
  • 120 mg valerian extract

At first glance, it is obvious that Sleep Mag is very rich in glycine. This is of course a good thing, because its effect on falling asleep is really noticeable. Somewhat unusual is the presence of L-taurine, which stimulates GABA receptors and promotes its secretion. Furthermore, we can also find inositol, which, in addition to promoting sleep, helps to suppress the symptoms of depression. Understandably, there's also a good dose of valerian.

Final assessment:
If we had to fault Sleep Mag for anything, it would be the high price. The price is a bit high compared to the products on the first places of this ranking. The price/quality ratio is not as good as the previous supplements. Despite this, Sleep Mag gets a very positive rating from us and a warm recommendation for anyone who has trouble falling asleep.

3. BrainMax Sleep Faster

BrainMax Sleep Faster

The next place was taken by Sleep Faster from BrainMax. This product has a very interesting composition, dominated mainly by a generous dose of glycine and inositol. However, many potential customers may be put off by its high price, which far exceeds competing products.

Advantages:

  • High glycine content
  • Also rich in inositol and L-theanine
  • Magnesium in chelated form

Disadvantages:

  • Exorbitant price

Who makes it:
The BrainMax brand was created as an effort to produce dietary supplements that are based on the latest scientific findings while providing the natural power of nature. As the name implies, BrainMax products focus primarily on improving brain function and increasing productivity.

IN ONE SERVING (16 grams) YOU WILL FIND:
  • 5000 mg of glycine
  • 5000 mg of inositol
  • 2000 mg magnesium taurate
  • 100 mg valerian root

The high content of glycine and inositol is not unusual. What may attract attention, however, is the presence of magnesium taurate. This is a compound that is all too often found in similar preparations. It is a chelate bond, so the magnesium present is very well absorbed. Unlike bisglycinate, however, it binds to L-taurine, which is also found in Sleep Mag, for example. Finally, we have valerian root extract, which perhaps needs no further comment.

Final assessment:
In terms of composition, Sleep Faster by BrainMax is doing very well. The problem is that its price exceeds all other products of this type. It is a quality supplement, but certainly not so much so that its price exceeds twice the price of other products. Unfortunately, this is something that is very hard to justify. However, it is the only blemish on the beauty of an otherwise very good product.

4. Vilgain Sleep Tea

Vilgain Sleep Tea

If you are not really into supplements and believe more in natural products based, we recommend trying the herbal sleep tea produced by Vilgain. This contains nothing but 6 herbs that some studies point to as having potential benefits for increased nervous tension. The onset may not be as quick and strong as some other supplements, but it is definitely worth a try.

Benefits:

  • It is a blend of herbs only
  • Great price
  • Excellent taste
  • Ingredients from proven locations

Disadvantages:

  • The effect may not be as strong

Who makes it:
The brand behind this product is Vilgain, which some of you may still remember under its original name, Actin. The supplement brand has undergone a name change due to expansion abroad and their repertoire currently includesIn addition to sports nutrition, you will also find, for example, a variety of interesting health foods. On our website you can read for example a review of Plant Protein Granola or take a look at our our ranking of the best multivitamins, where their product is also featured.

In one serving (1 tablespoon) you will find
  • Lemon Balm
  • Acacia
  • Valerian
  • Hops
  • Chamomile
  • Passionflower

When it comes to the composition of this tea, Vilgain, of course, relies only on the power of nature. While some competing supplements use, for example, extracts from some of the contents ofherbs, this blend contains whole herbs that are sourced from proven locations. In case you have trouble falling asleep, but don't want to reach straight for the strongersupplements that can often cause unpleasant morning fatigue, Sleep Tea can be a really great option.

Final review:
In terms of effect, of course, one cannot expect Sleep Tea to be comparable to the TOP products in this category. On the other hand, it contains only natural ingredients and unlike the strong products mentioned above, you probably won't wake up more tired than usual in the morning. Considering the fact that it literally costs a few crowns, we dare to say that this supplement is definitely worth a try for starters.

5. CBD olej Night 10% 10ml CBD STAR

CBD olej Night 10% 10ml CBD STAR

Next up, we have CBD Oil Night from CBD Star. Its composition is designed to promote relaxation of the body and subsequent induction of sleep as much as possible. In addition to full spectrum CBD oil, it also contains other cannabinoids to maximize its effect.

Benefits:

  • Contains full spectrum CBD
  • Premium quality
  • Also contains vitamins A, C and E

Disadvantages:

  • Very high price
  • Effect may vary for everyone

Who makes it:
CBD Star is a Czech company that decided in 2017 to bring really high quality CBD products to the Czech market, which at the time was experiencing a big boom in the US. The company grows its hemp in Croatia without the help of chemical fertilizers or pesticides. CBD is then extracted from the plants using supercritical CO2 extraction, which is one of the most efficient ways to separate cannabinoids from hemp.

IN ONE SERVING (about 30mg of oil) YOU WILL FIND:
  • Full spectrum CBD hemp oil

The manufacturer is quite brief when describing the contents of the package. In each bottle you will find 10ml of pure CBD oil. What specific substances are in it and in what quantities is a bit of a mystery. So we have to make do with the fact that, according to the manufacturer, its oil is rich in vitamins A, C and E, essencesessential fatty acids, amino acids and, above all, a whole host of other cannabinoids.

Final assessment:
The quality of CBD Star oils is evident from their very good ranking in our CBD oil comparison. When we recommend dietary supplements, we often warn that they may affect everyone a little differently. This is doubly true in this case. Personally, I can say that for post-workout relaxation, you'd be hard pressed to find a more effective product. However, it's possible that some individuals simply won't be suited. For most people, however, it will undoubtedly help with inducing the ideal muscle relaxation that is crucial before sleep. In terms of price, Night oil is by far the most expensive product in our comparison. However, if we take into account the prices of competing products of similar quality, we can't be angry with the manufacturer when setting the price.

6. Prom-IN – Magnesium Chelate

 Prom-IN – Magnesium Chelate

Next up is 100% Magnesium Bisglycinate from Prom-IN. This is pure magnesium bisglycinate that will last you up to 80 days. Thanks to its high magnesium content, one dose of this product can really relax you in a good way, making it easier to fall asleep afterwards.

Benefits:

  • The best form of magnesium
  • Convenient price
  • Great effect

Disadvantages:

  • Unpleasant taste

Who makes it:
The Prom-IN brand is one of the stalwarts of the Czech sports supplement market. The products of this manufacturer are famous for their high quality and great price/performance ratio. The company's repertoire is very wide, you can find everything from proteins to joint nutrition and probiotics. Thanks to its uncompromising quality, Prom-IN has enjoyed great popularity among customers for many years.

In ONE SERVING (5.2 grams of powder) you will find:
  • 3200 mg magnesium bisglycinate

In this case, Prom-IN has relied only on pure magnesium in the form of bisglycinate. As we already know, this is the best form of magnesium when it comes to sleep-promoting supplements. Such a dose of magnesium in combination with glycine works really well. It perfectly relaxes you and tunes you up for sleep. To maximize the effects of magnesium, the manufacturer recommends combining it with zinc, which we can also highly recommend.

Final review:
The benefit of 100% Magnesium Bisglycinate is that, in addition to promoting sleep, it really relaxes you well in the first place. This is extremely beneficial especially after a hard workout. In addition, it helps prevent cramps, which is another big plus. The only downside is the really unpleasant taste. You definitely won't be drinking this supplement just for the fun of it. However, it's definitely not something you can't stand, which is why we can highly recommend Prom-IN's magnesium.

7. GreenFood L-Tryptophan + Vitamín B6

GreenFood L-Tryptophan + Vitamín B6

The next place was taken by L-Tryptophan + Vitamin B6 from GreenFood. Among its greatest benefits are its high quality composition and especially itslow price, which makes it a truly affordable supplement for virtually everyone. In addition to promoting sleep, it also aids in overall relaxation, so it is a great helper in the fight against anxiety and stress.

Benefits:

  • Great price
  • Effective formula
  • Allergen-free and also suitable for vegans

Disadvantages:

  • Tryptophan content could be higher

About the manufacturer:
A family-owned Czech company operating in the sports nutrition market for over 25 years. The company has been in the sport sport nutrition business for over a hundred years. Among the company's main priorities is the production of quality products using premium ingredients. That's why you won't find preservatives, chemical dyes, stabilizers or added sugar in GreenFood products. All products are also suitable for allergy sufferers and vegetarians. You may have already come across GreenFood products in our comparison of the best probiotics or in our ranking of the best digestive enzymes.

In one dose (2 capsules) you will find:

  • 600 mg of L-tryptophan
  • 200 mg of valerian
  • 1.4 mg of vitamin B6

The essential amino acid tryptophan forms the basis of the entire supplement. It plays a crucial role in the processes of vitamin B3, serotonin and melatonin formation. It is often used to improve mood, to alleviate symptoms of depression and, of course, to promote sleep. For the best effect on sleep, it is recommended to take about 1000 mg per day, which in this case wouldIn this case, this would be equivalent to about three capsules, although the manufacturer recommends taking only two. The effect of tryptophan is enhanced by vitamin B6, which is also present. We must not forget valerian, which is rightly one of the most popular herbs used to promote sleep.

Final assessment:
L-Tryptophan + Vitamin B6 by GreenFood has a relatively simple, but at the same time extremely effective formula. Its biggest advantage is still the price, which is really low compared to the competition. Thanks to this, even a possible increase in the dose does not represent any because the resulting price will still be more than bearable. As a result, we really have nothing to criticize and we have to highly recommend the product to anyone who is looking for a truly quality sleep aid supplement at an affordable price.

8. Now Foods GABA

Now Foods GABA

The next place went to the Now Foods GABA supplement, which earns a positive review from us mainly due to its low price and the very effective substance in its formula. Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the most important inhibitory neurotransmitter in the bodywhich means that it reduces the activity of nerve cells and thus induces a state of calm and relaxation.

Benefits:

  • Affordable price
  • Very effective active ingredient
  • Easy to use

Disadvantages:

  • Would have appreciated a slightly more complex formulation

About the Manufacturer:
Now Foods' roots date back to 1968. Since then, the company has strived to use its products to pass on the values associated with a healthy lifestyle. The company's emphasis on premium quality is understandably a top priority. In addition to dietary supplements, the brand also produces beauty products, health foods and pet food. You may have come across Now Foods products in our ranking of the best probiotics or our comparison of the best vitamin E supplements.

In one serving (2 capsules) you will find:

  • 1000 mg GABA
  • 4 mg of vitamin B6

As mentioned in the introduction, GABA acts as an inhibitory neurotransmitter, which makes it making it a great aid in inducing ideal sleep conditions. In addition, it also helps to combat stress and anxiety, as it makes it easier to relax and unwind. At the same time, the ability of GABA to lower blood pressure is emphasised, but this aspect has not yet been very well scientifically investigated. In terms of dosage, the manufacturer recommends taking two capsules a day, which together contain 1000 mg of GABA. It should be noted that there is no universally recommended daily dose of this substance, so I would recommendI would recommend starting with only one capsule and then, depending on the body's response, starting with two doses over time. However, it is not recommended to exceed the recommended dosage.

Final assessment:
GABA from Now Foods is a very likeable product that definitely has a lot to offer. Its big advantage is, of course, the low price, but that certainly does not mean that it is a poor quality product. In addition, it is also suitable for vegans, which is undoubtedly another big plus. In addition to the 200-capsule pack, there is also a smaller version available, however, due to the better price/quantity ratio, we recommend this size.

9. Jigsaw Health MagSoothe

Jigsaw Health MagSoothe

Jigsaw Health MagSootheTM has also earned its place in our ranking. This is a high quality magnesium in the patented chelated form of MetaMag®, manufactured by Albion Minerals. Quality magnesium is one of the best products for promoting quality sleep, and this product is no exception. The only drawback is the rather high price, which can be a problem for many people.

Benefits:

  • High quality form of magnesium
  • Magnesium is one of the most deficient minerals in the human body
  • Excellent effect

Disadvantages:

  • Very high price

Who makes it:
Jigsaw Health is an American brand of dietary supplements focusing primarily on products that support the health and smooth functioning of the body. However, it mostly focuses on supplements containing magnesium. Since the company's history dates back to 2005, it has a lot of experience in this field, which is reflected in the quality of the products Jigsaw Health produces. You may have come across them in our comparison of the best magnesium products, for example .

In one serving (5.5 grams) you will find:

  • 200 mg of magnesium in the form of bisglycinate
  • 130 mg of sodium in the form of sodium bicarbonate
  • 180 mg of potassium in the form of potassium bicarbonate

The effect of good quality magnesium on sleep quality can in no way be underestimated. MagSootheTM contains a patented chelated form of magnesium called MetaMag®, which is definitely one of the best you can get on the market. Each dose contains 200 mg of this active ingredient, which in our opinion is quite sufficient. Potassium also has a beneficial effect on the quality of sleep, which the manufacturer has not spared in this case. However, the bicarbonate form is not the most suitable and to maximize the effects of potassium we would welcome, for example, the citrate form. Sodium does not affect the quality of sleep, however, it is in the composition because it is supposed to improve the absorption of magnesium.

Final assessment:
Jigsaw Health MagSootheTM is a very high quality magnesium supplement that undoubtedly has a positive effect on falling asleep and sleep quality. However, its huge disadvantage is its very high price. The high cost of magnesium is very high, but the high price is very expensive, compared to other magnesium supplements in our list of the best magnesium supplements....it comes at a much higher price, even though some of them can match it in quality. However, if the high price of supplements is not a problem for you and you don't mind paying extra for them, MagSootheTM is a very good choice.

10. CBD Pharma 10% olej

CBD Pharma 10% olej

Another representative of CBD oils in our ranking of the best sleep supplements is 10% CBD oil from CBD Pharma. This is a happy medium in terms of the CBD contained in the oil. Apart from this variant, the manufacturer also offers oil with 5%, 15% and 20% CBD content.

Benefits:

  • Helps with relaxation and relaxation
  • Positive effect on regeneration and stress reduction
  • High quality CBD

Disadvantages:

  • High price

Who makes it:
The CBD Pharma brand was created to offer an alternative to conventional drugs. It combines the natural power of CBD with the latest findings from the medical field and as a result offers high quality CBD oils. CBD Pharma carefully oversees the entire process from cultivation to the finalto ensure the highest quality for its customers.

IN ONE DOSE YOU WILL FIND:
  • Cold-pressed hemp oil
  • CBD isolate

Talking at length about the composition of CBD oils is completely unnecessary. Each drop contains pure hemp oil with a high CBD content. In this case, it is enriched with CBD isolate to give it the best possible effect. However, it's not easy to find out what individual substances the oil contains.

Final assessment:
The downside of CBD is that while one person will feel the absolutely wonderful effects after taking it, the other won't even know that they have used it. Overall though, we have to admit that CBD Pharma stands out strongly in the rather crowded CBD market today. In terms of price/quality ratio, it is one of the best products in our country. Compared to the aforementioned CBD Star oil, CBD Pharma is almost a third cheaper.

11. Czech Virus Melatonin

Czech Virus Melatonin

Next in line we have Melatonin from Czech Virus. Melatonin isn't called the sleep hormone for nothing. It transmits information to the brain that it's time to go to sleep. It is a very popular supplement, but many people misunderstand the function of melatonin and expect it to provide miraculous sleep on the spot. However, the reality is a little different.

Benefits:

  • Pure melatonin
  • High content of the active ingredient
  • Perfect price

Disadvantages:

  • Limited use

Who makes it:
Czech Virus is a very well-known name on the Czech market. It also works with a number of well-known athletes and its products are known for their quality. The impetus for establishing the company was the poor quality of available supplements. Therefore, the founders decided to take matters into their own hands and start their own brand of supplements. Today, Czech Virus is one of the largest manufacturers in the fitness industry.

IN ONE SERVING (1 tablet) YOU WILL FIND:
  • 2 mg of melatonin

Melatonin from Czech Virus doesn't really contain anything extra. While the purity of the ingredients is a big plus, sometimes you could use a little extra. In the case of melatonin, this is doubly true. Its role in the body is not to put the body to sleep. It merely acts as a messenger, letting the central nervous system know that it's dark outside and time to go to sleep. That's where its role ends. So you can't expect it to magically put you to sleep. Its role is particularly important if you have irregular sleep rhythms or travel to other time zones. In this case, melatonin supplementation is in order, as it will help you to get your sleep rhythm back together.

Final assessment:
People often have the misconception that melatonin works as a miracle cure for insomnia. Unfortunately, this is far from the case. There are situations where increased melatonin intake is extremely beneficial. If you have trouble falling asleep, melatonin supplementation may be a partial solution. However, you will benefit much more from it in the situations mentioned in the previous paragraph. But lest it look like we're just criticizing, we have to admit that of all the supplements on the market, melatonin from Czech Virus is one of the best. We can therefore highly recommend it if your problems require just an increased dose of the sleep hormone. However, for people suffering from problems falling asleep, products with a more complex composition will be more beneficial.

12. Brain Gains Switch Off Black Edition

Brain Gains Switch Off Black Edition

Switch Off Black Edition by Brain Gains is a product with an extremely interesting composition. It is an improved variant of Switch Off Original. You will find in it ZMA, aswagandha, mushroom powder from coral hedgehog, lemon balm and much more. However, it probably won't surprise anyone that with a similar formula also comes a significantly higher price than many competing products.

Benefits:

  • Rich and complex composition
  • Contains many natural extracts
  • Two great flavours to choose from

Disadvantages:

  • High price

About the Manufacturer:
British company Brain Gains is a newcomer to the market. As the company's name suggests, it focuses on making products that support brain activity, efficiency, sleep and the like. In addition to Switch Off Black Edition and Switch Off Original, it also has in its repertoire the very popular nootropics that you may have already come across in our ranking of the best nootropics.

In one dose (5 grams) you will find:

  • 10 mg of vitamin B6
  • 30 mg of zinc
  • 500 mg of magnesium
  • 800 mg ashwagandha
  • 600 mg of coralline ashwagandha
  • 400 mg magnolia officinalis
  • 300 mg 5-HTP
  • 300 mg lemon balm
  • 300 mg bacopa monnieri
  • 250 mg phosphatidylserine
  • 200 mg l-theanine

From the first glance at the ingredients, it's clear that Switch Off Black Edition contains a really great of active ingredients involved in promoting quality sleep. We find a large number of quality nootropics, some of which we have already mentionedmentioned in our article on the best smart drugs, where you can learn more about their effects. Besides the content of the active ingredients themselves, it is necessary to mention especially their increased effect when they interact with each other. The complexity of the composition and its diversity is the reason why Switch Off Black Edition earns such a positive rating from us in this respect. The manufacturer recommends taking a dose of 5 grams 30 minutes before sleep. For this reason, a recommendation to use a smaller amount of water is offered, as the manufacturer's recommended 300 ml could make the bedtime half(For more on the effects of drinking before bed, see our article 21 proven tips to improve sleep).

Final assessment:
As hinted at in the introduction, the biggest drawback of this product is, of course, the high price, which is also the reason why it didn't rank higher in our comparison. If you don't mind the high price, we can of course highly recommend the Switch Off Black Edition. However, there are many cheaper variants that offer at least comparable performance at a much more affordable price.

13. Ladylab Sweet Sleep

Ladylab Sweet Sleep

Sweet Sleep by LadyLab was the next best. In the sports supplement market, the name of this brand is somewhat unusual. This is due to the fact that LadyLab focuses on products designed exclusively for women. However, their composition is not different from other supplements on the market and of course it is just a marketing ploy. Sweet Sleep can therefore be used with complete peace of mind by even the most hardcore guy, as long as he doesn't mind the pink-coloured packaging.

Advantages:

  • Contains the most important sleep-promoting herbs
  • Great value for money
  • Pack lasts for 2 months

Disadvantages:

  • Contains relatively few active ingredients
  • Men will probably choose a different product after all

Who makes it:
LadyLab is a Czech brand specializing in dietary supplements designed exclusively for women. The company's offer consists mainly of fat burners and other supplements that support weight loss and weight control. In addition, it also offers vitamins, proteins, BCAA, collagen and aphrodisiacs.

IN ONE DOSE (1 CAPSULE) YOU WILL FIND:
  • 125 mg of valerian
  • 90 mg of lemon balm
  • 75 mg of passionflower
  • 30 mg of hops

A formula based on proven herbs is, of course, a safe bet. The natural composition, which is free of unnecessary artificial substances, is particularly appreciated. On the other hand, we would appreciate the presence of some additional substances (glycine, magnesium and others) that could enhance the effect of the product. It is not a groundbreaking product, but we cannot say that the composition of Sweet Sleep is not of high quality.

Final assessment:
Sweet Sleep, like all other LadyLab products, catches the eye at first glance mainly because of its distinctive packaging and the fact that it targets only women. Upon closer inspection, however, one realizes that other than the pink packaging, there is really nothing different from other products on the market. As far as the ingredients are concerned, Sweet Sleep is a very good combination of quality herbs, which are, in short, proven classics. Price-wise, it is a pretty affordable product. The resulting price/quality ratio is therefore very good indeed. The male part of the customer base, however, will probably prefer a different product. There is no problem with the composition, but the garish pink packaging will probably not appeal to everyone.

14. MusclePharm Z-PM

MusclePharm Z-PM

Our ranking of the best sleeping supplements is rounded off by Z-Pm from MusclePharm. Its strongest point is its low price, for which it offers a fairly solid formula, but which has a few shortcomings.

Pros:

  • Super price
  • Contains vitamin B6 and a large dose of melatonin

Disadvantages:

  • Poor form of magnesium and zinc

Who makes it:
MusclePharm is an American sports supplement brand that has made it their goal to bringed to bring the highest quality supplements to the market based on the most advanced manufacturing methods. The company's owners are guided by the motto that every every single product must be of such quality that they themselves want to use it every day.

IN ONE DOSE (1 CAPSULE) YOU WILL FIND:
  • 113 mg magnesium aspartate
  • 3 mg of melatonin
  • 3 mg of vitamin B6

We could go on and on about the importance of magnesium. Its presence in sleep-promoting supplements is always a big plus. However, there are exceptions to every rule, and this case is no different. Magnesium in the form of aspartate is certainly nothing to brag about, even some studies talk about a negative effect.

Final assessment:
Given that there is more and more emphasis nowadays on the fact that the compositionZ-Pm from MusclePharm is a bit of an unfortunate exception. If we disregarded the aspartame content, it would actually be a pretty good supplement that would definitely find a lot of fans. But we have to take it into account. That's why Z-Pm is at the bottom of our list. Its formula does work, but there are plenty of better options out there.

What is a sleep rhythm?

Our body likes a regular rhythm very much. It doesn't matter if it's eating, excreting or even sleeping. Certain processes in our body, in short, require the repetition of certain activities in an established rhythm. Sleep rhythms are influenced by a large number of factors, some of which we may not even be aware of. Our lives constantly revolve around our circadian rhythm. The human body can measure time incredibly accurately and our "internal clock" influences how tired we are, what our basal body temperature is, how much we're able to commit to challenging tasks, and so on.This rhythm, however, has no regard whatsoever for what time we went to bed and what time our alarm clock will ring. It is ingrained deep in our bodies and is very difficult to change. Even if you succeeded, the changes achieved would be minimal.

For this reason, someone is easily able to get up before 6am, while someone has trouble getting out of bed before noon. Of course, this can also be influenced by what time we went to bed, but each of us is by nature more of a lark or an owl. This fact is especially important to realize that going to bed late at night and staying up until the afternoon may not seem like a serious problem, butif one completely ignores one's circadian rhythm, one is willingly depriving oneself of quality sleep. The body may be able to stay asleep due to extreme fatigue, but if the time of sleep does not coincide with the circadian rhythm, this sleep is not of sufficient quality.

What are the stages of sleep? And how to achieve deeper and better quality sleep? Find out the answers to these questions and much more in our article on proven sleep tips. You can access it via the banner below.

How long should sleep be?

Sleep duration is a topic that doesn't get nearly as much attention as it deserves. In fact, a large number of people sleep far less than their bodies need. In the evenings, screens of mobile phones, computers and televisions keep us awake much longer than ever before. But we have to get up as early in the morning as our ancestors who had no such conveniences. In winter, even much earlier. Sleeping for at least 8 hours is simply not an option for a large number of people. But that's wrong. If a person sleeps less than the recommended 8 hours over a long period of time, it starts to have a negative effect on almost every aspect of their life. The problem, however, is that people suffering from sleep deprivation don't even realize that they are suffering from it. They consider the current condition to be normal and therefore often don't even think to address the problem.

The big trend nowadays is to neglect sleep during the week and then make up for it at the weekend. Unfortunately, the reality is that lost sleep can never be made up. Sleeping late on the weekend does help break down the adenosine build-up that causes but you can't get rid of the negative effects of sleep deprivation. What are the negatives? Reduced productivity, impaired mood, easier weight gain, impaired memorymemory, and countless other negative effects on both brain function and health in general.

How to optimize sleep?

When a person finds that he has sleep problems, how can he get rid of them? There are countless ways. Perhaps the most effective is to limit blue light before bed. Digital device screens and LED lights are the source. We encounter natural blue light during the day. For the body, it's a sign that it's time to be active, seek out food, and defend against potential threats. When it starts to get dark, the amount of blue light starts to decrease. When it reaches a certain threshold, melatonin in our brain starts to be released. It gives a clear signal to the whole body - it's almost dark, it's time to go to sleep. At that moment, a series of processes are triggered that end with the person lying down in bed and falling asleep. But this scenario is very utopian. In real life, it does get dark, but we turn on the light bulbs and turn on the TV or the computer. And that's when melatonin secretion is disrupted.

This problem can be solved very effectively. Try turning off all screens at least an hour before bedtime and reading something instead of watching a TV show. In addition to avoiding blue light, you will also tire your eyes very effectively and subsequently fall asleep without any problems. If this option is unrealistic for you, try blue light filtering glasses, for example. In addition to blue light problems, many other factors prevent people from sleeping peacefully. These can include poor room temperature, irregular sleep patterns, poor diet in the eveningin the evening, excessive caffeine consumption, a bad mattress or sleeping too much during the day, for example. Whatever the cause, you cannot eliminate it without identifying it. That's why I must refer you again to our comprehensive article on how to improve sleep.

What sleep supplements to use?

Products aimed at improving sleep quality often have very diverse formulations. Which substances are really effective? A proven helper with falling asleep is magnesium in the form of bisglycinate. The combination of glycine and magnesium works perfectly well. It helps to relax the body, induce conditions ideal for falling asleep and promote subsequent sleep. In addition, it effectively helps with muscle recovery, which you will appreciate especially after a hard workout. Another substance often encountered in the composition of various supplements is melatonin. We have already written quite a lot about the function of melatonin, so its role in the body should be clear. It pays to supplement melatonin in specific situations where it can help a lot with falling asleep. But in other cases it is not so effective.

CBD is a very popular sleep-enhancing supplement. We took a detailed look at it in our article CBD: Is it really a miracle in sports nutrition? What does the science say?, in which you will learn everything you need to know about this substance. In the fight against insomnia, valerian is a very effective helper. This herb has a proven positive effect on promoting sleep, preventing the reduction of GABA levels, which which also has a positive effect on sleep quality, while helping to relax the whole body.

Sleep-promoting herbs are truly countless. The problem is that none of them are magical, as their manufacturers often try to claim. The key to everything is mastering regular habits and so-called sleep hygiene. This includes, in particular, the advice in our article on sleep, to which I have already referred several times. If you adopt just a few of these, it will undoubtedly have a beneficial effect on your sleep rhythm.
